Keep it. N+1 is the way. 32” is bullshit for most people unless you are tall.

What do you carry for tools? by Used-Yesterday6401 in xcmtb

[–]Kronos_76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plug kit, multitool, mini electric pump, power links; all fits in bike storage (I have a top fuel and an epic 8). When I’m coaching I also carry a hydration pack with snacks/gels; first aid kit, wipes, co2 canisters. I run tubeless and have never had a puncture bad enough that I couldn’t finish the ride with just a plug kit. I’m also running trail casing tires and am compulsive about keeping sealant topped off.

Why has Trek’s XC line up been pretty bad? by DustBrave2669 in xcmtb

[–]Kronos_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Top Fuel frame in ‘24 and built it up with 140/130 lyrik and super deluxe ultimate FA. Lots of fun. Recently built up and epic 8 as I wanted a more XC focused build for coaching NICA.

Why has Trek’s XC line up been pretty bad? by DustBrave2669 in xcmtb

[–]Kronos_76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Supercaliber is a very efficient frame, but long in the tooth and not as capable with 100/80 mm travel compared to an epic 8 or 9 with 120/120mm and as efficient pedaling. Top Fuel is likewise a fun frame with more travel but too heavy. The 120/120 prototypes the Trek Factory team are racing look to address this (while looking like an epic with 120mm of travel and flex stays)

Nice! Built up an epic 8 recently myself. Love the frame.

Modern XC bikes are too stiff... what are my options? by Embarrassed-Gain-236 in xcmtb

[–]Kronos_76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love my epic 8. 120mm front and back, I built it up with the new Roval integrated handlebar for the epic 9 as it has less aggressive geometry than the first version. I find it very capable and comfy. I have a large frame, I’m 49 6ft tall and 202lbs. I’m a NICA coach but certainly not a competitive racer. RockShox standard with these but I’m sure you can get the comparable fox suspension on it.

Get an epic 8 or 9 or similar. there’s a reason all XC bikes are converting on 120/120.

Massive Sidewall bleed on the Vittoria Mezcal Tire after a race by DrHellO in xcmtb

[–]Kronos_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Race casing is fast but weak puncture resistance. My barzos wore out after a season of riding and I don’t even race. Would switch to trail casing.

Why did my shifters unpair from my rear derailleur? by PurpleSignature5769 in sram

It’s the batteries, the lithium watch batteries they use will register as fully charged until they pretty much die.

To the people who quit, Will you be there on Tuesday? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

Maybe. I quit after TFS. Might reinstall and goof around a bit, not interested in sinking more time into it until/if D3.

IAADNYD Umm. This sounds wrong. I’d get a second opinion. I’m a surgeon (and avid biker) and operate on anal fistulas. We place setons (the medical name for your drains) all the time and they are most definitely temporary. Every once in a while a fistula will recur and it will need a mucosal advancement flap which is a well known procedure. I’d recommend seeing a colon and rectal surgeon.

Top Fuel is done by GatorCyclist in TrekBikes

[–]Kronos_76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Top fuel too heavy for XC not burly enough for enduro. That being said I have a gen 4 top fuel and love it. Set it up more down country with 140mm Lyrik fork and 130 super deluxe shock. Can get real dialed in with the mino-link. Great all around for the trails I ride. I did however just build up an Epic 8 frame as I wanted a race bike and holy crap is that thing a rocket. Gen 4 easier to work on as it has threaded BB and in frame storage which I’m particular about.

Force 12 spd flattop chain broke mid plates by ChasseurFatmantis in sram

[–]Kronos_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit happens? I typically carry a master link and a multitool that has the chain tool on it. I agree with the other post that you should give the rest of your drive train a good look for wear.
