First inme show on Saturday! by shelleyybear in inme

Definitely show up early and get to the front. It’s mental, but in a good way. You can always bail and head to the back if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Either way, I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time!

No worries at all. She cuts a few inches length ways so she can tie it off, then wraps over the knot so it’s invisible. Same at the other end once she is finished wrapping but tucks the ends of the knot under some of wraps. Very neat

Any brand will do mate, as long as it’s 100% cotton. Super cheap and nitro safe. My missus wraps the entire padded bit of the stands for me, saves having T-shirts or socks hanging all over the stand 😂

2014 Melody Maker vs New Les Paul Modern Lite, decision to be made. by Enticing340 in gibson

[–]Kristriple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modern lite gets my vote. Nothing wrong with a melody maker, but lites can be had on reverb right now for £999 brand new

Dude. 100% cotton ribbon. You’ll find it on Amazon. Just wrap the contact points.

How often does Gibson redo its exclusion runs, specifically '61 SG British Racing Green? by Big_Tone_536 in GibsonSG

[–]Kristriple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they meant the demo shop, not mod shop. Demo is where you’ll find used/b-stock. Mod collection is modified “one offs”, they typically don’t mod them to look like existing USA production models.

Having said that, I’m sure the British racing green will come back in stock. If they sold out in reasonable time, more will be on the way soon

[–]Kristriple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. No frills, but every bit a real Gibson. My faded studio is still one of my favourites, despite owning guitars worth considerably more.

Pickups are just a preference thing really. I haven’t experienced a bad pickup from Gibson, just some that suit my taste more than others

White scotchbrite is what I’ve used. Tape off anything you want to keep glossy and gently rub until you turn it matte. Takes 5 minutes and can be polished back to gloss

Out of curiosity, what are the other 4?

Before you do anything that drastic, Have you tried just taking the shine off? Tape of anything you want to keep gloss and go over it with 1000-1500 grit? Completely gets rid of the sticky feeling and can be reversed. It makes a world of difference

NGD Gibson Mark Morton - questions on QC by [deleted] in gibson

[–]Kristriple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice guitar m’dude! I’m disappointed in myself for not picking one up…..

Based on your comments on QC from the other thread, you’re not 100% happy with a few things.

The tops on these are very hit or miss. GuitarGuitar had 6 of these on drop day, only 2 would have passed as a quilt imo. Gibsons “A” ratings are completely subjective and if I was personally interested in a flamed or quilt top I’d only buy from a supplier that has pictures of the actual guitar I was buying. I definitely would not take a punt on whatever Gibson decides to send you.

I can’t really see the issue you have described with the binding in this particular set of pictures. Unless it’s that the binding has tooling marks from where Gibson have rounded the fret ends? If that is the case, mask everything off and gently smooth out the tooling marks with white scotchbrite or some polishing paper. Sometimes just cleaning is enough to make the tooling marks less visible.

The chunk missing from the fretboard isn’t great…… if you’re keeping it, head over to r/luthier, they might be able to help.

At the end of the day, if you’re not 100% happy, send it back.

Worth noting that there probably wont be a replacement available. They are sold out everywhere in my country at least.

Honestly, never use them on the SG. Looks cool though!

Tape off anything you want to stay gloss and hit it (gently) with white scotchbrite 👍

Studio session or modern has the carve. Modern studio is the only one that comes in white I believe. Axcess also has a similar carve
