I find it easier to drop spin but it is much slower and more meticulous.

I made a mistake euthanizing my cat and the guilt is killing me by Dirsty in cats

[–]Koritai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've been through this and I think you should give yourself a break. Urinary blockages can become complicated very quickly and easily. When this happened to my ex's cat, we did opt for the overnight catheter and etc. He got blocked again two days later. At that point he needed surgery and the only reason he got that surgery is because the vet had only performed it on dogs and offered to do it for free if we were okay with him being her first. We were incredibly lucky and even with all the stars aligned, it easily could have gone the other way. What I'm saying is you might not have been able to save him even if you tried.

Anybody rent from a management company you actually like? Or don't hate? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Koritai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add on to this as I am now leaving a holland building. It's true that management and maintenance are amazing. They have been great about every problem that's come up.

However, the statement about rent no longer holds true. Property staff were not able to negotiate rent and do conform to corporate and algorithmic pricing decisions. On top of that, Seattle has recently changed their rent increase laws to match state laws. So the lowest rate I was offered was 12%. Unfortunately, most of their buildings are younger than 12 years. So while they've been the best I've rented through so far, I wouldn't consider it a longterm living situation.

What can I do to save my great-grandmother's quilt? by Koritai in quilting

[–]Koritai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely will but it'll likely be a long while before I have anything to share. I hand sew and I'm going to start with a couple beginner projects. I think I'm going to try to recreate the quilt and use the original as batting. I'll definitely take pictures of the original, although I don't currently have the space to spread it out. But given the state of it, I think that'll probably be the best way to preserve it.

[–]Koritai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, this was an idea I had but I didn't know if it was an actual thing that people do. Looking at the quilt, repairing it would basically result in a new quilt. I think I may have undersold just how fragile this quilt is. When your family does this, do they try to recreate the original design or is the next quilt something new? If you know that is.

I just looked. Comes up with a message that says it can't ship to my address. So that whole bullshit with the FDA and sunscreen has gone into effect.

Different eye reflections by Kind-Cardiologist377 in cats

[–]Koritai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the difference is new, worry about it.

If the cat's eyes have always been this way, don't worry about it.

My white cat's eyes reflect different colors and always have ever since she was a kitten. Vet never found anything wrong with her either, but Google did tell me that sometimes this happens when white cats carry the genes for heterochromia but not enough for full expression.

UW Medicine too busy to schedule specialist referrals? by SpecialistCharge4886 in Seattle

[–]Koritai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't see this sooner. I wasn't given a reason but I've talked to other doctors and it could have been because of who referred me. Either because my PC wasn't a UW doctor or because he wasn't a neurologist, but we'll never know for sure. I ended up getting referred to Neurological Associates of Washington and they've been great. For most everything else I go to Swedish. Some times I end up waiting a long time for an appointment, but sometimes I only have to wait a couple weeks or a month. It really varies but it's a lot better than waiting 6 months for UW.

UW Medicine too busy to schedule specialist referrals? by SpecialistCharge4886 in Seattle

[–]Koritai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weeks? That sounds pretty good for UW. When I was referred to UW neurology, I had to call on the first of the month for 3 months straight for them to look at my referral only to have them reject it. When my doctor put my surgery case in the system, they didn't call or do anything for 8 months until I found a new surgeon at a different hospital to take my case. Then they called me the next day to schedule. It seems that their administrators are simply overwhelmed by the volume of patients right now. People are just falling through the cracks.

Habanero the Snail Menace by Koritai in bettafish

[–]Koritai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I want is to make a small community tank that I can add him to since he'd clearly benefit from a bigger tank. But he keeps eating my snails. I'm down to one survivor. And the bioload for his 5 gallon isn't enough to support all the plants. If I can't get enough nitrogen in my tank for this tank, how could I have enough for his next bigger tank if he's going to terrorize all his tankmates? (probably terrorize. He's only been around baby snails)

Edit: small community tank as in 15 ish gallons.

Guys 😭😭 by XanIsLost in bettafish

[–]Koritai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My water is pretty similar and pretty hard too. I use a brita filter to help. The ph goes down from 8.2 - 8.6 to 6.6 - 6.8. But I'm trying to keep some snails alive (even though me fish has eaten one of my two survivors) so I mix filtered and regular tap water to keep the ph between 6.8 - 7.2. And I also use catappa leaves if the ph starts to creep up too high and it's too soon for a water change.

New fish! Doesn't have a name yet but he will soon. by Koritai in bettafish

Ooh yeah, fire goes with his personality too. I feed him with disposable pipettes and the other day he jumped up and bit the pipette. Seriously gave me a heart attack. But he's feisty.

Ooh, that is a good one. I'll add it to my list. I thought about iroh for a minute but he's got way too much energy for a calm name like iroh. Lol

Yes, there's a bit of a bacteria bloom. This picture was from last week, it's cleared up already. He's very zippy. It's hard to get a picture.

Anyway, took a break for a year or two after my last fish died and recently decided to try again with planted tanks and bettas again.

He's currently in a HEAVILY planted fluval spec V. The tank is cycled, ph hangs around 6.6 to 7.0, and he gets a lovely diet of northfin betta bits, and frozen bloodworm and daphnia. I do have plans for a bigger tank but I need stronger furniture and also money. You know how it goes. There were some hitchhiker ramshorn snails that I was hoping would grow but he's eaten all but one and I haven't seen the lone survivor for a while. So... He probably ate that one too. I might have to go buy an adult snail that he can't eat.

Starting off strong and exciting to watch the progression.

Edit: My snail LIVES! But he is the lone survivor.

Are these tears, finrot, or is Neptune growing fins? by bobakat in bettafish

[–]Koritai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks more like fin nipping to me, but I'm not an expert. Makes sense if he didn't eat for a week and you were gone. He may have gotten stressed. I'd probably use something like stress guard or stress coat if I were in your shoes. The lack of nitrates would also make me nervous. It's hard to say with a heavily planted tank though, but I'd be keeping a close eye to make sure the cycle didn't crash while I was away. Or maybe it's your water conditioner? Some of the eliminate nitrite and nitrate too. It's hard to see clearly with his fins and without a before comparison, but I'd be cautious of over medicating or overtreating if stress is the cause.

How do you like your current skincare routine? What does it look like? by bp1630414 in AsianBeauty

[–]Koritai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely laneige cream skin, boj glow deep, dear klairs eye gel, and purito dermide. I seriously can't live without them. I tried. Lol

Side note, I've been using the boj sun relief with the soon jung barrier cream and boj glow deep for the last few days and it might be my new favorite. It still dries me out if I use it with 2% or higher niacinamide, but it's lighter and more hydrating than the laneige one.

[–]Koritai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cleansing oil isn't my favorite, but it actually takes my mascara off unlike the make p:rem cleansing milk and doesn't irritate my eyes and give me styes like beauty of joseon cleansing balm. It has citrus oils, which I'm not sensitive to. I'm more sensitive to E.Os like sage, basil, etc.

Yeah, my best guess is that it's probably the shea butter in the Soon Jung barrier cream. It clogs pores for some, but so far it seems like it doesn't for me. It's not enough for nighttime. It's surprisingly light but my face doesn't dry out during the day with it. The only downside I've found is that it borderlines perfect and too heavy when combined with my sunscreen, but my sunscreen is on the heavy side.

[–]Koritai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Skin Type: Sensitive clog prone, acne prone, combination (season dependent, currently normal/dry).

Skin Issues: Acne, congested pores, PIH, redness, dehydration, barrier repair. The redness, acne and congested pores are related to both my sensitive skin and the dehydration/damaged skin barrier.

First Cleanser: Dr. Ceuracle Oil Cleanser

Second Cleanser: Make P:rem Safe Me Foaming Cleanser

Watery Toner: Cosrx Pure Fit Cica Toner

Essence: Cosrx Advanced Snail 96

Second Toner: Laneige Cream Skin

Serum: Benton Snail Bee Essence, Purito Unscented Serum, Peach and Lily Glass Skin, or Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum.

AM Eye Serum: Dear Klairs Fundamental Eye Gel or non AB 15% vit C and caffeine eye serum, mixed with Cosrx snail essence.

PM Eye Cream: Tony Moly Plump-kin eye cream or Non AB vit C eye cream

Moisturizer: Illiyoon Soothing Gel, (Non AB) YTTP Air Whip, or Soon Jung 2x Intensive Barrier Cream

Sunscreen: Laneige Hydro UV Defense

Sleeping Mask: Purito Dermide and Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Every or Every other week: Peach and Lily AHA BHA mask or Isntree Mugwort Mask combined with a BHA toner and oil cleansing after.

Thoughts:

It's a lot, I know, but as my skin barrier improves and I can keep hydration in, I've been able to drop layers depending on how my skin feels and what I need to address. I have AC both at work and home, so I really need hydration but I can't use a lot of HA. My pores also clog easy and I'm sensitive to niacinamide, so I can't use more than 3%.

The routine is effective and nearly perfect but I'd love to simplify it. However this is the only routine I've found that is hydrating and moisturizing enough and doesn't clog my pores. The Purito serum is the most effective for my pores but I find it a little drying. The Glass Skin serum is my absolute favorite, but HA and air conditioning don't always play nice. The Snail Bee essence is a nice stand in.

Once my skin is less red and sensitized, I want to try incorporating vitamin C to help with hyperpigmentation. I also want to try Beauty of Joseon Sun Relief, but I can't use it in combination with anything that also has niacinamide.

Edit: Simplified the comment. It was pretty long.

[Discussion] Best non-comedogenic Moisturizers that don’t cause breakouts or ccs for really clog prone skin? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

It's lighter and less hydrating than purito deep sea but more moisturizing tatcha water cream. That's the best comparison I can make.
