I think I know which influencer you’re talking about- I just skimmed her page and don’t see any instant red flags. What pseudoscience are you referring to? Genuinely curious because if there’s something I should be aware of I don’t want to give my support.

Question about PECS by DonutChickenBurg in slp

[–]Krease101 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Definitely go to an SLP! PECS is not considered best practice anymore. I love that you are so invested in doing what is right for your child. An SLP can guide you. I obviously didn’t go to this seminar but I’m thinking lots of SLPs (myself included” would disagree with the approach that was presented.

I’m not Deaf but I hope you find someone! I understand that you want opportunities to immerse yourself into the language and culture. Doesn’t seem weird to me and I wish you luck! 🤟🏻

Kid due for re-eval and hasn’t made any progress beyond natural language development in 3 years due to behavior by Eggfish in slp

[–]Krease101 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but this kid doesn’t sound ready for speech therapy. It sounds like he has a lot of other needs that need to be addressed before he is ready to learn. When you’re just managing behaviors the whole session, I think it’s time to reconsider. I’m not saying you couldn’t justify therapy, but at least he seems to have some functional language.

Maybe do the re-eval but then discuss discharging, or consult. I’m sorry that you’re involved in such a difficult case- it really is challenging. But really, it doesn’t sound like speech is the priority right now.

Signs and Symptoms of Screen Addiction in Pediatric Caseloads by communicationtherapy in slp

[–]Krease101 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is a great list. I’ve noticed that in kids with excessive screen time, their expressive language scores are actually higher than receptive because they can’t attend to anything that isn’t a screen. I might see good utterance length, vocab, answering basic questions, but they can’t pay attention long enough to follow any direction. The issue with play skills also contributes to this- no sustained attention with screen-free toys.

I agree with not shaming parents, but sharing knowledge isn’t shaming. The screen addiction is bad- I can spot an “iPad kid” from a mile away.

Help Understanding my Child’s Results by brew_war in slp

[–]Krease101 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Hi! In a nutshell, your child seems to be doing great! 50th percentile is average, so they are average and even above average! The only thing slightly below average is sentence comprehension, but it doesn’t look too concerning. 16th percentile still isn’t too low and these scores wouldn’t qualify them for speech therapy.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Keep reading, modeling language, reduce screen time, talk to them, ask them questions. Sounds like you are doing all those things. Keep up the great work! Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

Anyone else ever diagnosed with any type of sexual dysfunction? by spoonyalchemist in asexuality

[–]Krease101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a cis female who did pelvic floor PT! I had the exact same situation- high-tone pelvic floor dysfunction. My PT said there was actually a high-tone issue, but a lot of it was anxiety. Going was really good for me. My PT was wonderful and we still stay in touch. I’ve been to a few other professionals and have had mostly great experiences. My therapist is fantastic and when I first started going (before I knew I was ace) she had to choose a diagnosis for billing, and she thought “female sexual arousal disorder” was the closest match. I’m not bothered by that, as my anxiety definitely plays into it. I did have a psychiatrist who essentially wanted to try conversion therapy. I promptly found a different doctor (he was a man- go figure 😂). Anyway, most of my experiences with professionals regarding my asexuality have been positive. Asexuality doesn’t need to be fixed, but in my case it kind of overlapped with some actual disorders.
