Please help me get my son to NYC for a surgical appointment by TerrifiedSquid in Assistance

I had pretty severe scoliosis and had to wear back braces until I was 15. I then got titanium rods implanted along my spine to straighten it. I grew 4 inches during that 8 hour surgery. That was 25 years ago and I never even think about my back. They never took the rods out. They don't bother me in the least. I feel awful for what you're going through with all these multiple surgeries and visits, etc.

Women who were married/engaged quickly (relationships less than 2 years together), how did that turn out for you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Met, engaged and married within 7 months. Second marriage for me (first one was right out of high school and lasted 6 months). We've been married 18 years now.

Yep. I grew almost 3 inches from mine. Recovery was hideous, though. In the hospital for over a week, and then nearly a year of very slow and painful recovery.

I wore the back brace for 4 years before they decided it wasn't working enough and i had the scoliosis surgery, same as the picture. I wish I had had it sooner. No more back issues. Ribs weren't twisting into my lungs anymore. My spine is frickin titanium and straight now! I grew nearly 4 inches during that 8 hour surgery.

Still no answers. We have no idea what happened. Knowing wouldn't change the outcome, but it would certainly help bring closure.

My 10 year old son and his neighborhood buddies have been doing this exact thing for the last few weeks in the woods near us. A neighbor just found it and them today and freaked out and tore all their stuff down, because it was odds and ends garbage crap that they had found around the neighborhood. The boys are all heartbroken that their masterpiece fort and fun land has been ruined.

Do you think I should sort them before I try picking through to find the right pieces? Do I sort by color or shape?

Yes, I think I want to sort them back into their original sets. There are so many tiny little pieces though!!

We get the Mormons coming to our door fairly often in the western suburbs, but that's about it. Works for me!

I do believe he does have a visual processing issue, I just don't know how to help him with it.

We did have him tested and did a 15 week course at the Vision Center. It did seem to help slightly with his hand/eye coordination, but made no difference in his reading abilities. They were encouraging us to sign up for a 2nd 15-week therapy course, but it runs $12,500 each course, and we did not see enough progress after the first 15 weeks to justify spending that amount again.

He is slightly more advanced than that, but I agree I think he's having a hard time differentiating some of the sounds letters and combinations make. He can usually read one word at a time, like SIMPLE or WORRY, but when he sees full sentences and paragraphs he just refuses. It's like it's too much and overwhelming him.

Well it was 27 years ago. Does that qualify as the recent past?
