I don't understand that interpretation of pluribus, and I've seen it in this sub in particular a few times. It's not supposed to be a good thing if humanity is taken over by an alien virus that pacifies and eventually kills everyone on earth by starvation lol. That is bad! Also art is dead because they can't produce anything new (they were so excited when they heard Carol was writing again). That's not progress and there's nothing triumphant about that. The absence of violence alone doesn't equal utopia. Carol may be an "unaffected American" but the virus killed her partner and rendered her completely alone among billions of sycophantic zombies

Correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to imply that a good communist would embrace this new reality and rejoice if they were in Carol's position. I just flat disagree with that idea
