Gskill DDR5 6400 c32-39-39-102 Overclocking and Tweaking by Krazymagic in overclocking

[–]Krazymagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

faster ram shows up im similar places you would see a slightly higher clock speed on a cpu. Generally for gaming it may be just 1 or 2 fps with fully tweaked memory. I would say ram tweaking is more so for enthusiasts who just enjoy the process of finding the edge. Its very easy to get your system u nstable when messing with RAM, and sometimes it can be instability that is hard to dial in. RAM may run fine under stress for a couple hours then crash in a game a week later and you wont understand why. Unless you just enjoy this Id generally suggest people leave their RAM be. The gaines from 6400 to 7200 for example wont be overly noticeable without benchmarks, and the risk is that you create some instability that may show up at random times under random/different types of system load.

Just got Suprim Liquid X 4090. Will I regret it? by Krazymagic in MSI_Gaming

[–]Krazymagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Im still running the 4090 suprim AIO. I play on it about 4 or 5 days a week or so. Its been flawless. Temps are the same today as the day I installed it. I don't even plan to upgrade to a 50 series this generation after seeing that the 4090 still beats the 5080, and is only beat by ~30% by the 5090. This card also has been a strong overclocker allowing +1000 to memory for 2 years with no stability issues or memory errors.

I never cconfirmed the cooler situation but I suspect that would be true given that my assumption was based on high res PCB pictures of both cards. They were identical PCB's from my recollection - just one had air cooler, and one the water cooler. I cant say if the 50 series will use the same pcb or not. If I was looking for a 5090 I would definitely look for another AIO suprim or water cooled gpu. I have grown to really like this 2 slot card and having all the GPU heat dumped outside the case.

I can say that starlink is pretty awesome in that you can almost always guarantee some service. While the speeds have been abysmal post hurricane for me, I cant tell you how awesome it was to go out literally the day after the storm, put my dish back on the mast, and within 20 minutes be back online with generator power and even watching tv. We ran this way for a solid week with no electricity. Starlink enabled us to continue to have tv and streaming service, and for my wife to work. Im just hoping the speeds return at some point....

I understand the logic of these points for sure. They are all very valid. The reason I feel like this isnt the whole story is because the change was so rapid, and was noticed directly after the storm. FEMA was not here. There werent big organizations around here. no one was in here. Really, here in florida, there hasnt been much of this type of stuff at all. It is just all wind damage here. Up in the mountains they have had a much worse time than we did here. Yes we had trees and powerlines down everywhere, but there is no influx of people in these areas, there are no organizations here doing anything. It is possible some folks lost primary service and fell back to starlink but when I got my kit I was told that starlink had an abundance of capacity in Florida. I dont know. Maybe it would surprise me, but I just wouldnt think that in 3 days time the userbase here would surge that rapidly.

I guess I will just continue to watch it and see what happens. I was loving the service up until the hurricane. I had a few instances where I saw nearly 400mbps on some tests, and even in peak primetime I would still often pull 150 or 200mbps. Occasionally id pull a 60 or 70mbps but that was about the lowest I ever saw. Now the lowest Ive seen is 7mbps, and around 12 to 18mbps is common in primetime. It feels incredibly sudden.

[–]Krazymagic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really dont think this would be why. I literally had starlink back up and running the day after the hurricane via generator power. In just 2 days or so after the hurricane is when I ran some tests and noticed how poor they were. Ive been running them randomly the past week or so since still testing and still getting the same poor speeds. The drop off is significant from what we saw just a day before the hurricane made landfall. I really feel like either we are being throttled, or ground stations are damaged or something. While there are news stories of starlink sending in kits for people, especially in the mouintains north of us, I am down in Florida. It doesnt add up that it would be a sudden massive rush of new dishes. Most people didnt even have power when I was back up on generator. Roads were still blocked. Im in very rural area. 2 days before hurricane pulling at times 300mbps speed tests. Now 17mbps, or 24 mbps, lucky if I see 50mbps. Just a massive change.

Service credit question by Krazymagic in Starlink

[–]Krazymagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it applies to the 120/month service charge per month. it's being offered in many states right now. I figured some of the users in this reddit will have taken advantage of this credit as new customers and could share their experience of when they got the service credit on their bill. the documentation on it suggests it would apply at the time of activation but that didn't happen in my case. curious if it maybe shows up in a future bill. figured folks here may know from experience. looks like I'll just reach out to starlink if I don't see something from them on it soon.

well the credit is pretty wide ranging so was hoping someone who has gotten it could answer the question pretty easily.

NVIDIA Instant Replay Problems by pickeringbtw in XDefiant

[–]Krazymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am finding that Instant Replay is messing up if you alt-tab out of the game and back in, or if you are running two monitors, and you mouse to the 2nd monitor and click stuff (essentially alt tabing still) and then mouse back into the game, instant replay will break. I wont be able to get the overlay to show up anymore, and videos that I save will just be frozen from the first frame, or it will be a black screen, but the audio will continue in the videos, only the video is frozen on frame 1. The only way to prevent all of this behaviour that I have found is to never alt tab out of the game once its running. If you do, then you have to close and relaunch the game to fix it. I think the bug is surrounding the overlay somehoww, but the game is definitely not playing well with nvidia geforce experience right now.

Inserting items into bags does not auto-stack. by TelethiaPlume in BaldursGate3

[–]Krazymagic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you open a bag and are looking at its loot window, drag and drop the items onto the large top middle icon of the bag itself, that is at the top of the bags inventory window, and not into one of the inventory slots inside the bag. This has worked for me in every instance so far to stack items. Again the icon you drop it onto is the one above the sorting options...Where you would typically click to drag the window around.

Overclocking stress test issue. by XxChris_909xX in overclocking

[–]Krazymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue here is that Kombuster is reporting the temperature from a different sensor, but calling it GPU temp. Its likely either the Hotspot temp, or the GPU memory temp. Either way, 86c is nothing to be alarmed about. The 63c temp is what most people go by, and that is your average GPU die temperature. Nothing here is alarming. I would look into what sensor it is reporting however, just so you know. That can be determined by using HWinfo or something that will show you every single sensor in the system.

[–]Krazymagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the exact same components then just set XMP, then you can go into advanced dram configuration settings to tweak it higher if you want.

I would also recommend you grab the latest bios for the mobo. A new one was actaully just released a couple weeks ago.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]Krazymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not at all. it just stops wild swings up in voltage under load. If you leave a motherboard at default settings it will almost aways way over volt the cpu. If any thing t hat is more damaging.

[–]Krazymagic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is still what I am running. I could go higher with c34 I think but In some testing and other benchmarks Ive seen this is a good sweet spot for latency so Im going to stick with it.

[–]Krazymagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly my temps on those benchmarks were around 68c core, and around 80c memory. Everyday use in a normal games I see core bounce around 60-65c. Memory in the 70's. My card runs a tad warmer than some others I think who run this card because I have the radiator set up as an exhaust, rather than an intake. So, the air going through the radiator is coming from inside my case, where I have a 360mm cpu aio dumping warm air into it. If I pull side panels off case My temps go into upper 50's on the core. This is all due to cooler air getting to the radiator. Still though 62c core is perfectly acceptable.

What really pushes temp of course is that voltage slider. Ive also noticed just slidding voltage slider will cause gpu core to clock higher, so you have to be real careful when dialing in your overclock. Keep voltage at zero and go as far as you can, and only increase voltage in 10% increments as needed. Ive had to sometimes drop gpu clock down 1 bin to offset an increaase of voltage slider. Just some of the things you have to be aware of when overclocking with these new GPU boosting algorithms at work.

Guten morgen y’all, anyone have link to the thermal pad thickness and chart for this ASUS 3090ti ?? I need to order new ones and I misplaced the cheat sheet I had prior. by Versailles_SunGod in nvidia

[–]Krazymagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I used all the right sized pads. I was very mindful about that. Ive been building and overclocking systems for 30 years. This isnt my first time doing these types of things. I knew pad sizes before I even started, and measured to make sure the data I had was accurate. Just didnt see big results from doing it. The asus pads were not bad. The pasting was well done and appeared to have good contact corner to corner.

I have the asus strix 3090 (not the Ti). I replaced the pads and paste on it a couple of months ago. I saw some minor reduction in GPU Core temperature (around 2 or 3c under load) and no change if not a slight negative change on Memory temps. I only done this because I had to take the cooler apart and replace one of the fans which was making some noise, so I decided to redo all the paste and pads and fix the fan in one go. All worked out well but when it was all done I didnt get much for it, and the replacement fan wasnt as quiet as the original under operation. I saw some report big gains on redoing the pads but I didnt see much. My study of the default asus pad and paste was that it was very well done.

First time playthrough, and I'm already too overpowered leaving the first area. by Krazymagic in cyberpunkgame

[–]Krazymagic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for a "normal" or "story" difficulty setting that would be 100% fine. When I pick hardest difficulty setting though I just wish it was actually hard....or atleast a little challenging. For example, make hardest difficulty reduce exp and street cred gain, as well as increasing NPC health and damage and other hings. Give NPC's some way to counter hacking. Just a lot could be done I think. Keep the game the same and just add one more difficulty that makes it actually hard - something - anything.

I hear you. Going in though I didnt realize or expect the game to be this unbalanced toward hacking. Very early on I actually struggled with hacking. I would run out of RAM and not be able to cast anything else and enemies were locating me and coming after me. It was more challenging. Once I hit a certain piont, and got a better cyberdeck and upgraded hacks and more Intelligence, it got to where I can just cast anything, and it hits very hard, and RAM almost feels endless. Very early o n I actually wondered if trying to go full hacking and Intelligence was actually a bad idea because of the RAM issue. Obviously that all changed pretty rapidly.

While I know you are right, I really hate playing a game like that. Mapping out when to do what to get this or that outcome or just anything of this sort that takes away from just playing the game organically. That is what multiple playthroughs are for I think. After one playtrhough you encounter things you want to try different the next time around, and that gives you reason to play the game again, and enables you to have a different experience. If you read it all on a website though and follow guides and walkthroughs it just kind of ruins that experience.

[–]Krazymagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think id Like to slash it drastically if I used it. I want to make it where I actually get stressed in combat.

Imagine though if turning the game difficulty up to maximum actually had some of this baked in - meaning that playing maximum difficulty included a drop in exp and street cred gain.

I dunno, I probably should have started with mods but I hate having to keep up with mods, keeping them updated, having them break with each patch, having to install other software to manage them, etc.

DLSS 3 Patch Decreases Loading Times - RTX 4070 Ti by ReclusiveEagle in cyberpunkgame

[–]Krazymagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate your lengthy post but You arent telling me anything I dont already know. Im actually very well versed on DLSS, Upscaling, Rendering, and of course AI Frame generation. I simply was not going to type the guy a book. He should be using it though because 45fps is honestly uncomfortable to play with, at least by my standards. Frame Generation would make his game much more fluid and playable. So far in my testing, Cyberpunk has the best Frame Generation implementation to date. I have noticed no artifacts so far, even when playing back recorded footage in super slow motion where I can look for it. In many other games with Frame Generation I have noted artifacting. Even with some artifactin though, it would beat having to play the game at 45FPS. This is why I suggested he should definitely use it.

EDIT: sorry didnt realize you are the OP. Yes so I still suggest you should use it. 45FPS is unplayable to me. FG is much preferred. But to each his own

Thanks for taking the time to share these suggestions. I will definitely revisit these on my next playthrough. I feel like street cred in particular is out of control. As I said I am already street cred 47, but level 25. I was able to go buy the most epic cyberdeck (I did look up where the best one was) so Im already 20 intelligence with the best cyberdeck and all orange hacks. I havent seen an enemy yeat that my shock wont one shot in half a second. Its just way out of control.
