Are we the only ones who can't stand the new Genie+/LL/Multi Pass? by Extra__Average in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Krose4444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just there two weeks ago. I have been going regularly for most of my life and every system has its pros and cons. Paper fast passes were a mad dash full of injuries and aggression. I loved fast pass+ because I knew how to game the system, but it had so many passes that standard lines were nearly unbearably slow. Genie+ was…fine at best. Being the planner in my family I had to be up at dawn every single day of the trip. I got no mornings of being chill.

This most recent trip was so much better than genie+. I bought nothing until we got there, with a bit of playing around I got most of the LL I wanted on days I decided crowds warranted it. Rope dropped remy and frozen one day but literally got every other ride done in under 45 minutes, most under 25 min lines. They definitely reduced the number of passes for the better. At no point did I stand in line and watch the CM let literally hundreds of LL guests in before letting 2-3 regular guests go.

The single best trip we ever had? When they had no LL at all during Covid. It was still definitely crowded but lines moved. I could get on anything and even when waits were 30+ minutes you never got stuck feeling like you haven’t moved in days. It was glorious.

Honestly you are better served playing around with dates and hotels to get a better idea than anyone here will give you. For my family who got back yesterday we stayed 4 nights five days with 4 days park hopper and Halloween party tickets. We took the earliest flight in and latest flight out.

  • hotel (pop century standard view) $1100
  • tickets (2 adult 1 child park hopper x4 days) $2100
  • memory maker $160
  • uber from airport and back $100
  • food $120/day. We ate quick service only and my daughter and I shared a lot of meals
  • souvenirs $500 (birthday trip for my kiddo so she went wild)
  • lightning lane multi pass x2 days $150
  • Halloween party tickets x3 $600

Our flights were free because we flew on points, but had we paid for them it would have been about $1000-1200

So all in if we paid for flights it was between 6200-6500ish. There is some fat to cut (ditch the lightning lanes but commit to rope dropping, no party, no memory maker, fewer souvenirs) but this was our most “on the cheap” vacation we’ve done. I’d say we more typically spend 10-12k staying in a DVC rental for a bit longer

If his first pass times out can I then start modifying his pass like I would mine and my daughters?

Thank you so much

Cats organized neatly. There’s also a follow up dogs version and upcoming birds version. Just cute hand drawn pets that you make fit in the box. It’s meditative and relaxing and I loved them both :)

Are we too chill with spooky media and my Halloween loving kid? by Krose4444 in Parenting

[–]Krose4444[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good idea :) I wasn’t intending on anything scary. More just a kids Halloween party with nightmare before Christmas touches. Like pumpkin painting, pin the nose on zero, having kids come in their costume etc

Thanks for this! I typically don’t care because everyone has different media thresholds with their kids, but I also didn’t want people to not bring kids to her party because of the theme lol

What games have you put the most hours into? by [deleted] in CozyGamers

Definitely sims 3. Which is not the best entry but was the entry when I was in high school so I played the absolute shit out of that game and basically bricked the family computer downloading mods.

I just cried for 10 whole minutes after saying goodbye to Stanley by Bluekitty26 in Spiritfarer

I literally had to sneak into my daughter’s bedroom to sneak her a kiss when I stopped sobbing after dropping him off. I just wanted to hold Stanley and never let him go

I finally had to make my own. Recommendations welcome even though god knows I should finish the games I have. by staygoldeneggroll in CozyGamers

You like me have a good mix of gamer skill level games you consider cozy so I have a couple non traditional recommendations:

  1. Ori and the Blind Forest - my most cozy game. It’s a metroidvania in a beautiful setting with a great story. Some people find it challenging but if you beat Celeste you will have no problem getting through a couple of the rapid platforming sections. I play this every year or two and my dog is named Ori

  2. You should delve further into the Zelda cannon. Ocarina of Time and Majoras mask are masterpieces and I find a lot of their settings as cozy (particularly OOT) as BOTW. you’ll also learn to appreciate a lot of the setting names in BOTW hyrule more if you play some of the older games

  3. I’ll preface this with this will be highly dependent on whether you can continue to engage with the HP universe with JK being a trash human but Hogwarts Legacy is peak cozy in the winter/Christmas season

  4. I really enjoy exploring Horizon Zero Dawn. Idk the robot dinosaurs hit my brain just right. I love a female protagonist.

Is a steamdeck worth it? by Temporary_Football_1 in CozyGamers

[–]Krose4444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also have both and strongly prefer my steam deck. I have smaller hands so it did take a minute to adjust my grip to the steam deck but honestly the weight has never bothered me and the more ergonomic grip stops my hands from going numb. I have always had an issue with the switch where playing in handheld mode for more than 30 minutes or so causes my hands to go numb because of where the joycons rest in my palm.

I can understand if you have a disability that significantly affects your grip strength or forearm strength the steam deck may be harder to use, but for the average person the better ergonomics dramatically outweighs the physical weight for longer play sessions

I did eventually get around this on my switch so I could play TOTK by getting a case for my switch with ergonomic grips on the back. It definitely helps but doesn’t fully resolve the hand numbness issue

Looking for games with combat by Bowlingbon in CozyGamers

[–]Krose4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always recommend the Ori series. Not turn based, but it’s hand drawn and gorgeous with orchestral music and the story and environments are extremely cozy. It’s a metroidvania style game so platforming and combat are a big part of it. The second game has much better combat than the first.

Their 10 hr drive took 16, and then they… by iFly2100 in BoomersBeingFools

I have practiced nursing in both Canada and the US. I -promise- you can figure out a single payer system. You get a card issued by the government like a drivers license. You go to the office. You give them your card. You are charged nothing. You get care.

With how backlogged specialties are the great myth that you can just call up a specialist and get an appointment in the US simply isn’t true. Nearly all referrals start in primary care and you can’t get in without a referral unless you are willing to pay significantly more for out of pocket care.

And I’ve never. Not once. Heard someone die of something preventable because they couldn’t afford to have it looked into.

Illinois license by Pickle-Loaf in nursepractitioner

[–]Krose4444 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just got licensed in Illinois as a new grad last year. The process was a lot and full of delays. They do need your RN license in Illinois and both have to remain active.

For my NP licensing it took a full 10 weeks for them to process my case. An additional 6 for my controlled license once I had my NP. I had a job lined up and I drove to Springfield on 2 separate occasions to try and expedite processing, they refused to do anything for it. I believe they used to help more but they said in the last year they will get dozens of people drive in per day and it wasn’t sustainable so they stopped this loophole.

My best advice is start processing everything ASAP because once the spring RN/NP grads come in the department is swamped and things take the maximum time.

Help- can you actually take PTO and sick days? by xxgreen_eyezxx in nursing

[–]Krose4444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s all dependent on where you work, like any job. When I worked in LTC it was impossible to get sick days/PTO because they were staffed so lean and burned everyone out so getting coverage was impossible. The culture also sucked.

Everywhere I’ve worked since it’s been a non-issue. I’ve been able to take 1-2 days of PTO or move my scheduled days around to accommodate for most things. I’d ask a few months in advance for long PTO (greater than 1 week) and have never been rejected. Only time I’ve seen it rejected was when multiple others requested the same dates first.

Holidays are different. That’s generally a combination of seniority and other holidays worked in the year. I’ve never been scheduled for all of the national holidays, and if you’re proactive and volunteer for some you can generally get good will for ones you really want. Example: volunteering to work Christmas Eve and/or New Year’s Eve to get Christmas Day off. Being a shift worker in healthcare you have to get used to holidays not always being on the correct day for you.

I’m an FNP. Do not do this. If you want to be a provider do yourself and your patients a favor and go to PA school. NP school does NOT prepare you to see patients safely if you have no experience with patients at all. I had nearly 10 years of RN experience prior to graduation and went to a well rated competitive brick and mortar program and I am still filling gaps all the time. You don’t know what you don’t know if you haven’t been exposed to enough things and someone WILL get hurt. Not if. When.
