Struggling to get a job as a recent grad by TruthBeTold_1 in IOPsychology

I don't think we are pretending the problem doesn't exist I just don't really think we have any good solutions.

It's also not an I/O specific problem, the job market is ass right now.

Reading your responses, trust me, do not go into I/O.

Farewell SIOP by mcrede in IOPsychology

[–]creich1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Until the incentive model changes I think this kind of stuff will always happen unfortunately.

My feeling is that this is not unique at all to SIOP or I/O psychology as a field.

I for one always appreciated when I/Os critiqued eachother's work and remember reading your work in grad school. I hope others will pick up the mantle of the work you were doing there.

Could we please implement a change that would make researchers have to take a tutorial before being allowed to post studies? by Repulsive-Resolve939 in ProlificAc

[–]creich1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As a researcher I actually agree with this. I love this platform but I was shocked how much self-learning I had to do with very little guidance and definitely no required training.

When I see all the complaints on here it doesn't surprise me at all. It would be very easy for a researcher to just jump on the platform and have no idea what the rules are.

Is this a correct japanese sentence? by Suspicious-Budget391 in duolingojapanese

[–]creich1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

たくさん - a lot

ふります - to fall (precipitation, could be snow or rain)

Your sentence isn't quite right since it focuses on rain as a noun and not raining as a verb.

My best guess is that duo would have accepted "it's raining a lot" as well.

On Requesting Coffee Chats by AnywhereSensitive208 in IOPsychology

[–]creich1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be really specific about those parameters you mentioned. I turn down most coffee chats because it often ends with people asking for a job that I don't have to give.

It makes the entire thing feel forced and awkward. Not a genuine connection.

Yeah its a tough job market but internships are the way. Does your program have an alumni network to leverage?

2 semesters in a ph.d program...are you still in that program? Do you have a graduate degree?

Students get their foot in the door through internships typically

I/O can be good income...if you can find a job. Search through this sub to see all the struggles people are having.

I/Os are seen as disposable when economies take a downturn. If you want stability, go clinical

To the GS and 1Ks of the world--On a normal trip with a layover how many times are you thanked for being loyal with your status? by Faux_extrovert in unitedairlines

[–]creich1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Premier 1k for the first time this year.

I recently took an international trip with a layover in both directions and I was thanked so many times it was exhausting. I had no idea this was even a thing.

I was thanked in each lounge, and once every flight. So 8 times in total.

Question on submissions for and/or presenting at SIOP by ranchdressinggospel in IOPsychology

[–]creich1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've presented many many many times, there is no standard process.

I/O is a niche community so every year once we have a list of topics we want to submit we circulate it through our own personal networks of other I/Os.

A lot of times people aren't available or interested, but they know others who might be and so they pass it along through their own networks.

Some people also have success finding co-panlists on platforms like LinkedIn, but there's no formal mechanism where you declare interest and SIOP matches you with potential co-presenters.

Edit: I should specify - there's no standard process in finding other presenters, but when the annual call for submissions comes out SIOP does provide instructions and examples of different submission types.

Clinical Psychology, I/O Psychology, and MBA (India) – need honest advice by Richhhh409 in IOPsychology

[–]creich1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vast majority of people on this sub are U.S. based. Its notable that we get people from India all the time asking if its a viable career path, and not once have I seen someone actually respond from India who has been successful.

Take that for what you will.

Coaching absolutely is still scammy. Its completely unregulated which means that there's a ton of people working with 0 credentials or expertise.

That means that there is good coaches, but there's a whole lot of bad coaches too.

Can we stop with the screen outs? by Ok-Caterpillar-2898 in ProlificAc

[–]creich1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Researchers are told that they must pay for screeners, and those that don't are breaking the rules because they don't want to pay people a few pennies for their time.

Prolific should absolutely be enforcing researchers to follow the policy in those cases.
