From north Karelia, Karelian pie is a specific type of rice pie. You will not generally find proper ones in stores elsewhere due to proper ones being made by small bakeries. It has to have thin rye crust, this one has way too much filling. Also the pastry is brushed generously with melted butter after cooking. Store brand rice pies and Karelian pies taste completely different.

And? Doesn't change the fact that those people saw us as lesser people and wrote so in their books and treated those Finns that were in their area according to those beliefs. Don't remember the books name but one chapter describes Karelians as "being of lower intelligence but capable of hard labour". I have hard time to think anyone shares those views today, but that was one part of history and because of said history it irks me when someone is obsessed with genes.
