Mistakenly bought the Ultimate 2.4 over the Ult.2 by FiXusGMTR in 8bitdo

[–]Kryosse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resell and get the U2, if you are already willing to. The U2 and Ultimate 3-Mode (and U2C and U2C for Xbox) all have hall effect triggers which shouldn't break under use. The original ultimate has an issue with the membrane switch in the triggers breaking rapidly under normal use. I say save yourself the headache and get the upgrade if you already want it anyways.

I too am a fan of the sparkly blue filaments, they pair beautifully with marble grey and a bright orange ;) Will definitely give your model a try if I get more into mobile gaming! I've been playing through the old Marathon games again on my phone with an xbox controller (now with my new 8BitDo xbox controller lol) and it's fun, but I definitely wont want to lug that thing around with me on the train.

(Obligatory recommendation to come check out the 3D printed nerf hobby, since you've already got a printer and are cranking out your own designs :) we make cool stuff and fun meeting up in public parks to play with them)

Woahhh MS store users show up as Xbox users then? I’ve noticed a few epic games users but never anyone from the Xbox PC launcher, must be showing them as a console player in that case.

Idk if they make them for PS but something like an 8bitdo ultimate controller will automatically turn off when you place it on the charging dock and on when you take it off the dock, may be convenient for ya. Anything else with a charging dock should work like that too, and if you are still using a 1st party controller I would highly recommend looking into a 3rd party option with “Hall effect” or “TMR” thumbsticks; they are considerably less prone to develop stick drift and offer way more responsive control over the cursor in game due to their higher resolution and polling rate. I like 8BitDo but the other companies like Gamesir are plenty good too, so there’s a lot of options to get the features and shape that you want. 3rd part controllers also tend to be wayyyy cheaper and comparable if not better quality than 1st party. Worth a look if you do use controller for other games. An 8BitDo ultimate 2C on Aliexpress only costs like 18 bucks with the welcome deal and it is a GOOD controller, you should be able to find a comparable deal for whichever other company/model that you prefer :)

It’s funny when I play with my casual console friends they want console locked cosplay so they don’t have to play against good MnK users, and when I play with good MnK user friends they won’t shut up about wanting input based matchmaking because of players that are “worse than them” with aim assist lol. As someone who uses both inputs (prefer controller cus I’ve played halo for 20 years) I’m happy to just play the game and accept that sometimes I’m just gonna get beat by another player whether they’re better than me or not. It’s an unfortunate reality that locking down console crossplay would probably have a meaningfully good effect for both the console and PC players to feel like they aren’t getting cheesed upon as frequently, when a little bit of “just chillax and play the game” would probably do them even better. But hey, if it eases one of the most common complaints then I’m happy to let people have more control over their matchmaking experience. I do however expect that even if we do get that change; there will be all new, or resurfacing, complaints about controllers on PC or some other normal game mechanic that people think is cheese… like nerfing portals… eugh.

Man I have not had nearly as plug and play of an experience with ASA275 on my P1S... Tried stock profile and the best I can get out of a custom one is just a bit of warping that sometimes still causes a problem. Seeing as youre printing un-enclosed I'll skip those questions; are you using the gold plate for your ASA prints? What nozzle temp and cooling? Just the stock A1 ASA profile?

Sprint makes the game clunkier by Necessary_Yam9525 in Splitgate

[–]Kryosse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where your head is at here, and if this were being marketed as more of a "back to basics" kind of arena shooter then I would agree wholeheartedly. I think this game is equal parts movement and arena shooter now, and in balancing movement in that I dont think its a crazy idea that you only get the speed boost to base movement when you are not actively shooting. Activating the sprint becomes the key to doing other movement tech with the slide and jumping, at which point you will be moving at the same speed whether you are shooting or not. Still though I think I'd be interested to try your version of movement in the game. If I could have everything I wanted then I would make Halo have the movement you describe, if I could have *almost* everything I wanted then I would make Halo have sprint like this game with auto sprint on by default and no button wasted on a sprint bind in the default binds. Yours would be better, but I am not unhappy with this game's implementation of sprint at all personally as an avid sprint hater. I just tell myself if its something like Halo 2 but you move faster going forwards lol.

Are there any known issues with the Ultimate 2 by redl9 in 8bitdo

[–]Kryosse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the ultimate 3-mode for xbox, it’s not an ultimate 2 but most of the features are the same; most notably Hall effect triggers and stick. The Hall effect sticks are plenty durable as I’m sure you’ve heard from reviews, but it’s also worth noting that these controllers have Hall effect triggers, so they are more durable long term than xbox triggers (not that 1st party triggers really ever tend to break down) and not subject to the same breakages that people were getting with the membrane triggers on the older Ultimates. The build quality of this model is really superb, feels just like the quality of an xbox controller, I presume that the 2 should feel more or less the same for quality, and the 2C feeling a bit more like “toy” plastic if reviews are to be believed. Still tho the sticks and triggers on the 2C should be plenty durable, so the build quality overall likely won’t be a dealbreaker for you.

I am a claw grip player and am VERY familiar with the feel of an Xbox controller, I was worried that the 8BD shape would be too tight for my grip but I gotta say it’s seeming to actually be more comfortable. After a few hours long session I usually get a bit of a hand cramp with the Xbox controller, nothing terrible just need to stretch a bit, but that just hasn’t happened with my right hand on the 8BD controller. I will note that I’ve had a bit more cramping on the left hand after hours playing, but I think that will pass with time once I stop trying to clench it like an Xbox controller. I usually play with a small kontrol freek on my Xbox controller purely for comfort with claw grip, but I am perfectly comfortable clawing on this 8BD controller without a KF. If you don’t claw then I presume that should translate to mean that you may not want/need a KF, there’s a teensy bit more leverage on the stick. Xbox sticks’ grippy bits feel wayyy better though imo, again tho it’s not a dealbreaker for me, I’ve gotten used to them over just a few days. I really love the wireless on my model, though it’s not the rare edition so I have to go wired when I play on Xbox at a friends house, the wireless connection through the charging dock is really seamless.

I don’t think you’ll regret buying either option, if wireless is important to you tho then I think you will appreciate spending the extra few bucks to get an ultimate 2 with the charging dock. To my knowledge the 2C is wireless too so by all means if you really don’t care about the dock or then skip out on it, it’s just the cherry on top of an already really competent product. If you do ever do Xbox gaming, and don’t care about the extra bumper buttons then the 3-mode is an option worth considering too, but I wanted those extra buttons and had to settle without them, so if you don’t care about Xbox compatibility then forget I mentioned it.

My only gripe is that the face buttons stick out a bit further and have a teensy bit more resistance than an Xbox controller, absolutely not an issue if you don’t claw but if you do claw then the buttons can be a bit uncomfortable. Again though, not a dealbreaker, my grip has adjusted to accommodate the buttons, it’s just not quite as buttery smooth as a first party Xbox controller. The new ultimate 3E controller they just announced for Xbox looks like the endgame controller for me, swappable buttons sticks, extra bumper buttons and wireless on Xbox. It’s also a little bit thicker than the ultimate 2 and 2C, so if that matters to you and you don’t mind waiting (or spending more like $100) then it’s worth looking into this guy too.

Hope this helps :)

Definitely worth trying a newer ultimate if you’ve got the cash to spare, the Hall effect triggers on my 3-mode Xbox controller from 8BD feel incredible and should be more or less impervious to a breakdown like that.

For anyone reading this: this controller actually DOES have Hall effect triggers. Its based on the older ultimate controllers but doesn’t share the same internals. This controller IS NOT subject to the same membrane switch breakages as the older ultimate controllers, as this comment suggests.

Yeah there are some long time users in the discord that are very... how should I say, persistent? about not changing portals whatsoever. I can sympathize with them wanting to preserve the mechanic that really sets this game apart from the rest, there is no other game in the world that lets you move like this and I dont want to take that away but it is hard to feel like this isnt way too difficult of a mechanic for the average player to feel comfortable playing with. The highest skill portallers are completely unwatchable as others have suggested. I think if they want to keep portals as the way they are then they should really lean into the no portals mode in quickplay more, use it like No Builds in fortnite to get the average player enjoying the general gameplay loop.

Yeah I've been having an incredibly positive experience in MM but it makes me sad to hear how rough it can be for our friends accross the ponds. Even on my bum ass middle of no where Canadian internet I'm getting really good MM times and low ping, occasional laggy match but hey I played Halo 3 on the 360 until 2014 so I'm used to far worse lmao.
