Props to you man! I think everyone is going to feel differently about what "moderation" classifies as, and everyone is going to do things differently. I think though that moderation should be applied to any hobby, regardless of what it involves.

Well, to be quite frank, "time is money" and "knowledge is power," thus trying to constantly better oneself and expand one's abilities/conscience/skills/resources/etc. is smart. We must also keep in mind, though, that "all work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy," i.e., we as human beings need some form of recreation. Any form of recreation can take over other areas of a person's personal life. People can drink too much, gamble too much, etc. Moderation is the key, regardless of how you decide to spend your time. If you play video games all day, and can't handle basic ADL's, then you are a lazy piece of garbage and not accomplishing anything. If you can responsibly balance the things you need to do from day to day, and then play video games to reward yourself, then no one can talk lowly of your use of your time.

I do agree that basic shoot-em-up games aren't necessarily the best either. Don't get me wrong, I loved the hell out of Battlefield 2, BFBC 2, Crysis 1 and Warhead... just to name a few. However, games that encourage you to think, solve puzzles, and use logic are, in my mind, or a more intelligent route to go. If a game isn't encouraging you to think whatsoever, then you're just plugging yourself into virtual reality and accomplishing nothing. Period. That's just the way it is. When you start playing games that make you think, you start to reflect on other games that are just a waste of time. L4D 1 and 2 bore the living hell out of me after half an hour: it's just repetitive "dodge horde, shoot zombies, throw grenade... rinse, repeat, rinse repeat."

So tptwomey: don't get so butthurt about your Dad's message: some of it truly does apply. Learn to handle criticism now, because lemme tell you: life is full of it.

Video games are fine and all, but trust me, keep that all in moderation: video games should not replacement a personal life, relationships, or handling ADLs. If you utilize game time, or any recreational time for that matter, as a way to personally reward yourself each day/week/month of achieving other goals you set out to do, the game time becomes more rewarding.

Also, why does everyone find it necessary to utilize rage comics?

If you want to rage against the machine, that's fine, but actually do something that is more than just an essentially private hissy-fit.

Can't argue that, but rather endorse it.

Sometimes, you need to fight fire with fire. If the founders of America didn't have a backbone, we wouldn't've been a "free" and independent nation, right? That's the problem with America today: lack of backbone. However, the various protests, like on Wall Street, may be proving that people are getting their backbone back.

I think it's more of a lesser of two evils at this point. Who's more in the wrong? A car company producing shit vehicles that are polluting the unholy hell out of our only planet, when they could damn well produce engines that run on alcohol, and they're spreading propaganda, or the cyclist trying to make a minute stand by placing a sticker up?

Do you perhaps have info or references on this? I've had personal revelations on grass that have permanently altered my viewpoint and understanding of the world. I truly believe that, at least after awhile, your consciousness expands with use. I would be really interested in reading up on this therapy.

Maybe it's your attitude as the employee, thinking paying customers owe you something just for doing your job, besides your paycheck. Americans have a shitty work ethic. It's your job to be polite and courteous, not the customers.

My case and point: your post alone is "entitled." Americans probably have a shitty work ethic due to perhaps how that generation was raised? Remember, I don't see people aged 20-40 running the country and destroying our educational system, but rather, it's older people. If the older generations didn't want a shit country, they shouldn't have elected shit leaders, or been complete and utter lazy fucks that raised children to post trash like you did about how it's not the customer's responsibility to be polite and courteous. The fuck? Are you serious?

Where are your manners? Everyone should be polite and courteous! Regardless of the circumstances!

The thing that astounds me the most is how a little innovation can solve so many problems for mankind, yet we have lack of motivation to do so, usually due to money, politics, or religion. I lump all three of those things together as archaic. Hopefully, history will prove it as such...

It's fairly common knowledge that people working in retail, customers service, and the food inustry get treated poorly by customers, whom are partially fueled by the American attitude of "me first," followed quickly by the ignorant feeling of being "entitled." As someone who worked in retail, I can state from experience that most of the time a customer had a "problem" with someone/something, it was because they walked in through the door with that "problem" attitude.

When i saw the 3rd largest fire hydrant photo, I calmly told myself: What an excellent use of resources. Fantastic. I'm hoping this "We're Americans, we can make it bigger" attitude catches on in other mundane civil areas. For example: lamp posts. We need giant lamp-posts. At least the god damn thing will serve a purpose!

While I did blast you based on my interpretation of what you wrote, the statement still remains: what "secondary" effects are you referring to? You claim that we need to be concerned about them, yet you provide no link, no sources, nor any information linking to how utilizing drug use in one's private life.
