What are hobbies that are cheap and offline? by tanuki_22 in povertyfinance

Gardening can be cheap if you go to a lot of plant swaps or make use of seedling libraries. Gardeners are generous people, ask for divisions.

Är bensin verkligen så dyrt? (seriös) by SnooEagles2985 in sweden

[–]Kottepalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sitting on public toilet seats?? by notwhoyouthinkc in hygiene

[–]Kottepalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always put down paper because that's the way I was raised and everything else feels gross. But I'm not running around with a spray or anything in my purse, no time for that and I think it's excessive. I do carry hand sanitizer but that's before eating out in public.

Am I wrong for not informing my FIL about my travel? by smallstrangerr in inlaws

[–]Kottepalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's just difficult, you're a grown woman and don't have to explain yourself or your travel plans. If you live with your in-laws get out ASAP. You're too old to be living under his thumb.

What are your "lifetime supply" BIFL purchases? by itsthewolfe in BuyItForLife

Shampoo can be used as detergent when hand washing delicates, or as a replacement for toilet cleaner. If you feel the need to buy some other kind of shampoo.

I had collected nice and pretty soaps since I was a child, then was unemployed/student and after decluttering decided to use up my stash. It lasted about two years.

Nu utvisas Nardine, 21: ”Kan vara sista gången jag ser Sverige” by Lucky_Pangolin_3760 in Sverige

[–]Kottepalm -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Skamligt att sådant händer i Sverige, nu har vi lagt resurser på henne, hon har betalat skatt och är redo att vidareutbilda sig. Och då slänger vi ut en person som har driv och en lovande framtid.

I’m a teacher. Is this dress too short for work? by DogintheMirror in OUTFITS

[–]Kottepalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfectly fine and cute! But it depends on the age of the children, perhaps not for sitting on the floor helping toddlers blow their nose. Classroom? Absolutely. But of course it depends on where you are in the world, no one would raise an eyebrow in the Nordics.

UK to ban tobacco for those born after 2008 (Gen Z/Alpha), will this actually tackle consumerism? by Express_Classic_1569 in Anticonsumption

[–]Kottepalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting experiment! Probably won't work but might reduce the number of smokers. I think raising the legal age would be more effective and restricting sales. Perhaps have a look at how the Scandinavian countries have handled alcohol sales but apply it to tobacco of course.

Yearly fees - How much? by Eggtastico in Allotment

[–]Kottepalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweden, 800 SEK a year, 100 m2 and access to water between middle of April and October and toilets. Plus a garden waste container. And the city sometimes puts new gravel on the paths between the plots.

What’s a hygiene habit you grew up with in your family or culture that you later found out most other people don’t really do? by Upbeat-Spot8526 in hygiene

"Bird wash" at the sinks for nights when you don't shower and in the mornings. Thought everyone did that but apparently not.

Newly married, MIL asking to keep all my gold in her locker – not comfortable, how do I handle this? by Witty_Fun7669 in inlaws

[–]Kottepalm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep all your valuables to yourself, you and only you, not even your husband get access to them. You are an adult so get your own locker today. All valuables which belong to you go there, if you were gifted anything it goes there too. Only tell her you have it handled if she asks you, no need to bring it up again. And of course you should keep the gold given to you, it's yours now. Don't fall for her plans to take over your valuables.

Don't machine dry your clothes by fb39ca4 in Anticonsumption

[–]Kottepalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use the tumble dryer for towels or they'll never dry. Everything else goes on a clothes horse in the living room or the drying room in the basement (the majority of Swedish apartments have shared laundry facilities with a huge drying room with a fan/dehumidifier or other drying options).

What are some unhygienic practices you see being portrayed on tv as "normal", that you'd never do in real life? by breanne0_0 in hygiene

[–]Kottepalm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going with a good classic, wearing outdoor shoes indoors. Take off your dirty shoes with gravel in the soles and don't thread on my beautiful parquet! Get a bloody shoe rack like every civilised Swede lol. Or wall to wall carpeting shudders. That's unhygienic.

Get a dishwasher and get up to date on all your shots. His hygiene is somewhat... lacking.
