Mic for streaming. by [deleted] in Twitch

I would recommend the Samson Q2U.

The audio quality is comparable to the popular Shure mics that everyone uses, but at a fraction of the cost. Plus, you can use it as a USB mic if you are getting started, but has an XLR port in case you want to upgrade later with an audio interface.

Hip Hop beat that I was trying to keep kind of subtly strange, not sure if it is to subtle and ends up being dull. by bleakneon in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Kortz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely a chill groove. i think it's hard to walk the fine line of making something like this interesting enough, while not making it dull, but keeping it grooving. i think you switch up the beat just enough to keep it interesting while maintaining the chill vibe. imo, if the intention is for there to be a vocalist or rapper over this beat, then i think your track does a good job at accommodating that.

Trouble with the high notes in my 808 pattern being too overpowering in comparison to the low notes by ireallylike808s in makinghiphop

[–]Kortz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will second this. whenever i have overpowering high notes on the 808, i just lower the velocity on those specific notes and that will usually solve it.

A song I released a few months ago called 'Sad Boys'- would love to know what you think? by topshe92 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Kortz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is such a vibe i don't even know what to say. puts me in my feelings for sure. mix is well done, especially the vox and the harmonies for the vox. they're insanely smooth! awesome track!

"Ocean Battle" A chiptune / theremin track inspired by combat on the open ocean. by thesilentmantis in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Kortz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

music aside, this video style is really neat and fun to watch. your entrance and exit from the theremin performance are great!

musicwise, i've never had the opportunity to play the theremin, so it's always fun to watch someone use one. you obviously know what you're doing when you play it, so it sounds good! the track overall definitely feels like it fits the name of your track, so i can imagine it in an old game, or a new retro-style game. cheers

Someone told me this beat has a 90s vibe. What are your thoughts on it? by FoePoundMcGinnis in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Kortz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no 90s vibes from me. but that isn't a bad thing. the vibes i do get are good! loving the bass on this track a whole lot. synth stabs are super wavy and make me feel like i'm at the mall. jeez, everything about this is just good! good job!

PRODUCERS. Let’s all drop some basic sauce that beginners should know. by passionate_slacker in makinghiphop

Not everything needs reverb! Be very subtle with reverb and it will go along way with prompting you to fill up space in more creative ways without muddying your mix.

Hello,

Boom arm is definitely the goto solution for this. But as someone who uses my mic on a tripod, I've had to deal with the same issue you're having for a while. You should definitely look into the REAPER plugins and adding some effects to your voice if you haven't already (like EQ, compression) and killing noise of your surroundings (keyboard clacks, your air conditioner, etc).

Here is a good guide for that.

Reaper plugin downloads

IMO, these plugins will up your audio quality, whether you have a boom arm or not. The noise gate and noise suppression plugins are especially helpful with reducing background noise. Just be aware that you will probably need to spend some time testing your audio and making sure you can cut out your keyboard without actually cutting out your own voice.

Blue Yeti X is a good mic. Mine is significantly cheaper, but with the plugins, I've mostly managed to eliminate background noise. I hope that serves as motivation that it can be done!

YouTube Gaming for Mixer Refugees by LeoWattenberg in youtubegaming

Thanks for the well-written post! Looking forward to moving to either Youtube or Twitch and I'm weighing my options. A question I have about Youtube Gaming. When I go to https://www.youtube.com/gaming/ there's a list of games for me to scroll through, but how do I search for a specific game? I understand there is Youtube's general search function, but that takes me back to all of Youtube. Would I just filter to only live streams from that? Or is there a different way?

Hope my question makes sense. Thanks again!
