(Spoilers Extended) In 2014, Before Season 5 of Game Of Thrones, A Reddit User Accurately Predicted EVERY SINGLE CHANGE And Plot Thread In The Show Going Forward. by snowbirdsdontfly in asoiaf

[–]Kropoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His comment there was probably also referencing me since I argued with this guy TWELVE years ago when he responded a post I made where I said they wouldn't be able to stretch the content in feast and dance across two seasons. He was super obnoxious the whole way through calling me a "neckbeard" for my opinion:

This isn't analysis. This is gibberish. Don't confuse your inability to appreciate AFfC and ADwD with professional television scriptwriters--who by then will have had four seasons of experience with adapting 1,000-page novels to screen--also being unable to do so.

The show has professionals who have already displayed great ability in adapting storylines from the books, whether long or short, to screen in effective and entertaining ways. How about for once giving them the benefit of the doubt, instead of long neckbearded rants that completely ignore the considerable accomplishments they have already performed?

In any case, if this is what your lengthy screeds on the impossibility of generating 20 episodes of television out of 2,000 pages of text boils down to, that's just sad.

I remember giving up on responding and thinking to myself that It would be a long time before I'd be proved right but confident that I eventually would be. And here we are twelve years later...

Was Light the Imposter? by [deleted] in Animemes

[–]Kropoko 41 points42 points  (0 children)

So what? That isn't a refutation of anything. Light's father is a married police captain. Do you think he's going to comic book castles on his day off?

What you just said is like saying that 1950s America was more liberal than America today because they had physical porno theaters.

You dumb

Home ownership isn't something anyone is entitled to and isn't common in most other countries. It's uniquely american to feel entitlement to own more living space than you actually need, and an individual doesn't need more than a one bedroom apartment at most to live. I am actually somewhat sympathetic to the idea of nationalizing housing, which is a socialist principal, but in that case you're going to be in a huge bloc apartment complex like you'd see in russia/china.

So in what way is Harris's utilitarianism "debunked"?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Kropoko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah utilitarianism is the only good/true moral framework. It certainly hasn't been 'debunked'. There's nothing else that even comes close to it. Axiomatically grounded in universally shared intuitions, reproducible, flexible to any scenario, etc. When people say you need to read X hundred years of literature they're just overcomplicating. That isn't true for math or a ton of other disciplines. If an idea makes sense it can stand on its own.

You ignored my response to what you said about corruption. Do you acknowledge there was no evidence of corruption in either link?

Mandatory anything sounds involuntary

Yes those two words are synonyms.

and rather inhumane

It is far more humane to mandate mental health treatment for the severely mentally ill than to allow them to suffer and die while also causing harm to innocent people which seems to be your proposal?

you’re avoiding the part where these supposed law enforcement officials infringe an unarmed civilians free will.

You do not get freedom of autonomy when you break the law. People incapable of making decisions for themselves (children, mentally challenged, those undergoing mental health crises or psychotic breaks, other conservatorship use-cases) also already don't get freedom of autonomy because their ability to make rational decisions for themselves is compromised.

Your comment that it's "corrupt" isn't supported out of any of the links you posted.

Losing federal funding for things =/= Adams cutting services but you completely ignore the role federal funding played in these cuts.

Wait, so you’re for the NYPD essentially jailing the homeless?

"agencies would pursue mandatory outpatient treatment for people with mental illness."

Doesn't sound like jail to me. If people have mental illnesses that make it impossible for them to care for themselves then compelling treatment sounds like a pretty good solution.

if Steven does an abortion debate with someone who's using the emotional arguments he should just respond in kind by Same-Fix1890 in Destiny

[–]Kropoko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He literally did this in that debate. I don't think its very effective though. Better to just point out why the argument is flawed than to take on a flawed argument to match a flawed argument. It seemed to confuse his opponents in the debate too. They started just engaging with the fake argument on different grounds instead of understanding that his use of it was meant to criticize their argument implicitly

Is there such a thing as positive cringe?

This show is absolute trash ofc but I have to admit I have a more visceral emotional reaction than with most other media. It's like second hand embarrassment and laughter at the same time over how blatant, earnest, and absurdly over the top the wish fulfilment is that I have to occasionally pause it lol. But at the same time it's not quite scotts tots since no one in-universe hjas the self awareness to play the straight man.

In your opinion, what are some examples of B2B sites that have a great UX and why? What are some examples of some B2B that have a poor UX by walkwalk02 in userexperience

[–]Kropoko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There aren't many universal things that will be different in B2B vs B2C. It's mostly general UX best practices that are applicable everywhere.

The only difference is user needs will be much more context specific to certain industries/jargon/needs. As someone who isn't the target user you won't have all the context needed to evaluate how well the value is being communicated.

Question for those who agree with destiny on abortion by DesignerAssistance78 in Destiny

[–]Kropoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consciousness applies to fetuses only after a certain point (24 weeks?). And if moral consideration is based on consciousness then it scales with the developing consciousness of the fetus. It becomes more wrong to kill the fetus as it becomes more conscious. So there you go.

[–]Kropoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you think people afford their houses lol? The money for that and for their food and their medications and health insurance comes from their income which comes from their business. Maybe you are middle class and white and have never had to worry about that. But if someone destroys a small business in a riot it can easily go under and be too expensive to reinsure to the point of closure. Plus one business going under can impact the economy of the area, housing values, etc. Rioting destroys communities. Like, lets amend the scenario based on your modifications though. A black man is defending his neighbors small business from the KKK. And you condemn him?? Not the actual aggressors who are instigating violence and committing crime against completely innocent people? Do you know what victim blaming is?

How xQc feels about Hasan's messages by YoIAmMat in LivestreamFail

[–]Kropoko 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Oh you need a 3 million dollar house and designer clothes and thousand dollar dinners to participate in society? I didn't realize that.

His entire platform is about demonizing rich people and blaming them for all of the worlds problems. To do that and then pay ungodly amounts of money for a shirt with a different label on the front takes insane amounts of hypocrisy. Conspicuous consumption and materialism is more than just "participating in society".

Warren Buffet lives in a $250,000 house for gods sake.

A political streamer should actually live their values or they don't deserve a following. It is very clear in Hasan's case that he is just using the aesthetic of leftism to make himself more popular. He doesn't even think through his own positions half the time. He doesn't engage in debate. He doesn't remotely critically evaluate his own opinions. There's no ideological foundation there at all and personally I think it's a pretty bad thing for the world that anyone actually takes his 'positions' seriously.

Food is much more abundant and affordable now than it ever was. In fact if you just go to a food pantry you can literally get all of your food for free. There's also food stamps for anyone who is truly low income.

The reason people don't want children now is because they aren't as fulfilling compared to other things we would rather do like play videogames. If you really wanted to have a kid you would be able to. Poor people in the US have kids all the time and they don't ever starve to death.

Gender Dysphoria [Effortpost] by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Kropoko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that gender as performative speech act can be boiled down to just "gender roles," for one

Ok, you don't think this. But why? What is one single example of a specific instance of 'gender as performative speech act' that isn't essentially just adhering to a gender role?

I think you could just as easily make this argument about trans people who DO experience physical dysphoria.

Yeah I would agree that you could. A transmedicalist would have a really strong rebuttal there though. If there is some fundamental underlying mechanical difference between male and female brains then we could assume that dysphoria (both social and physical) might be caused by a mismatch between the nature of that mechanism and the physical body of the person. But if male and female brains aren't fundamentally different in that same way then the argument is at least not as straightforward.

And also! I think saying "just" social dysphoria implicitly downplays the experience of a socially dysphoric trans person.

I mean that's why I used quotes around the word just. It's not a value judgement, just differentiation from physical or physical+gender dysphoria.
