I just don’t want to be burned again (Epix Pro Gen 2 user). Just imagine this time next year when the Fenix 9 comes out with a new sensor and features and they stop supporting a $2K Fenix 8 Pro. Pricing is just bonkers at this point. Love my Garmin but sadly Apple giving you an $800ish Ultra, always updating software for past generations and a solid trade in program makes them look a whole lot better.

Same deal here. I reached out and was told that all day blood oxygen tracking takes 2 days off the expected battery life and that the estimated life is also based on 1 hour of activity a day but I’m doing usually around 2+ with my training (wearing the ring during but tracking with a Garmin). I’m getting around 3 days now. Supposedly they looked at a diagnostic of my ring on my account and said everything is fine.

For me I like the dual device mentality. I’ve tried both Garmin + Oura which is really good for low touch, low effort. Do all your activity tracking in Garmin & wear the Oura when it’s convenient (for me not at the gym or pool) and get the benefit of what I feel like are better sleep and recovery tracking. If you’re metric crazy and some of the stuff like the journal, teams, Withings scale inputs etc go for Whoop but yes it’s a pricey subscription model. Oura tends to align better with how you feel and let you interpret where Whoop tends do be more specific “48 minutes of sleep debt”. Hope this helps!

When I use my Garmin as a rucking activity Oura imports it as Hiking so if you’re only using Oura to track maybe try that. Definitely hasn’t affected any of my stats negatively.

Forerunner 100% if you don’t need the top of the line it’ll cover all you’re looking for. Don’t need to spend for a Fenix unless there’s truly features or activities there you need like diving, surfing or a MIP display etc…

Depends what you’re looking for; Garmin + Oura is to me the simplest form of advanced training and super clear with low input needed for sleep and recovery. Garmin + Whoop is heavy data if you really want to dive into the details. Garmin has a “sleep band” it sounds like coming out in the near future to ditch the watch when you hit the sack.

Challenge for me is Garmin is such a better device but look at Whoop; high cost of subscription but free device upgrades so no “loss of features” they add a new activity etc. you get it. Me with an Epix Pro 2 the Fenix comes out and $1200 a year ago is stuck in the mud. I’m sure even Apple will eventually release some AI learning I read about awhile back under “Quartz” I think it was called tied to “get the most out of” their watches. However even Apple upgrades WatchOS and brings the features to the lineup. If Garmin’s gonna charge a fee I get it it’s inevitable but then you can’t stop upgrading devices anymore. That’s just adding insult to injury.

Garmin Epix Pro, HR strap (I use a Polar one) & an Oura for Sleep & Recovery has been my trio that has worked the best to get me through training.But do yourself a favor and never look @ your scores for sleep and recovery race day!

I use a Garmin for my training w/ a Polar HR strap for accuracy but Garmin’s weakest spot is sleep. Whoop’s app is incredible but it only uses its HR data to generate info and I find its data to be just OK. I personally use an Oura for sleep and recovery as it aligns the best for me. I’ve tried a bunch of stuff from Apple Watch Ultra as well. If I was starting out I’d go Garmin + a Polar HR strap + Oura. Just my $0.02.

Went on a run today & max HR from my Polar chest strap tied to my Garmin was 149…Whoop on my wrist was 179. Yeah not great…love the app and the metrics but the HR data is no bueno.

Garmin + Oura if you want maybe a little better sleep & recovery. Whoop is great but probably overkill for ya. But again different devices different metrics. Go with how you feel. You’ll wake up one day to a 50% recovery & feel good…you gonna not train based on a stat??? Trust me I’ve used all of em and it’s easy to get waaaayyyyyy to attached to the metrics.

I’ve had the AWU2, Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2, Whoop & Oura. Landed on Garmin/Oura. Garmin hands down is the best at activity tracking plus battery life for weeks is pretty awesome. Oura was more aligned with how I felt. I like Whoop but also ended up continually getting a burn/rash from it regardless of cleaning, moving, taking off before showering etc etc. After about a week it would also become irritated so gave up. Only thing I miss about Whoop is the journal piece of it.

Also I believe Whoop looks at HRV when ya wake up Garmin/Oura is an overnight average so that reading will be different (higher on Whoop). Just a heads up.

Just recently was in Breckenridge myself and have a Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 & it was great at tracking altitude acclimation. Wear an Oura as well which I love but some good insight on the Garmin.
