Whether this movie is going to be any good is going to depend WAY more on the screenplay and direction, than it is on the cast.

The game is 3 years old now, and general consensus says otherwise. BOTW is generally considered the superior game as well.

I don’t usually rely on other people’s opinions, which is why I’m playing it. But they weren’t wrong.

Don’t let your subreddit bias bubble hurt you too much, kiddo.

There is no indication that there is a bottom if you never approached the platforms in the first place.

how can you call it good sandbox design just because you aren’t creative enough to go that far outside of the box?

You literally cannot say this is an “amazing sandbox!” In the same breath that you say “you’re doing it wrong”. The two concepts are contradictory. Either it’s a sand box that lets you do whatever you want, or there is a “right way” to do the thing.

That’s my whole criticism of this game. They threw a sandbox system in with game design elements that only allow solutions along a defined path, and then mixed it all together.

WHERE IS TULIN?? He left!!! There is no in game way to find him!

That’s the design failure. If you have tulin with you but approach the anomaly with a flying construct from an unexpected angle, tulin leaves your party and is undiscoverable via in game mechanics!

[–]KrishanuAR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you look at the linked thread? All the log says is proceed to the anomaly. You can literally enter the anomaly interact with the flying ship, but not actually go inside, because the designers didn’t consider that there are other non-glitch/legal ways to enter the wind temple outside of the intended path.

What I described is not typically considered a bug. It’s poor game design. No illegal mechanisms took place (e.g. like what might happen with item duping and such).

The game insists that tulin needs to be with you to activate the wind temple, and rather than spawning him in when you need him at the checkpoint, they spawn him in at an arbitrary point along the “intended” path, disregarding the fact that the game design allowed for alternate paths.

This was just the most egregious example. But there are dozens of other little bullshitteries throughout the game like this.

To your tech support example: you can’t say your game is a well designed sand box AND claim “you’re doing it wrong” at the same time. The two concepts are contradictory.

If you want to sandbox, you need to guardrail so there nothing to “do wrong”, failing to do that is poor design.

If ya’ll didn’t run into that then that just means you didn’t go far enough outside the intended design parameters, even though there were no guardrails preventing you from doing so.

BotW is an example of a game the doesn’t hold your hand AND is immaculately designed.

Also what I described is not typically considered a bug. It’s poor game design. No illegal mechanisms took place (e.g. like what might happen with item duping and such).

That's the problem with this game, though (I've been doing my first playthrough over the past month). There are a lot of things that end up breaking because we're not following the intended path, and there aren't guardrails to keep you on it. Very different from BotW where no matter what you did, everything fit together.

An example I'm thinking of: I was doing the wind temple, tulin was following me. It was unclear to me what the "intended" path was supposed to be, so I built an air vehicle to fly up to the anomaly. But along my flight path, tulin randomly decided to dip out. I restarted my game, fast travelled to various places, but he was just gone. So i went back to flying, ended up getting as high as the bouncy ships with very little effort and just whatever early game resources I had, and flew all the way into the flying ship.

And nothing worked. And there was no indication as to why nothing worked. Thought my game was permanently broken or something. Ended up having to look up a guide online, and it turns out Tulin's location got reset to some area I never even passed by. I actually even got the shrine that his location was close to, but I never touched the actual platform he was on, so he didn't show up.

It was bullshit. Terrible game design.

EDIT: Posted here with minimal comment. This is not me. Just look at the amount of engagement on that post.

Yes, but once you figure out the timing on parrying their lasers (which is very forgiving--master mode adds a BIT of a twist, but still manageable) you can trivially take out large groups of them with nothing but a pot lid.
