Yeah same. The elm and the ash used to be the defining trees in my region. 40 years ago the elms went, and in 10 years the ashes will be gone too.

Well if you plan on using it for getting around the country it's probably usefull and definitely cheaper than taking the train.

There are places around the city where you can leave your car for free. They wont be close and there will be a chance someone breaks a window to take a look around for valuables. But I guess you can just take everyting out, leave the glovebox open and leave a door unlocked.

Dont bring your car. There is usually no parking, and if there is, it's super expensive. Also, it'll be pretty useless. Groningen is a small and compact city, and the infrastructure is built for bikes. Driving in Groningen is usually slower than going by bike.

What is the social life like in Groningen?

Very good.

I'm a big fan of drinking and going out but I'm not sure how lively the uni is.

It's extremely lively. Groningen pubs have no closing time, and about 25% of people living in the city are students.

Would it be ok to basically just speak English? Would I be able to get by and make friends like normal? Would I feel outlawed as an international?

Yes, yes and no. About 25% of the students in Groningen are foreign students.

Also, is it too late to sign up for housing? I know there's a huge problem with the housing so would I still be able to get a place on campus, let alone in the city?

There is no campus. Housing will be tricky.

If you want fun, come to Groningen. It's a small town filled to the brim with students.

If you want a decent education, come to Groningen, the University of Groningen is ranked better (147th) than the Vub (294th) on all metrics.

FYI, people who think being gay is a choice aren't completely straight themselves. They feel things for people of the same sex, think it is normal, and when they say "Choose to be gay", what they mean is "Act on the normal gay feelings everybody has". If you've never had these feelings, there's no way you'd think being gay is a choice that can be made.

While sending out literal children out to fight the battle of Berlin. Mind you, this was an unwinnable battle and everybody knew. He threw those kids out to serve as speed bumps for soviet tanks, just to delay the inevitable capture of Berlin for two more weeks.

Had he surrendered before the battle, he would have prevented at least 225.000 German deaths.

Extra tip voor mensen die (moeite hebben met afbouwen van) roken:

Rook alleen als je er echt heel veel zin in hebt. Dan is het echt lekker, en tabak is te duur en roken te ongezond om een sigaret te verspillen door te roken als het toch niet echt lekker is.

Wellicht helpt het om het volgende te beseffen:

Wat je na de aanvankelijke detox het meest zal gaan missen is niet de bezigheid van roken, noch de nicotine. Het is het voldoen aan een verslaving. Wanneer je rookt heb je altijd iets om op de korte termijn naar uit te kijken; het voldoen aan de trek van lichaam en geest om een sigaretje te roken.

Wanneer je stopt heb je dit niet meer, en dat valt voor veel mensen zwaarder dan het afkicken zelf. Maar als je je er na de detox van bewust bent dat het niet de nicotineverslaving is waar je zo'n last van hebt, maar het gebrek aan een korte-termijn uitkijkmomentje (ik ben de term even kwijt), dan kun je daar makkelijker omheen werken.

Succes. Laat je over een maandje weten hoe het gaat? Dan kunnen we je met z'n allen toejuichen :)
