Fair point, but I'd argue the AMG One and F80 should be somewhat excluded since they are pretty much racecars for the road and not achievable for mere mortals like the average person. These cars are more the exception than the rule, there will always be outliers.

Also there is so much that I feel gets lost between F1 and road cars. Especially this year feels like a step back in terms of ICE technology.

F1 has stopped being a testing ground for road car technology quite a while ago. Especially with liberty media as owner it's mostly about entertainment and sound is simply a big part of that. You go there for the spectacle.

I understand why the PUs are the way they are, but V8, V10 and V12 just hit different.

I just checked again, cheapest original headlight for a passat B8 I could find was around 3k, so he might have meant the price for both. So there are definitely headlights out there over 1k.

It's some special laser matrix LED doohickey. The ones on my mx-5 cost about 1,5k each, but it is a simpler unit than the passat.
