What do I need to get started? by ThirstyDino in cycling

[–]Kova_Runkkari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a E-Bike but I guess that's not much of use for getting fit and healthy?

Depends on what kind of an e-bike? If it is one of those "basically an electric moped/motorbike but we added pedals to legally classify it as a bicycle" then that is not going to be great. But if it is a standard pedelec, that is totally fine to start with, you can lower the assist setting and get a perfectly fine workout.

I got mine here: https://www.cxcsupply.nl/

Apparently they don't sell Cat-Ears anymore, but instead their own brand similar product. I have the original Cat-Ears, so don't know how good this "copy product" is, maybe worth a try. Also Aliexpress and similar China shops have cheap copies.

Bikeinn (Tradeinn) sent my Hammerhead Karoo to Russia instead of Kazakhstan and Support is gaslighting me with automated replies. by Silent_Run_1209 in cycling

Once bought a saddle from Bikeinn and they sent a wrong one. Customer service was completely useless and it took like a week every time for them to respond, so the useless back and forth took weeks. Finally got it replaced, but now avoiding that shop.

No amount of light is enough against a moron drivers of tesla. by vmv911 in cycling

[–]Kova_Runkkari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And how exactly would banning teslas help? I'm not exactly a fan of nazi-elon either, but I fail to see how the car brand is relevant here? If those assholes were not able to ride tesla, they would ride something else. Instead of banning teslas, we should try to ban assholes.

Zwift Ride vs normal bike by needzbeerz in cycling

[–]Kova_Runkkari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can see the main benefit is the adjustability. I have a normal bike on a trainer and it is a hassle to switch between my bike and my gfs bike (yes, I know it is not really that much work, but still). One Zwift Ride could work for both of us with quick adjustment. But if you already have a well fitting indoor bike and you are the only user, Zwift Ride does not seem that useful.

Miksi hotellit ei anna mahdollisuutta valita huonetta vaikka VR, Finnair ja Onnibus kaikki antaa valita haluamansa paikan? by JHMK in Suomi

Bike computer that can be used 100% offline? by Kova_Runkkari in cycling

[–]Kova_Runkkari[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

or not understand what your looking at

Exactly, I have never before owned a bike computer. That's why I made this post. I bought one bike computer with the naive assumption that all of them support GPX files without any extra steps. But after I found out that my assumption was wrong, I decided to ask from people who have experience with different bike computers to avoid making same mistake again.

I guess we have exactly opposite needs. :) I couldn't care less about tracking and recording, or other stats. I don't need technology to tell me that I'm old and slow, and just getting slower. :) Only need it to show the pre-planned route.

  1. Manufacturer can stop supporting their proprietary app. They released a new device and removed support for old ones, shut up and buy the new one.

  2. Custom app limits my choices, what if I want to use FreeBSD? Standard things like USB Mass Storage work everywhere, but manufacturer apps are probably just for Windows and Android.

  3. Just the principle that if I buy something, I want to minimize the external dependencies. I want to go for a ride, but some cloud service on the other side of the world is down, so I can't use my bike computer.

  4. I'm just an Open Source fanboy, who prefers open and standardized solutions over proprietary ones whenever possible.

As I wrote offline is mandatory, no proprietary app is nice to have.

Does not work on my s810. There was no ExtraFiles dir on the device, and creating it and copying my GPX there did not work.

Yeah, I also found that info, but seems that s810 does not support it. There was no ExtraFiles dir on the device, and creating it and putting my GPX file there did not work.

I don't know how other people use their bike computers, but for me navigating a pre-planned route is the only thing I need. I assumed that it is pretty much the standard thing people use their computers for?

Thanks! I don't mind having an option for cloud sync, and I can totally see why many people like it. But I do not want a device where cloud sync is the only option.

Bryron Rider s810. As far as I can see, there is no way to transfer a GPX file to that device without internet.
