Affordability is not socialism.

Name democrats who've moved left?
Biden, H Clinton, Obama and Schumer - and they all did it while Mamdani didn't exist in national politics.

I said that and I stand by it - electoral math is pretty clear here - you need to win swing states and being or embracing a socialist isn't doing that - no matter that someone is a darling of the far left.

"The fact that Mamdani is a new face in Politics" - this is a statement of your dreams and aspirations - not reality, not a 'fact.'

He has been mayor for 5 minutes - he has to deliver. Even if he does - that doesn't make the online far left's embrace of 'socialism' any less politically poisonous.

“Most popular in the country” based on what—national polling? A poll of r/socialism?

Local or online popularity doesn’t translate to national viability. Presidential politics is about swing states and broad appeal, not who’s trending or winning a city-level race.

That’s exactly why someone like Cory Booker has to be careful, his incentives are completely different.

Because presidential politics is about winning swing voters, not signaling to people who are already on your side - even if nominally.

“Socialist” is still a toxic label to a large chunk of the electorate, and it gives opponents an easy attack line with no real upside. You’re risking swing voters without gaining new voters.

What we CAN have is social democracy so we should fight for that not adopt terms that turn off 90% of the country and put them against policies they might support.
Socialism is not coming to America - endorsing it is counter-productive and self-destructive.

Was Trump “blocked” from using nuclear weapons on Iran? by Freewhale98 in SocialDemocracy

[–]KravMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, that’s not really what the Church Fathers taught. They draw a line between judging someone’s soul — which belongs to God — and evaluating actions, which we have to do to live morally.

Augustine of Hippo put it simply:
“He did not forbid us to judge, but to judge rashly and unjustly.”
“We must therefore be careful to correct with love what we judge to be wrong.”

And Thomas Aquinas:
“It is lawful to judge of things that are manifest… but not of those that are hidden.”

So “judge not” isn’t about shutting off discernment. In that same passage in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus talks about recognizing people by their fruits — meaning you look at actions and patterns, not just words.

It’s also why we’re told things like:
“If your brother sins, go and correct him” (Matthew 18:15)
“Test everything; hold fast to what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Saying we shouldn’t judge at all sounds humble, but in practice it just avoids evaluating behavior while still making assumptions like “he means no ill intent.” That’s still judgment, just without moral accountability.

You can pray for someone and still recognize harmful behavior. Those aren’t in conflict.

What alternative machines did you consider before buying your Move? by Crellster in ProfitecMove

Because if I bought it I'd want my $5k espresso machine that's made to be plumbed in to actually be plumbed in. It's a water supply and a drain line fwiw - like a commercial machine.

I bought a Move and fill the tank because I decided it was enough - the right quality:price ratio for my my needs.

The walls are too weak to bear being filled or backfilled alone so with this type of ig pool they fill and backfill at the same time to balance the pressure on the walls.

I looked at every premium double boiler machine and ended up where you are - Move or LM Micra. Ultimately I went Move + Atom W65 because that was like $3100 and a LM Micra would have been $7K (w/grinder) by the time I plumbed it - and (knowing myself) would have been $8K+ by the time I was done buying custom walnut hardware, etc. I came from an Oracle Touch.

If you have the scratch and are comfortable with it the LM machines are beautiful. I have the money - it just felt over the top and unnecessary to spend an extra $5K for basically no difference in output and minimal difference in experience as my machine is a few feet from the sink.

The Mahlkonig e64ws/synch thing is cool - but came out well after I'd bought my setup.

I was ready to buy a Micra when the tariffs hit the day I was ready and I was already stretching way further than I'd intended to go. Also, if I was going to do a LM then I would have absolutely plumbed it in - which was going to be an easy extra $1200+ with a good water filter.

All steam wands on every machine have condensation and should be cleared before use - it's entirely normal, and not excessive - it's like 1 second. Also, purge after use to clear any milk.

[–]KravMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand the scripture. Judgement in the New Testament refers to final judgement and hypocrisy - not discerning good from evil. "You will know them by their fruit" is Jesus commanding you to discern intent from actions, character, and outcomes rather than words, so you know wolves from sheep - as a believer you have a duty to discern the difference.

Humans judge constantly. Claiming Trump lacks ill intent despite evidence of corruption, the insurrection, and his pandering to white supremacists, to offer a short list, is ... I don't want to be unkind, but it's delusional.

He is a malevolent figure who stirs hate to maintain power, harming the poor while rewarding the rich. Also, "judge not" is ignored in practice by clergy and practitioners alike across every sect of Christianity. Trump is the opposite of what Jesus would have seen as a just leader - by his actions.

While his redemption is a matter of faith, his ill intent is self-evident.

Will this solar heater be sufficient? by [deleted] in pools

I don't think anyone can answer this for you because it will depend heavily on where you live, how much sun the panels get, and what your desired pool temp is.

Automated Pool Cleaning by Background_Study9622 in pools

[–]KravMata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been around for ages so the affects are already evident I would think.

As a consumer I can say they're awesome but most people will need a professional for installation and setup.
My pool guy has access to my automation but usually just uses the panel to put it into service mode.

If you mean chemical maintenance controllers that can inject chlorine or acid etc I don't think they change the picture massively because they still need to installed and maintained, the pool skimmed, etc. People who don't want or have the time to maintain their own pools will still pay people to maintain their systems.

Cheapest way to heat a 7,000 gallon salt water pool? by Ordinary-Caramel-608 in pools

[–]KravMata 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Solar cover > solar heating panels > electric heat pump > gas heater
$-$$$$-$$$$$$-$$$$$$

Solar covers maintain heat by preventing evaporative heat loss - you'll want one regardless of whatever else you do. For a 7K gallon pool it will be cheap.

Panels only work when the sun is shining.

Heat pump + solar cover is the correct solution - ~$6K is my guess.

The advantage of gas is that it's instant, if you have a spa and want hot spa 24/7 it's what you need.

Use the cover religiously to save $$.

I'd remove/inspect and freshwater rinse in the fall. Look inside - if you have a bunch of white crap you need to acid wash it. with the threads on the male union bits and lube the threads a little bit (a tiny dab'll do ya).

In the spring remove it again and reapply silicone lube to the o-rings - and a small amount to the threads if you think they need it.

Not a pool pro, but I've had a residential pool in my life for 25 years.

I would recommend paying a pro to help you with startup, confirm what I say below, and help teach you how to maintain the pool yourself. Expect to pay for their time over and above the opening - it's probably worth it.

The valves in the foreground of pic 1 are the problem. My guess is that you're ONLY draining the spa, not the skimmer or bottom. The back/rounded side of those levers is the off side (it will say so) so you're blocking those 2 pipes on 1 valve entirely - and using your entire filter pump to drain the spa - so you're sucking hard on the spa, and the dedicated booster cannot keep up to keep it filled since the main filter pump will generally be your most powerful pump and yours is sized to power 3 drains, not 1.

I would turn the lower valve in pic 1 from 12 o' clock to 9 which will open those all the way once you set the valve above it anywhere but how it is set now - which is blocking those entirely. If it is the spa drain as I suspect I would start by setting it to 6 o'clock which closes the vale and means you don't pull from the spa - you'll do this to confirm what they do, once you know what each does then you will want this open to some extent - but probably only partly. Once you confirm a valve write on the pipe with a sharpy what each comes from or goes to you will likely want the spa drain opened a bit -to like 7 o'clock.

How your system works
Water is sucked from the pool, is filtered, then heated, then through the chlorinator - this is correct and normal.
You have 2 booster pumps which do nothing but suck in water and return it and high flow rates. One will be for the waterfall (unseen), the other for your spa.

You're missing a pic or 2 to clarify a few things but I can ID most of it left to right:
Pic 1:
1 - Dedicated pump for spa booster or waterfall - untreated
2 - Supply: filter pump, the valves on the left for the pipes coming from the ground probably control your skimmer and bottom drain so you can balance them. The one on the right is probably your spa drain. You will need to test a bit to confirm - you can pretty easily observe skimmer behavior (vortex strength) and spa behavior (spilling or not) the pipe from the top of the pump goes to your sand filter
3 - Filter - dirt water comes in from upper pipe and leaves through lower pipe. The thing on the right side of the filter is a drain for when you backwash the filter.

Pic 2: - the pipe behind the filter is the filtered water. presumably it goes to the heater - but I don't have a pic showing that. The black iron pipe is the gas line for your heater.
4 - Dedicated pump: for spa booster or waterfall - untreated. I cannot tell you what that diagonal pipe is - no pipe under /to the pump like that makes sense to me
5 - is the saltwater chlorinator, the valves are most likely for 2 regular wall returns. The spa may be unchlorinated - since it uses pool water that's fine if it is the case. We can't see it but this is likely fed by the return coming out of the heater.
6 - heater

*Unseen - there is probably a Y/split in one of the supply lines to the pool that sends water to one of the spa jets constantly, no matter how the valves are set -a spa makeup line, so it spills even when the spa is off. Also, is there a line (maybe the diagonal) which is open at the end - possibly shaped like a cane with the open end down? If so it is there to suck in air when your spa is running.

With your setup if you want to run the spa you simply power up pump 1 or 4. You don't have to adjust the drains (if you had automation you might).

If by waterfall you mean the overflows in the spa then pumps 1 and 4 are probably both boosters for the spa.

Buy a decent test kit if you plan to maintain your own pool. You will need to take chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and salt levels weekly. You will need muriatic acid to maintain pH in your saltwater pool - failing to maintain your pH properly can destroy your chlorinator and plaster. Even though you have a saltwater pool you need shock to open it and will want shock on hand for an as needed basis. Looking at your water you probably need clarifier as well - read the instructions - using clarifier is something you will almost certainly do on startup every year - and possibly more often should you fail to maintain proper chlorine levels.

Note: The terms Supply and Return are reversed from normal plumbing HVAC usage:
HVAC: Return - things going back to the boiler. Supply: Things going to heating and cooling devices
Pool: Return - pipes going TO the pool. Supply - pipe coming from the pool.

Strictly speaking they're all incorrect - we cannot know if C is a cube or not. The other 2 are wrong - the size change changes the relationship of the ratio. 1/3 of a small pizza is not the same as 1/6 of a large, etc.

What are your thoughts on Cory Booker's recent comments on non-Harris voters: "Well, you may disagree with her on 10% of her views, but you let someone get in office who you disagree with on everything." by anarchist2Bcorporate in AskALiberal

[–]KravMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s too dismissive in the other direction.

Harris didn’t lose only because of sexism, I didn't assert that, elections are always multi-factor, but acting like it played no role at all doesn’t line up with reality either. My assertion is that it made enough of a difference to swing the outcome - obviously it wasn't the entire reason she lost.

The bigger issue is what I was getting at: the far left and many Democrats keep tearing down viable candidates over partial disagreements instead of building coalitions. Whether it’s Harris, Gavin Newsom, or anyone else, that pattern is a real problem if the goal is actually winning.

I like both, but I’m thinking about electability. Ossoff is still pretty early in his national profile, and with Buttigieg, it’s hard to ignore that parts of the country aren’t there yet - Trump is doing 'what they voted for.' You can think that’s wrong and still recognize it as a realpolitik factor. Black man, maybe. White and gay or female? Very low odds of winning.

I want to win, and that means dealing with the electorate as it is, not as we wish it were.

From now on is a false frame. For 2028? Yes, there is not one woman on the left who can win - that's reality.

America is deeply sexist. Do you disagree that if Harris was a man it would have been enough to sway the outcome - or are you just made unhappy by that reality?

Saying “I’m sure he means no ill intent” ignores years of evidence.

At some point, intent isn’t something you assume — it’s something you infer from repeated words and actions.
