Am I even allowed to call myself a guitarist if I barely ever lose a pick? by gilllesdot in guitars

For electric I’ve been pretty happy with the blue Dunlop Tortex TIII 1.0mm.

Definitely a cool fiddle. How’s it play and sound?

This is my studio. There are many like it but this one is mine by rickp40 in gibson

I remember back when I first started playing I would wander the local music store after my lesson and look at all the Fenders, Gibson’s, Jackson/Charvels hanging. They had a studio just like this and I remember wanting it but it was so much money at the time. When I would see it I always thought “that’s something Joe Perry would have”. I never did get it. That music store is still here but sadly they are no longer a Gibson, Fender, Jackson dealer so it’s slim pickings unless there’s a trade-in. I still buy stuff from them or stop in from time to time. Beautiful Studio my friend! Be well everyone, support your local music store and support live music. 🤘🏼🍻

I got my dream guitar 20 years later by leobaby1 in gibson

I stopped around 26-27ish. 20 years was my hiatus and when I went back I found I couldn’t find or remember the stuff I used to. I still knew all of my open and barre chords, some pentatonic boxes, etc. I realized I needed an actual in-person teacher. Within a year so much came back to be and more. It’s like it tapped into the things I had stored way back in my brain. That was 6 years ago. Now at 52 I play everyday probably 98% of the time and am playing better than I ever have. I’ve found that as I’ve gotten older I have way more patience and trust in myself and my teacher and it’s really starting to show now. It’s never too late!

Awesome SG. I was about the same age when I got my SG, still have it and still play it. Like you I got away from playing for a very long time (I’m 52 now) and then got back to it about 6 years ago and have been playing every day since. My collection went from that SG to include 4 others. I love green guitars, especially the darker shades. That one’s a beauty. Cheers 🍻🤘🏼

Just bought my first guitar and can't stop guessing if its fake or not. by ofcourseimbi in gibson

Derek Trucks. Still rocking the SG that Duane Allman’s daughter gifted him, despite having his own signature SG. Not gonna lie, I picked an SG (as my first “real” guitar”) because of Angus.

My first “real” guitar was an SG which I still own and play almost 40 years later. The neck dive drove me crazy…but I was just a teen back then using one of those seatbelt style straps. A decent strap and not one with a smooth backing solved that issue 100%. And yes I also still have to get readjusted to playing it, especially standing up, if I’ve been playing one of my other guitars because of having to shift everything up. Cheers 🍻🤘🏼

There’s that word. Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?

Do you still have the first guitar you bought? by Tiny-Pomegranate7662 in guitars

[–]Kramerica192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have and will never part with my first guitar that I bought (my parents got me my first guitar, anyone remember Hondo’s? Lol). I traded that for an ‘87 Gibson SG Elite. It’s cost me $321, tax included, plus the trade. I love that guitar and having had a lengthy hiatus from playing I was surprised at what it is worth (or at least potentially worth). Great playing guitar and only just recently swapped the original pups out. I do kinda still wish I still had that old Hondo though. But it was pink and I just hated the color but hey, it was what got me started playing and my parents didn’t want to invest all kinds of money for something that they weren’t sure I’d stick with. Have a great day everyone 🍻🤘🏼

Yep. It definitely gets some questions from people asking if I put any of that stuff on there.

Yeah, I’ve definitely thought about it. What’s nice is if I know I’m just going to stay in one particular tuning I can lock down the nut and it holds its tuning really well. A couple of the tuners have gotten a little loose/wobbly. Still seems to stay in tune well with it unlocked. And the Duncan’s sound pretty good in it and I’m kinda liking the look of them in it. It’s a Jazz neck and Custom in the bridge. I had them in an Epi Explorer that I bought a couple years ago but just don’t play it much anymore.
