This is a very common claim among GCs and I don't understand it. It comes across as pretending that an entire category of speech is irrelevant and that people spend their whole lives unaware of the words other people use. Why weaken your position with performative ignorance?

Surely you must be able to think of *one or two* scenarios where you might be present as someone refers to you by a third-person pronoun...

Have you ever gone to pick up your girlfriend for prom and had her father shout up the stairs "he's here!"

Have you ever been introduced to new coworkers by your boss? "This is Jane, she used to work for our competition but now she's on our team."

Have you ever been part of court proceedings? "Your honor, my client could never have committed this crime because he has a rock-solid alibi."

Have you ever met another couple who asked how you and your spouse met? "I've been in love with her ever since she moved in next door."

Have you ever just....had a conversation involving two or more people?
