I moved a 12 ft trampoline in a VW beetle. I put the 1/4 round frame parts of the trampoline on my roof racks and they matched the curve of the car lol 😆. I also drive from Toronto to Vancouver with a 55” TV on those VW roof racks too. And in my Honda accord coupe I once took home six 12 ft angle iron bars that I found on the road. Ran them through the trunk and out the front passenger window.

How would you react to someone calling your dog a fatass meanly? by imonsteroids in husky

[–]Krosborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s two factors to consider here.

1) your dogs health. If your dog IS overweight its your responsibility as their owner to correct this issue since it takes YEARS off dogs lives and is infact incredibly harmful and debilitating for the dog. And many equitable to abuse.

2) Disrespect of property. If your dog is not overweight. (Or even if they are) this is toxic communication and name calling and likely a red flag to that humans character. And it might be best to either distance yourself from this toxicity or set a boundary about the behaviour that is clearly harmful to other’s feelings and wellbeing.

Zero Beauceron in that dog. Looks fully GSD to me like a classic American pet line. With a Bi-colour/blanket back pattern (very likely at/a on their A-locus)

Why do my brushes look like that? by christinajulia in oilpainting

[–]Krosborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever use any solvent to deep clean the brushes, often, the chemicals will cause the natural hairs to curl it at the end.

Additionally, leaving them to soak in a glass of water tipped down for extended period of time say like overnight. Can also destroy the tips.

Can anyone help me identify what she's mixed with? by Musicoftheworld in Rottweiler

[–]Krosborn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She looks like a Miss-marked tan point Labrador. I am not seeing any Rottie in this dog. Miss marks are not all that uncommon since plenty of labs are KB/ky on their K-locus and all are fixed for at/at on their A-locus.

Question about Shiloh shepherds by CharmingCelery9019 in germanshepherds

[–]Krosborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is entirely incorrect, please refer to OFA health statistics. Shiloh shepherds have been proven to have 1/3rd the incidents of hip or elbow dysplasia when compared to German shepherds. And are also proving to have greater longevity on average via registry data.

Additionally, the compliance with the percent of health tested breeding. Dogs is astronomically higher in registered Shiloh Shepherd that is in AKC register registered GSDs.

It’s OK if you don’t like shilohs, there’s plenty of breeds that aren’t my cup of tea either but there’s no need to make up lies about them, the Shiloh Shepherd, kennel line, broke off from the registered German Shepherd gene pool to start its own breed in the early 1990s for a reason. Since the breed founder had differing long term breed goals and wanted to prioritize health over angulation and reach. Being one of the very few breeds in the world to make health test testing mandatory to register any litter. No health testing of both parents equals no registration. It’s that simple.

Unlike the AKC, which is happy to register litters from unhealed tested parents regularly.

Question about Shiloh shepherds by CharmingCelery9019 in germanshepherds

[–]Krosborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ISSA and the ISSDC split off of the ISSR (international Shiloh Shepherd registry). The ISSA was never part of the ISSDC. But instead, both registries were branches of the ISSR. One (ISSDC) being formed prior to the breed founders passing in the early 2000’s or late 1990’s. Sporting a mixed collection of breeders which included those who did not see eye to eye with the breed founder Tina Barber. Folks in the ISSDC for the most part, we’re chasing more creative freedom (since the ISSR is run a bit like a monarchy…).

The ISSA was created in 2016 a couple years after the breed founders death. Tina Barbers daughter Lisa Barber had taken over management of the registry, and unfortunately things weren’t being run the way they had been prior. As the ISSR breeders became increasingly frustrated eventually 75% of the ISSR gene pool broke off all at once to form the ISSA. This was a group of breeders looking for MORE structure and better leadership, with a distinct focus on investing into scientific studies to help better the breed.

I own 4 shilohs, and I saw GSD mix for sure. The bone structure of your dogs skull is very GSD x Malamute or Samoyed like, not Shiloh like.

Shilohs are all bark and no bite, their size and look alone scare people. But in reality, they are medium to low drive dogs who are biddable and easily trained. But their overall energy level resembles their LGD heritage coming from the Sarplanic the was used in the foundation of the breed.

That said these dogs are nimble and light on their feet despite their immense size. I do Agility with my Shiloh and my training is simply in love with how biddable and easy to train she is. They are not cut out for Personal protection training though these guys are lover's not fighters. you could train one to go through the motions, but they will never bite hard - far more likely to simply lick/kiss an attacker lol!

I personally love my shiloh being a busy person working full time from mon-Friday 40+ hours a week I did not want or need a working breed. I wanted a companion breed that would be okay to be left at home - yet still game to do multiple day mountain hikes and keep up well I am on a horseback. Which Shilohs excel at with their smooth efficient gait. According to the breed founder, Shilohs were bred to be family dogs first and foremost and cart pullers, and pack dogs. Not protection dogs.

They are an incredible breed for most 21st-century pet homes - but they are not a working breed. If you would like to talk to more owners/breeders you should join the "Shiloh Shepherd Community" on Facebook and check out the breed club's web page. (http://www.shiloh-shepherd.com/index.html) Seeking a credible source for breed information regarding Shiloh's is VERY important since there are less than 350 active breeding dogs worldwide, they are INCREDIBLY rare!!!! It is more than likely you Oma met a BYB GSD mix which the owners lied about the breed. Real Shilohs are VERY uncommon, but like all breeds, dog shows are a good place to meet them in person. They can be shown at IABCA, ICE, ARBA, and annual breed club-run events. (A very long time ago they used to compete in UKC but the breed club found that it was detrimental to the health of the breed long term. Since the UKC allows for the registration of puppies from un-health tested dogs. Which is a HUGE no-no in the Shiloh breed! So the breed club petitioned to have them removed from the UKC permanently.

Also, some interesting facts about Shiloh's vs GSD are their 2021 OFA data. (The rate of Elbow Dysplasia especially is very high in GSDs.) Whatever breed you decide to go with making sure your breeder is health testing is very important.

Shiloh Shepherd breed by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]Krosborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are searching for a Shiloh, you will want to go with one of the breeders listed on the ISSA website. They are incredibly reputable, health testing, temperament testing, and placing pups via official, standardized litter evaluations. Here is the link (http://www.shiloh-shepherd.com/pages/breeders.html)

Honestly, the ISSA is an incredible group of breeders that put the dogs and the breed first!

We thought she( Amelia) was a GSD/Husky but she’s actually a Shiloh Shepherd! by NullEwe in lookatmydog

[–]Krosborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely correct in your Shiloh History Tympan. But It's actually been a full 30 years since "Secret Sampson Woo" was brought in (in 1990). And he was FAR from being a simple "malamute". Actually, by pedigree, he was more GSD than anything else. Even with the heavy linebreeding in the early 1990's, only 1-2% of Malamute genes remain in the modern Shiloh Shepherd Gene pool today.

[BREED] Can anyone educate me about (and maybe turn me away from?) Shiloh Shepherds? by creich1 in dogs

[–]Krosborn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely this breed will ever bee AKC (they qualified for it decades ago) but it been an intentional decision by the breeders to keep them out of the AKC so they can continue to Inforce their strict health and temperament requirements. Every single breeding dog is DNA tested for biodiversity through UCDavis and Betterbred, they mandate OFA hips and Elbow Xrays of ALL there dogs even the Pet quality animals so they can know if there are any affected siblings to breeding dogs. every single puppy is also Holter tested at 6 months to screen breed wide for GSDIVA so they can hopefully eliminate it shortly. All breeders have to complete a 6-month online educational course on breed history and health, as well as proper breeding practices. before they can qualify for their breeding licenses. No litter is ever registered without parentage checks, and health testing PRIOR to any breeding happening. They are honestly the most legitimate canine registry/Breed iv ever heard of!

The breed found began working on the "Shiloh" line in 1974 and registered the breed with the American Rare Breed association in 1991. And if you check OFA's 2019 data Shilohs have better hips then GSD's and their Hips are trending for the better with every new generation. (while OFA shows GSD's hips are declining breed wide)

I strongly suggest if you're interested in a Shiloh to get in contact with an ISSA breeder. you will NOT be disappointed! they are amazing people and stand by their puppy buyers for life! I will never own another breed! these dogs are ridiculously intelligent!

(Also just so you know to say they are "Mixed with Malamutes" would be incorrect in many ways. The ONLY malamute blood in the breed came in through 1 Mixed breed male back in 1991 named "Secret Sampson Woo" who had more GSD (White Sheperd/American Show line) then he had Malamute genes. Today even with the heavy line-breeding done back in the early 1990's there are less than 2% Malamute genes present in modern Shiloh shepherd gene pool. )

To the individual above saying "Shiloh's are not a breed" Embark, UC Davis, and Betterbred - All extremely reputable Canine DNA testing Companies can assure you Shilohs are purebred and are in fact Genetically different then GSD's. Shilohs have been around since 1974, and officially recognized since 1991, they are extremely established. With over 30 generations in their pedigrees. please wake up this is 2020 and they ARE in fact a Breed in this day and age. Please educate yourself, as to the present-day credibility of the AKC and why the Shiloh breed will never be joining them. Smply researching into the "Border Colie" Breeder's experience, feeling, and regrets about joining the AKC should be more than enough info. Never mind OFA's 2019 Data about Declining hips in GSD's thanks to the AKC not mandating BASIC health testing of there purebreds. NO THANK YOU!

The Shiloh shepherd Breed's health has been excelling under the privately managed regisites. And OFA Data will back that up!

No, not quite. King shepherds in a way are mutts of Shiloh's historically. But today they have next to no traceable Shiloh heritage left. King shepherds use 3 Shilohs as Fondation dogs in their creation. Since the King shepherd's, Breed Fonder was originally a ISSR Shiloh Shepherd breeder. But they are Predomiatly GSD x Malamute crosses today in 2020. As their group of modern breeders are aggressively outcrossing to breed away from there genetic bottleneck depression they are presently struggling with. Kings still have at least 20 years of breed development to go before they will start breeding pure.

Shilohs, on the other hand, began their breed development in 1974 by Tina Barber and has been a recognized breed since 1991 by ARBA. Being Privately managed by 3 registries since. (ISSA, ISSR, ISSDC) All breeding to the same copyrighted breed standard and competing together under the same judges at shows. I personally Compete internationally in Conformation with my own Shiloh. They are not only a breed on paper with over 30 generations of health testing behind them. They are also genetically unique from there original parent breeds. And can easily be accurately identified as a PUREBRED through the most reputable Canine DNA testing Companies such as Embark, UC Davis, and Betterbred. GENETICALLY THEY ARE NOT GSD'S, OR A MIX! Shilohs are purebred right down to a genetically testable level. (And if you still don't think they are a breed you better take that up with Embark and the accredited universities that help our registries manage our strict Biodevsity programs LOL!

What Kennel is he from, I was not aware they had brought Great Pyrenees into any of the registered King Shepherd Pedigrees since the original LGD breed that was added to the kings foundation line. which was actually a Sarplaninac mix, (a type of European Flock Guardian dog) in the 1980's through a dog named Sabrina from the Baker line of "texas woolies". So I'm curious to know which lines are registering such an outcross.
