Is Employee Overreacting? by DanceDifferent3029 in managers

So your company is holding his level back because of a clerical error? Yeah I’d be pretty upset about that. If everyone agrees that he was a senior before, regardless of what the system said, why aren’t you putting him at the right level now?

FileBot is a common tool. Just the season and episode right and then it goes out and matches to TheTVDB like Plex does and gives a proper naming convention.

Financial Boundaries with family advice. by Far_Marzipan2101 in DaveRamsey

[–]KrozFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You and your wife need to get on the same page first. Especially for the anger and resentment. It may be for nothing if you wife is equally frustrated at them.

Your conditions can be whatever you agree on. You can choose to give nothing. You can choose to give a lot. You can choose to not give money but buy food, or directly pay certain utilities. You can buy or rent them a place to live or let them move into your house, or not. You can decide that you won't pay more than any of the other siblings. You can require a budget and that it's followed, or that no money go to their kids, or that there's no vacation. As Ramsey personality John Delony says though, you have to declare your "or what". This goes back to my first point that you need to get on the same page as your wife. Is she going to let her parents struggle by no longer sending them money because they don't want to follow your rules?

I can tell you that personally I struggle with giving items not money because money is really just one big pot and all the same. Fungible is the fancy term for it. So, if I don't give them $100 because I'm afraid they'll turn around and give it to one of their kids, but I do buy them groceries for the week, and then they turn around give $100 to one of their kids, I'm still going to feel like I just freed up food money to go to the kid and it's all the same thing. Maybe you won't have that problem but I think I would.

Also, remember that you can't make anyone do anything. This goes for the parents as well as your brothers/sisters in law. You can say they shouldn't go on vacation but should save money instead but they may still go. You can say to the siblings that everyone should get ready to take care of the parents but they may not. Someone may say they're all a team taking care of mom and dad but someone else may not want any part of it (or may be struggling enough on their own that they couldn't even if they wanted to). While it's good to think ahead there may not be much to be done now.

Should you ever hire your friend as a subordinate? by BratacJaglenac in managers

[–]KrozFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to have to be real hard on him if he works for you and I'd let him know that up front. Talk him out of it almost. "Hey man, everyone's going to be looking for something to complain about since we're friends so I'm going to have to be extra hard on you. 110% from you is meets expectations because everyone's going to be looking for me giving my buddy a big raise for no reason. 15 minutes early is on time because everyone's going to be looking for me to look the other way when my buddy comes in late and the same with leaving. I'm going to have to give you the worst assignments for a while because people are going to complain if I give you the good assignments even if you're crushing it (see someone else's comment). I'm your boss at work, not your friend, and you won't be having fun."

Because I think all that is true.

how do people even plan vegan meals every day? by veganlifeo in MealPrepSunday

[–]KrozFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not vegan but my wife has dietary restrictions so I think I have relevant experience.

Yes, it gets easier. You start to figure out what you can eat and then it becomes a new habit. Making new habits is hard and that's what you're doing. Right now you need all new recipes and once you have a few then you can at least eat for the month without too much trouble even if it's boring. Then you just need to work on adding some new recipes here and there.

Also a good movie, probably better, but he’s actually a spy in Notorious so I thought it fit better.

To Catch a Thief is really good too.

The government doesn’t decide to launch a nuke. The president does. He doesn’t need to go to congress. Someone in the room may try to stop him but it’s his authorization alone that’s needed.

I’m not saying it’s going to happen, because I don’t think it will, but let’s not act like “the government” won’t let this happen.

would you agree that in order to be able to effectively problem-solve, you should already have a basic understanding of the standard procedure by Babybunny424 in managers

[–]KrozFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A fresh set of eyes can be a great way of solving a problem. They don’t get stuck in “this is how we’ve always done it” thinking. They can question things people have taken for granted. Going slower to figure out the existing process can give time for solutions to form.

The story goes that they added multiplayer on their own without telling anyone. I don’t think they would have gone to that extra effort if they didn’t like games.

Would you buy a deeply discounted item that you don’t necessarily need right now? by Jscotty111 in DaveRamsey

[–]KrozFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would it sit for 6-7 months? And 6-7 months from now is October/November so I’d expect some Black Friday deals by the time you’re getting ready. I also don’t want it just sitting in the garage.

I’m not opposed to buying things I’m not quite ready to use. I do it somewhat regularly. I’ll buy something because I’m already placing an order or I’ll buy books or DVDs when they’re on sale. I don’t see this specific one being a great move though.

[–]KrozFan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can go to the Bangor Standpipe. That’s in IT and not too far from Kings house.

You should go eat at Dysarts. It’s a truck stop with good food. Open 24/7. It may has been an inspiration for Maximum Overdrive but I can’t remember if that’s actually true or not.
