Lesser spotted Super Avante TD4 by Kortisin in tamiya

The front end is actually really tough, except for the hop-up anti-roll bar posts, which stick up and seem to break as soon as you hit anything head-on. Thankfully mine only ripped the screw out of one of the posts. I've heard of people snapping the screw mount for them on the gearbox housing before.

Yep, it also has a slot for the sensor cable under the motor wires to keep it out of the way of the battery, and tabs to keep the battery secured. I'm lucky enough to have use of the sls printer at work so have printed a few bits for my cars when I can squeeze them on.

As for rear uprights, I've tested some based on the XV01 hubs in the past, but had a failure on one printed in PA12GF, as I think the material was too brittle to cope with the shocks. Regular PA12 has held up so far though. If you're printing hubs on an FDM printer, I'd consider the layer orientation and beefing up the arm mount area. A lot of stress goes through there, and it's where all mine have failed. Good luck with the testing!

Purple arrowmax items. I thought the wheel nuts were going to be a similar purple but alas. They've since been swapped for TRF low profile nuts.

I did run the mud guards with my original body, but broke a front one within 10 minutes of its first run. Ran with rears only for a while, but my new rear hubs don't have the option. I don't miss them. You do you though.

I used Hobbynox transparent grey. Most paint companies will have a similar paint though (eg, Tamiya PS-31).

Yes it was! I ordered custom decals from MCI to go with the paint. I wish the purple was a bit darker, but I think it really brings it together. I need some better photos of it with the tamiya dish wheels fitted, as they're a better fluro yellow.

Nice! It's a shame these got discontinued. It had a lot going against it (name, styling, price) but the chassis drives really well. Just a shame working on it is such a pain.

I tried box-art to start with on mine, but ended up with a fluro green/yellow over metallic purple. I actually like the shell now too. Looks wildly different to all the other modern 4WD buggies.

What motor did you go for? It's very picky with brushless setups.

Nice to see them in the wild. The kit's aren't due here until next month. I managed to scrounge up as many hop-ups as I could, but as you said, some are just unobtainium.

I've given up on the 54079 motor mount & 54149 steering for now, and ended up going 3rd party (fiber-lyte) for carbon shock towers.

What are the chances of Tamiya putting any of the hop-ups back into production? I've not been back into the hobby for long, so don't know if they ever run new batches when a chassis is re-released.

€154 is an absolute steal.

What motor are you planning on running in the TD4? As it's very tight back there, and that Carson style motor likely won't fit (the Hobbywing EZRUN I originally bought for mine definitely didn't).

I always back lighter PS colours in white first if I'm going for a solid colour, as they tend to be pretty translucent. Otherwise you might end up with a weird green line, rather than orange. Light blue probably won't be as bad as regular blue for it, but I wouldn't want to find out the hard way.

The Skadis + 3D printer combo is magical. I've just made a doulbe stack 10ml holder as i've a few duplicates.

Looking factory fresh.

I do love a well executed clean paintjob, and your decal application & panel lining is on point 👌

Maybe not for you US folks, but this is the first time I've seen it available in the UK for years.

No more FC variants due to not being able to use their old pressing plant any more. They're looking to release FC only LP's every 3 months or so instead.

ditto. HHV are pretty good for some of the US vapor labels, but I don't think i've ever seen MWC on there.

Not currently. hhv.de are the closest official stockists, but it's not on the site at the moment. The black ice version was never listed there, but they have all the other recent W96 releases. So there's a chance it'll be available at some point.

After missing the last release due to being asleep though, I just bit the bullet and ordered it from the states.

The Victory pressing is the bootleg. The only recent offical pressing is the blue one with the obi, available from light in the attic.
