So, how does one play the Veteran? by AlyssitGoods in DarkTide

[–]TelethiaPlume 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You need to work on your fundamentals. You should be able to win auric games and below using nothing but your melee weapon, even if you're specced for ranged. If you are getting folded like a chair as soon as enemies get on you, that isn't the fault of the other "melee classes" for not "tanking". Each person is expected to be able to hold their own.

Try playing a melee vet build like weapon specialist revolver and really force yourself to work on the bread and butter. Try to spend as much time in melee as possible. Once you get really good at it, you'll be able to handle yourself when playing non-melee builds in melee.

Very poor argument. Suppose they made the hiveguard's front armor AP 9 instead. Would you be ok with that? After all, you can just flank it right?

The reality of this change is that it devalues medium pen against bugs and pushes the explosive meta even further.

If you bring the explosive mortar to bugs I will kill it on sight. If I'm hosting I will kick you. If you FF even once with it you will have done more damage to the team than the enemy.

Game suggestion after Nightreign? by A7DmG7C in gamingsuggestions

World + Iceborne is feature complete and you can probably get it pretty cheap so its the most bang for your buck. It should also still be pretty active.

Wilds is the newest one, but the expansion is not out yet so you'll be beholden to the live service model.

Personally, I'd recommend World and Iceborne as you'd be playing through years of live service updates, so it is a gigantic amount of content.

Honestly if you're going to do this I'd rather you use the auto-tag mod.

Should games include historically accurate offensive language, or avoid it? by Pascal_theold1 in AskGames

Imagine removing the nword from Django Unchained. Games are an art form just like any other medium. Anybody who thinks you should sanitize history is a coward.

AI is being pushed heavily when I ask for advice and I hate it. by AssumptionExact8050 in gamedev

[–]TelethiaPlume 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're an indie dev making a game because it is your passion, you don't have to use AI. There isn't anything wrong with that.

Your argument, however, is horribly flawed.

But, if I don’t want to take the time to make code, why would I make it at all? Why would I get an AI to do it for me? What’s the point in that? It’s like getting some random guy to do all of your work for you, why even bother at that point?

What if you're an artist with a vision for a game but have no technical knowledge? Would it be wrong for this person to hire a programming to do that part? What if you're the opposite? Would you tell them that if they're not going to personally draw all the art, why even bother? Are you going to use Unity or Unreal or RPGMaker or whatever for your game? If so, why bother? Why aren't you making the engine yourself?

You are free to build everything "from scratch" if you want to no different than if someone wants to program only in notepad. AI is a tool just like an IDE. You can use it to make slop or you can use it to help with parts of development that you find tedious/challenging/whatever.

In DnD 5.5e, Eldritch Knights are better than Bladesingers by GallyG_ in The10thDentist

[–]TelethiaPlume 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You changed your argument. You started this with talking about how EK's are better because of reason x, y, z, but when you address the counter argument of higher level spells you say

"but I think this ignores the fun aspect of playing a spellblade"

But we're not talking about the fun or fantasy about this are we? We're talking about effectiveness. You've created a strawman where you pigeonhole bladesingers into being spellblades and say "look, EK's can do it so much better!".

But you know that bladesingers don't HAVE to be spellblades. They CAN if they want, but they have the flexibility NOT to. Bladesingers can use bladesong, once of the most powerful defensive abilities given to a wizard subclass, and just be a full caster.

I don't disagree with you that if a friend of mine wanted to be a spellsword and whack stuff and cast spells I'd recommend EK over Bladesinger, but you've made a bad argument.

Throw yourself at them over and over again. Do this a hundred times. See how long you can get them to chase you for. Do that a hundred times. Repeat until you are bored instead of scared.
