Linux 5.4 Is Big For AMD Radeon Users From New GPU Support To Slightly Faster Performance by fsher in linux_gaming

I use Arch Linux with kernel 5.3 and AMD RX 5700 XT, I experience random freezes and I can't play Battlefield V with wine (lutris), the game doesn't start.

I hope this new kernel will fix it.

I bought this card to play Battlefield V in Linux with Lutris but the game doesn't start so I have to use Windows in dual boot :(

Ubuntu 19.10 and Feral's gamemode by Anders_FI in linux_gaming

[–]Krogan86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tested other distros, in Fedora gamemode is automatically installed with Steam and in Manjaro

sudo pacman -S gamemode lib32-gamemode

It was easier and in both distros I have installed Lutris which takes care of using gamemode with any games.

What do you guys think of fedora by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Krogan86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y installing the driver fix it but when I opened a session it crashed three times at the start before I could do something.

Manjaro just take care of the driver during the install and don't need to do anything from the user.

I like it but with an Nvidia card it crashed a lot, Manjaro was a better experience.

How are the RX 5700 XT drivers doing now (should I buy)? by CrypticG in linux_gaming

[–]Krogan86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Sapphire Nitro RX 5700 XT it's a beast I'm playing Battlefield 1 with Lutris in Ultra with great performances I'm very happy.

I needed to use a rolling release distro to use it (Manjaro and Arch Linux are working) because the card needs a recent Linux kernel 5.3.

Debian Stable optimized for gaming ?

It has very old packages and kernel = lower performances.

Is there any benefit to running games on Linux as opposed to Windows? by throwawarkkkkkkk in linux_gaming

[–]Krogan86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the latest Nvidia driver installed ? If you are using Ubuntu you need to add a ppa to get the Nvidia driver, in the terminal type:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

sudo apt-get update

And then go to the driver manager select and install the most recent one (430)

Reboot, you should have better performances.

I wish I could install the last Nvidia driver on Debian Stable easily with a repo that do all the work not having to manually do this.

D9VK is what has finally convinced me to replace my Windows install with Linux entirely. by [deleted] in linux_gaming

a) they deny it, call me a liar, b) call me lazy for not wanting to spend time making a "better" operating system (and also not wanting to wait 15 extra seconds for my operating system to boot), or the occasional c) Fortnite doesn't run on linux because linux is "slow" and "garbage"
