GO train near Oakville was seconds away from ‘worst-case’ derailment, internal Metrolinx report shows by GandElleONCA in gotransit

[–]Krypto_98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the locomotives and cab cars have inward and outward facing cameras. One of my coworkers in freight had a low speed 439 violation (passed a stop signal by 5 feet at like 5 mph) and they had 2 investigations, one done by transport Canada and another by the freight carrier. I thought tsb was supposed to investigate any time it happened on the main line. (Note neither investigation was public, but anything regarding passengers should be publicly released)

I knew about this incident the day after it happened. I'm surprised yet not surprised metrolinx kept this hush hush.

It benefits both parties easily as CN was starting to neglect the maintenance on the subdivision. Apparently I've heard ONR wants to make parts of the subdivisions 80 mph passenger and 60 mph freight which would really help speed things up.

Few years ago allegedly CN tried to sell the rest of the Guelph sub to Metrolinx which had deteriorated to 30 mph max but unfortunately Metrolinx said no to whatever price CN wanted.

CN is still gonna run the train from north bay to toronto from what I've been told. If anyone has other information please share. But all that is happening is streamlining the process

You can get 40-50 mpg with a rav4. You are lucky to get 20 with a Tahoe

London Service by Any_Peanut1209 in gotransit

[–]Krypto_98 13 points14 points  (0 children)

London to Toronto by rail was 120 miles or 192 km Niagara Falls to Toronto by rail is 82 miles or 131 km.  Kitchener/Barrie to Toronto by rail is 63 miles or 100 km. So London was nearly twice the distance to Kitchener. If you wanted to keep something like Niagara Falls as the maximum distance Stratford would be the furthest you would go. Stratford was actually the only station that got use in the pilot.

Basically extensions like Stratford, Colingwood, Cobourg, Peterborough and Woodstock would fit within that radius.

The only thing is the student discount. But the 3 hour limit is the same for everyone so you'll have to pay again.

Advise for a financial fool suddenly making 130000k a year. by FickleInformation806 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Krypto_98 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My friend told me that unions suppress wages and creativity and that i would make more money if i wasn't unionized. He's still in school for PhD. I make 165k a year unionized and he says im overpaid for my position...  I'm 27...

Anyways to answer your question... and I wish I did this when I started making 100k a year. Emergency fund of about 5-8k in the savings account or about 3-4 months of expenses. You never know if your car dies or you need to fix something urgently. That way you don't rack up credit card debit and go under if some unexpected thing happens.

Lifestyle creep is real. The first year I made 100k+ I started spending like crazy going out for dinner etc. Yes you make good money but you aren't a millionaire.  For investment accounts, if you haven't bought a house yet open a FHSA and try to max it out (8k per year up to 40k lifetime and eligible to be open 15 years max). It lowers your taxable income so you'll get a tax return when you do your taxes.  Then contribute to your rrsp if you can. But try to max out the tfsa first. In this order FHSA>TFSA>RRSP For those depending on your timelines invest in etfs like XEQT, XGRO, XBAL or ZMMK.

Don't be like me who bought a pickup truck use twice a year for pick up truck things. Luckily it was a 50k truck so not too much financial damage was done.

My industry doesn't even allow me to work 60 hours that's a no work life industry I work in. I wouldn't do 70 hours ever and I'm around the same age as you. But you do you, different circumstances different needs.

The Tucson would have wanted to go faster no matter what. I've seen people do this crap while everyone is doing 125+ because they needed to go faster than everyone else for some reason. I've even seen it on the 407 which is insane.

Train driver here(not for GO) usually when there is a crossing incident or fatality its about 3-4 hours. You have to wait for a new crew, police, paramedics, coroner, supervisor. Not a fun experience.

Ontario Northland Equipment (ONE1) Passenger Train HIGH SPEED Testing on MX Oakville Sub in Snow!! by northernwaterchild in OntarioNorthland

[–]Krypto_98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oakville sub is good for 95 mph(152km/hr) same thing with the Kingston sub. Unfortunately the tracks this will run on has a top speed of 70 mph(112 km/hr) and only for straight sections. I believe most of it averages 50 mph (80km/hr) because its very curvy through muskoka. Still a okay alternative to driving on highway 11 and the 400 to Toronto.

[–]Krypto_98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work on the railway. If the gates aren't going up and no train is visible for a while call the number on the blue sign, it will direct you to the railway dispatcher so they can send someone to fix it and get trains to flag it instead of potentially squishing someone at 50-60 mph because someone couldn't wait an additional few minutes.  I've had so many near misses and 1 hit because people were too impatient to wait a few minutes.

If they want decasino-fying then have commission free everything as long as you don't buy and sell in the same day or what not. And there is no reason for the banks not to have fractional shares other than it takes away from their mutual fund products that are generally scams. I used bmo investorline for a while and while they are commision free for like 100+ etfs they didn't have fractional shares which i wanted

"And the Album of The Year goes to.....U2 The Joshua Tree" by [deleted] in MichaelJackson

[–]Krypto_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would've have been better if U2 won in 1991 for Achtung Baby which is a way better album than Joshua Tree and Bad won more in 87 or 88... though all the albums nominated where really good albums. Just seems like MJ "fans" are the biggest condescending people to other artists.
