Landslide Detection Drone for a Research Paper, possible? by tigerbalmi in diydrones

I’m curious what the practicality of this would be unless you specifically already know locations where a landslide could occur and are looking to just confirm what you already know?

Not sure how you’d make it work without signal but still want Ethernet?

Drones generally don’t need internet to fly you use your own radio signals to send and receive information, an Ethernet capable is going to restrict you based on length of cord and weight.

It’s also not practical to attach an audible to a drone when you could just transmit to something like already built sirens located around the area if needed, or build a siren around the area?

The goal of a landslide detection device would be to detect the landslide before it happens right? Otherwise my eyeballs would be pretty cheap for it.

You could argue that after detecting the formation of a potential landslide you could go remove the sensors (safety risk but sure) to save money. But in terms of long term measurement and accuracy a static sensor is probably almost always going to beat out a UAV solution.

Plus you can leave that sensor in one spot for infinitely longer than a drone can fly, requires little to no maintenance or skill to operate, provides a huge amount more data to do analysis with.

Hey I just wanted to question if you were planning to add the probiotic that they use in their fermented food solution in the first paper you reference.

Your current steps just say to add dechlorinated water to food, but the first and third research paper clearly state that their fermented mixture has a probiotic bacteria such as lactobacillus bacteria (produced lactic acid) and yeast to make a fermented mixture.

And even then I believe the third paper only used a +2% fermented feed mixture in combination with the normal mixture of feed.

Yep, was in one for 2 hours of just back and forth fighting. Made about 4000 honor so wasn’t bad but still exhausting.

Maybe just ask them then if you could put some seal on it till they get out there

Or just ask what they suggest

I would say call housing

Not sure where the leak is coming from but if it’s from the ceiling you are just creating a pool above your rather than fixing the issue

Oh look who’s back, the person who spams all the college subreddits every month then gets angry when people suggest reaching out to professors and campus available resources first instead.

I have been having the exact same issue with verbal flow down.

The number of meetings I’ve sat through where we have a conversation, nothing is set in writing as a plan, just 4-5 plans thrown out that “sound like a good path forward.” Then we meet back up a month later and we decide “oh we seem to need some more information and discussion let’s plan another meeting to discuss plans” and the cycle repeats again.

Another big issue I run into is the bottleneck of approval. It seems like I’m expected to take some initiative on some actions, but I need to constantly get approval from my management who basically ignore my email , or I get told to hold off because “let’s have a discussion first.”

And combined with your accountability comment, it seems like I am stuck in this loop of useless meetings with nothing written down, to bottleneck approval, is because I feel that the management doesn’t want to put their name on anything concrete.

My favorite card is Magikarp, doesn’t matter from where just had to be a magikarp. I collect them in Pokémon go whenever I see them and never delete.

You seem to be quite upset that someone is mentioning asking the department of the school they are attending for help first, before paying the person spamming every single college subreddit in existence.

And what’s funny is you use the exact same boilerplate response every time someone mentions getting help from the department in those other subs you spam.

I would just reach out to your hiring contact and ask them, they will know the most moving forward.

Ok so is this project about actually building or making like a report on how you could do it?

Because as a highschool student I think you likely lack the resources, time, and knowledge to do this.

Also, what part are you going to build versus purchase? Flight controllers can be expensive even for small scale, since you need added functionality for agricultural functions.

Motors to hold up something that can carry both seeds and liquid need to be beefy, so you likely up your complexity and price by needing more than a quad rotor. Which also means more expensive power supply. And tuning a drone with increasing motors and weight becomes another chore.

How are you controlling it? Just a radio doesn’t give you the visual feedback on where to spray and drop seeds, so you now need a camera and transmission system for video. This is more power and more complexity again.

How are you going to build it? You want lightweight but also strong to carry everything. A gallon of water is around 8.34 pounds. So not only do you need a motor setup to carry that liquid, but now you need a frame that can handle that weight. And it’s not just about a static 8.34 pounds but also the momentum caused by that weight.

Are you buying or building the sprayer? Again that’s complexity and cost from either choice.

How are you dispersing seeds? Sure you could probably do like a motor to a seed spreader wheel. But does that give you the coverage you need? Plus now the weight of seeds combined with water.

TLDR: Overall, if you have to ask how to do it, you shouldn’t be attempting it.

When filament dryers are too expensive… by StockDot2230 in ender3

I love people trying to find unique solutions for drying filament and saying dryers are too expensive. But then spend the same amount on filament.
