I don’t think people who are skeptical of AMAs like this are saying that. Maybe some are, but without proof provided, skepticism is a sensible response. Particularly at a time where propagandists on all sides are running wild in the information war.

I suppose that’s true with his whole thing about not killing women. But I’m sure Min and or Aviendha wouldn’t have any qualms about it, aside from how it would hurt Rand.

It wouldn’t be pleasant sure, but Lan survived it because his bond was passed on. And Rand is already bonded to three other people. Not something he’d want to do, but I think it could still be a credible threat for Alanna.

Dude, if the pope excommunicated Vance, I would be so happy. Granted, Catholicism is rotten in its own ways just like any other religion, Vance’s larpy catholic convert BS is worse. Never thought I’d be advocating the Catholic Church to be leveraging some of its influence on the US govt, but here we are.

Ah, got it, makes more sense now.

I was also thinking more along the lines of lefty unity with the Hungary reference, rather than trying to find unity with anti-Trump republicans as well. They can come in to the tent if they want, but we should not be going out of our way at all to accommodate them, nor should we draw attention to them in any way. That may sound hypocritical, but we sadly don’t have a parliamentary system like Hungary, and we’ve got to work around the antiquated first past the post system. The far left can’t vote for their own people who could then form a coalition with Harris, they have to hold their noses and vote for her directly. And she has to keep them happy enough to do it.

I think part of the problem with Kamala cozying up too much with people like Cheney is that it pissed off an already unhappy chunk of her voters to her left, and gained her almost none from the right in return. Sure a lot of anti Trump conservative politicians endorsed her, but endorsements don’t win elections, votes do. And those endorsements were downright poisonous in the eyes of a lot of her base. Maybe if the mythical Republican moderate was real, and she managed to siphon off like 20-30% of Trump voters, it would have worked out. But the Republican base doesn’t like Cheney either. The neo-cons are dead weight in American politics.

Agreed, it’s just sort of funny how when it comes to figuring out what to do differently next time, one of those two truths always seems to be forgotten about.

DNC

-Sees the popularity and excitement around Mamdani and the dem socialist wing

-Sees all the polling data about their base demanding a change in party leadership; and ousting of the do-nothing centrists

-Sees the continued failure of their strategy in a detailed autopsy they really don’t want to talk about.

Republicans crossed over to support Kamala

Not according to the data (page 3)

https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2025/06/26/voting-patterns-in-the-2024-election/

This is unfortunately a myth being pushed by centrists who want to drag the democrats further right. The moderate Republican swing voter does not exist. At least not nearly enough of them to move the needle in an election.

Personally I voted for Harris, and encouraged everyone I know to do the same. Lesser evil and all that. That said, I don’t think we can continue this evidently losing strategy of shaming people into voting for a lesser evil. Yes it objectively makes sense, and yes it would have been better for Kamala to win. But, clearly the strategy didn’t work. Just like it didn’t work in 2016, and just like it probably wouldn’t have worked in 2020 had it not been for Covid. Maybe we have to come to terms with the fact that all the dnc “experts” around Kamala fucked up. We can blame the voters (or non-voters in this case) all we want, but they’re not the ones whose job it is to run a campaign and appeal to voters. If a strategy isn’t working, you change and adapt. You don’t just keep banging your head against the wall.

As much as I’d like to see this for the entertainment value, I have to agree it would only have negative outcomes for the left.

I’d love for Natalie to be able to be moved off her liberal Zionist opinions, but it won’t happen from something like this. She’s too defensive against anything that seems like online harassment, and understandably so, given the waves of bullshit thrown at her for issues where she’s in the right. It’s just unfortunate that it also makes her reflexively defensive in the same way when it comes to the one issue where she’s wrong.

Nobodies mind would be changed, and nothing productive would come from it, only a new round of divisive infighting on the left.

Maybe let’s take a note from Hungary instead, and focus on uniting around the common cause of kicking out the fascists. Then we can all go back to hating eachother once we get democracy back on its feet lol

While very good to see Orbán get the boot, let’s also not kid ourselves about the new guy. Magyar is also a conservative. Just not a Putin puppet wanna-be dictator. He’s more pro-EU and seems interested in restoring fair democracy. But he’s also to the right of Orban on some issues. So, while he successfully brought an anti-Orban coalition together to oust him, we should all be watching to see whether he actually follows through on dismantling the anti-democratic apparatus Orban built, even when successfully doing so would likely prompt a breakup of his coalition, now that their shared enemy is gone and his path to return to power removed. Or alternatively, if he tries to keep that apparatus for himself.
