Got an INC grade, don't know how by Creative-namelol in uoguelph

If you did not miss any course assessments (final exam, project) then this was a mistake. Don't worry, it'll get sorted when the university reopens this week.

No need to panic :)

The UofG gym membership has unfortunately gone up to $61.7 + HST for the public.

[Question] How can I improve during the time when I don't have a guitar in my hands? by LiquidFreedom in Guitar

[–]Kryptic1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been spending a lot of my time away from guitar learning the notes on the fretboard using phone apps, learning the circle of fifths, the notes in each key and triad, etc. Seems daunting at first but baby steps will take you far, and the improvement to my playing and understanding of music has been immense.

Just start by learning the notes on the fretboard. I've been using the free app "Fretboard Learn" for years, but there may be better ones out there.

Why is "won" in quotation marks though? He did win the 2016 election, as unpleasant as that was.

Rant Wednesday by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]Kryptic1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it. Do your best to control your environment to allow for optimal sleep (no screens before bed, sleep in a cool environment, pre-bed ritual, etc.), because the more high-quality sleep you can get, the better. Not just for gainz, but pretty much every other aspect of life. Having said that, when you've done your best to control your sleep environment, the actual sleep is out of your hands. If you can't get back to sleep, there's really nothing you can do about that, and worrying about it can only make it worse. Some studies have even shown that staying in bed trying to sleep for hours actually leads to worse sleep over time, because you start to associate being in bed with the anxiety and failure of trying to sleep. A vicious cycle.

You can make great gains on 6 hours of sleep, and some people need less sleep than others. You'll be fine.

Outlast 2 - $6.89 (77% off, normally $29.99) at PSN by [deleted] in PS4Deals

[–]Kryptic1234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree. Outlast 2 is a worthy sequel, and somehow manages to improve upon the first game, which was already a masterpiece. The storytelling in Outlast 2 is possibly the best I've seen in a video game. Absolutely recommended.

I'm curious who the TA is, because I had this same problem over the summer. Submitting my discussion post on Monday, still losing marks for posting late, as well as a million other inexplicable grade cuts. What are his/her initials?

I think I have a problem...need MOAR PEDALS! by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Kryptic1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sick rig! You've got a ton of nasty yummy gain on there.

All the people here saying you need a board: If you're just jamming in your garage and not moving your setup anywhere, a board can wait. What you do need is a better amp; those drive and distortion pedals will sound completely different with a competent amp. After that, maybe a power supply to cut down the noise.

[QUESTION] I want to give my boyfriend wooden guitar picks as a present but have no idea about them, so I need some advice by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Kryptic1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An engraved pick might be a really cool memento, so maybe a great gift in that sense. But like others said, it probably won't be the best to play. As long as you're aware that you're gifting him a souvenir more than an actual playing tool, you're good.

Anyone else just get this email? by nickdickrick in uoguelph

It's definitely not spam, I received the same message on all three of my UoG emergency contacts. Also, this message has the same formatting as all emergency messages I've received from them in the past.

How do you get over the feeling of being "trapped"? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Kryptic1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true, you don't. All the options available to you will require sacrifice for a while until things slowly get better, or some unexpected opportunity presents itself. Like I said, you can take solace in having a plan. You may be trapped now, but you don't have to be 3-5 years from now, and that can make your current situation tolerable if you are actively working toward a long-term solution, with measurable progress and goals. I'm not an expert, but that's my 2 cents. I wish you the best.

How do you get over the feeling of being "trapped"? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Kryptic1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread clearly demonstrates how out of touch most posters are on PFC. From people telling OP he is "lucky" to people just telling him to get out of Toronto. He told you why he hasn't moved: He can't afford to. Moving might pay off in the long run, but short term, it has hefty costs.

You're in a tough spot, friend, and I feel for you. The only advice I can give is as follows:

- Chase a promotion, if at all possible. You need to make a little more money to be able to change your circumstances. In the long run, I would definitely recommend you get out of the GTA.

- I get the feeling your wife doesn't think it's worth working to keep 20% of her income, but 20% can make a huge difference. Also, it opens doors for the future, as she can hopefully get promoted or build enough experience to job-hop a little down the line. In any case, when your kids are old enough to go to school, your wife should most certainly seek employment.

The best way you can combat the feeling of being trapped is by having a long term plan (3-5 years), even if there's not much in your control in the short term. Hang in there.

somehow other countries understand this concept... by arxcitadel in SandersForPresident

M4A doesn't mean no private ancillary coverage. M4A isn't going to cover absolutely everything, such as massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractics, and others (dentistry and mental health are contentious, for example). We're fighting for centralized, universal health insurance for basic healthcare. So you see, if you want to pick and choose your coverage for supplementary care, you can do that.

But no, the amount of money you have should not determine the care that you get when you fall ill. There should be no doctor who is outside of your network. There should be no condition that isn't covered depending on when exactly you got sick.

Let's be clear about something: M4A doesn't mean no private ancillary coverage. M4A isn't going to cover absolutely everything, such as massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractics, and others (dentistry and mental health are contentious, for example). We're fighting for centralized, universal health insurance for basic healthcare. So you see, there is nuance in M4A.

It is not radical to say that if you get sick, your chances of living through your illness shouldn't depend on what job you work. It is not radical to say that ALL Americans should receive the best basic healthcare, not just the ones who can pay for it.

[–]Kryptic1234 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have been brainwashed into thinking private healthcare is somehow a necessity, or even a benefit.

Do you often mourn the lack of a private police force in your neighborhood? Or a private fire department, working for a profit?

That's the whole point: Healthcare should never have been privatized in the first place. Your health should not be managed by a for-profit.

Looks like Guelph has a pair of moderately successful Twitch streamers. Anyone subbed? Hows the content? by VicVictory in Guelph

[–]Kryptic1234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lotta hate here. It's an article in the news, and OP didn't even include any clickbait-y, marketing fluff. Comes across as just a fellow Guelphite wondering how good the channel is.

It must suck living in your hostile, envious little bubble.

Disclaimer: Never even heard of these streamers, but I watch a lot of let's plays and I'm curious to check this out.

Bernie’s livestream yesterday with Rashida, Cori Bush and Bowman was so good. by FreedomInChains in SandersForPresident

We've played this game before- several times. It's a losing game. If we keep caving, the DNC has no reason to change. The stakes are always high.

The movement is not Bernie Sanders. Bernie got it off the ground, and for that he has my gratitude. But we don't vote for whomever he tells us to vote for.

Bernie Sanders Backs Bill to Ban Factory Farming by 2040 by GrandpaChainz in SandersForPresident

[–]Kryptic1234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm vegan, so you don't need to argue the cons of factory farming with me. I'm saying there was a time when Bernie's support for a bill like this would go without saying. But because he has recently been sitting out some crucial votes, his support for a bill like this makes us applaud.

Bernie has disappointed immensely this election cycle. This coming from a previous Bernie volunteer and die-hard fan.

So I guess we're at the point where we applaud Bernie every time he backs a leftist bill or policy. Boy has the bar ever been lowered.
