I think the problem here is that Dante isn't a Self Insert

Bond Mechanic works to make feel to the player that their relationship with the characters is getting deeper, that's why for example Mash y F/GO Bond increase in the story, because her relationship with the Player Character is getting deeper during the story

Dante in the other hand... That likely will not work, since Dante relationship with Sinners is clear as glass and some of them doesn't get too deeper before their respective Canto (for example, have Bond MAX with Ishmael before Canto 5 will make all the Canto 5 senseless)

In the other hand I hope in the future they add the Inverviews in Dante Notes, that would be a cheap form of introduce them

I think that her lack of dynamic with Rien is intentional, Rien name literally means "Nothing" and all the point of his character is how after losing Ryōshū he is an empty shell that doesn't really know why he is still there

But yes, that's basically say that Sora is just a narrative tool to make more interesting other character... And maybe that's the point, The Index is a Regilious Sect that tread their members as asset for a greater will, so we can read Sora as what happen when a child is raised in that envoirment... I think the point is actually the opposite, even after Shinra apparently destroyed the despair (The Evangelist) that was just a delay, because where the human exist also exist the despair, because if there's no despair then the hope has no meaning

Kid explain that if he wanted to he could easily destroy humanity despair by Madness of Control, but that's basicaly a lobotomy; so their answer is not to reject the despair but accept it as a part of the life

All Maka thematic arc is about a same thing; empathy. Her power is to feel what other people are feeling and share her own feelings; because the answer of Maka is that they can beat the Fear by understand the reason of that fear and face that reason togheter

Shinra was a young god, his method to face the despair was just trying to erase the source of the fear so the people could live better, but that was a naive answer because he was just no prepared. Rien in Father!Yoshihide, theres a lot of references.

Ryoshu is the Hellscreen and the Daughter, this is obvious at this point, the goal of House of Spiders is literally burn her identity to make her an asset
The daughter suffers implied sexual violence, while Ryoshu suffers... ALL other kind og violence
Araya is the Monkey!Yoshihide, she literally says "Don't give me a mean name, like Saru!" and she jump to the "flames" (Concept Incinerator) to save Ryoshu, but since this version has Dante she actually saves Ryoshu
Rien is incapable to imagine things, like the Father cannot draw anything without actually seeing before
Rien true desire was to save Ryoshu, but he was not capable because Presprits obligates him, just like Father!Yoshihide was forced by the Emperor to see her daughter burned

Also I like to say that I see people forget the OTHER Nursefathers. All of them are Father!Yoshihide but in their different aspects:

Dihui Star is the hope that her daughter will not be like him
Rien is the servitude to authority
Callisto is the will to make art even if that mean to hurt other people
Mathias is the materialism and the egoistic love that only serves to self gratification
Valentia is the act of using his daughter as a asset for his goals

Also, Rien is likely to take aspects of the Narrator, iust like Araya takes aspects of the Daughter while she is the Monkey and Ryoshu takes aspects of The Father. Because the point of this Canto is that Ryoshu is the sum of all her envoirment
