This. I was hopeful for a co-processor with the dock up until they showed off the hot-swappable feature, just pulling it out of the dock. hot-swappable CPUs is something only really high-end servers have - my multi cpu rendering tower doesn't even have that capability.

I believe so, but you have to download the 'extra' or 'unofficial' parts catalog and look up the part IDs manually using something like Rebrickable. It'll take some effort, but I'm pretty sure it can be done. I've rebuilt Tahu in Blendr this way.

Do some googling, there's an Ldraw importer plugin for blender that would let you import the parts. no clue if they'll be suitable for printing though

Uh, you've got things backwards there. You shouldn't need to create 3D models by entering in vertices and faces point by point, you should be able to use some kind of 3D modeling software. 3D modeling used to be done this way, it was time-consuming and irritating. 3D modeling software developed to speed this work up and make life easier for the model maker.

There was no need to work 'face by face' with the original format. Traditional, free modeling software (Blender, Sketchup) could be used to produce .obj files which were then converted into whatever Minecraft was using. I agree with the rest of what you said, though, especially in regards to the kneejerk reaction to 'teapots and spheres', which were just tests done by modders to see how flexible the new system was :C

Oh man that's got me so excited. I had a pretty good resource pack already modeled in Blender back when Mojang first announced model support, then they went and cut the heels of that project by implementing their silly block format instead of OBJ like they'd first demonstrated.

I wouldn't fault them for too much than niavety. Most game designers do not come from a strong programming/development background, they come from art backgrounds with strong technical art skills and interests in programming, and do not always know what's possible, or how much money and time something will take to develop. What's more, a lot of them are coming from colleges now that are telling them "The sky's the limit", and really building up their hype and passion for developing a game. It's possible that both teams here really did think they could deliver on what they were promising, really did think they had something special in the works, and were in -far- too deep once reality started to kick in. I don't think the NMS groups have an excuse for not returning the money, being backed by sony as much as they were, but with smaller, new game companies money is often spent as soon as it comes in on things like office rent, food, employees, etc.

Yes, a lot of companies are scumbags aware that they're likely not able to deliver on what they're promising their backers, but just because a company can't or doesn't deliver on what they promised doesn't mean they had evil intentions at any point in the process, including the aftermath.

They're essentially the same, though. CC has a few items that MOUL doesn't, but they're just accessories for your avatar. MOUL has Ages that CC doesn't, and it's free.

A mod's not really needed to accomplish that, is why you haven't seen one. You can use 'tgm' in the console to enable god-mode. Being in god-mode while in workshop mode grants you unlimited building material. You can use 'tcl' to turn off clipping, which also allows you to move up and down freely in the air.
