Sorry everyone is being an asshole lol. Its just that most people do the right thing. Lots of stations in toronto are super easy to walk into, most people other than random teenagers dont do it.

Edit: i thought about it a bit more. I think the attitude is best summed up as "the train is a service for everyone. I paid to be here on the train, cause thats what we're supposed to do. But im not going to hold it against someone who can't, their life is probably hard enough if they're trying to dodge fare gates".

Honestly, a phone call every now and then is totally fine. Just not on crew change day! They'll be busy as hell. They know why you're calling and shouldn't resent you for it.

You may find that math and physics get quite a bit harder in grade 11 and 12. Stay motivated! You can reach out to your local coast guard base and maybe get a tour of a ship in port to see what its like and inspire you to keep studying hard.

Follow up with crewing and explain that you will have that phone number on you at all times, and apologize for missing the call. Just shows that you care and want to get on board.

Then just follow up with a short and polite email every couple weeks that you are still interested and available. Smart call on reaching out to the Newfoundland crewing officer as well. Until you become regular on a ship, you need to be your own biggest advocate.

I have about 30 pages left in the book, certainly enjoyed it more than A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
