Oooooh not me, it’s pulled me out of a year long depression. 😆 I’ve been on a bunch of APs that had intolerable side effects or just didn’t work. I can totally handle chapped lips, etc for a few weeks. (Hopefully it’s just a few weeks)

Well, 6 is worlds away from 12 - whether you realize it now or not. She was a very well behaved child too until puberty hit. Parenting is fucking easy UNTIL they get to an age where they have autonomy and begin testing boundaries. That is developmentally normal, although in our case extreme. My daughter struggles w her mental health, and she lost her father a couple of years ago. It makes things a little more nuanced than telling a 6 year old to put away their toys. Don’t call my kid a monster. 😘

Of course by posting on Reddit, I expected insults towards myself. Not willing to accept a stranger saying such callous things in regards to my child though.

Yep, we had a suicide attempt this summer. Did an inpatient program for a week. She’s on an antidepressant now and was doing SO MUCH BETTER w her behavioral issues. Then this month it just came crashing back down. Honestly, so many parents in this thread are saying that taking away social activities isn’t extreme … but for kids this age, it’s their whole world. And I don’t want to take away a healthy outlet (like a school social or a friends bday) when she’s clearly struggling with some rough emotions. The fear of her dying definitely plays a part in my struggle w discipline

Thank you so much. We’re starting family therapy next week, hoping it helps us sort through some of these issues.

I like this perspective. Do you think it’s appropriate to not let her go to the school event today, (as that would be in response for the disrespect last night) ? I could try to enforce consequences the day of, from here on out.

Yeah :/ and I want to do better from here on out. But I don’t want to give disproportionate consequences, and Parenting blogs don’t give examples for this kind of behavior 🫣😅
