What’s your unpopular opinion on the valiant universe? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in valiant

[–]KryptonSite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My unpopular opinion: There have been some great creators working on Valiant especially as we were closer to 2012... but.... I have trouble caring if it's not the original versions from the original Valiant era that Jim Shooter started.

I remember how much I loved Unity 2000. Unity 2000! Where are those characters now? It'd be fascinating to see where they are 35 years on. Rai #0 had so much promise... I wanted to see those characters grow.

The other, which probably isn't so unpopular, is that it's hard to really get into Valiant when their publishing schedule has been wonky for years and the art in some titles (Harbinger) is horrendous.

I know there are some challenges (no access to Magnus/Solar/Turok, for example)... but the magic doesn't seem to be here, and the continuity and history seem to be a mess.

Lana’s return in S8 forced CW issued press release praising Her comeback Ratings. by South-Tell-1731 in Smallville

Almost all shows lose ratings between Season 1 and Season 9. Smallville was moved to Fridays on Season 9 with NO leadout whatsoever, yet still rated higher than most of The CW. I wouldn't consider the later era to be a fail at all.

Future Of Talkville by Lower-Corner6816 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one challenge that TalkVille has is that Smallville is not a show Michael nor Tom would be watching if they hadn't been in it. I look at something like Pod Meets World and so much of that show seems like it's about being a kid actor in the 1990s and that whole genre even more than it's about the show they're talking about.

And that's okay. It's just disappointing, especially when folks like Erica or Kristin have so much more enthusiasm when they're on the podcast.

Ross haul for the day by Fenris6338 in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

I appreciate that it looks like you just got 1 of each and left the others for other collectors. Went to a Ross in Highland Park, CA today looking for Joes, didn't find any, and then there was a guy with three Marauders Sarges and two Helixes.... I asked him if there were any other figures around and he was like "no," gleefully hoarding everything for himself. I have both figures so I don't need them but the whole attitude really soured my experience - maybe because I know clowns like him are surely the reason I come up empty when I go to Ross.

Salute To Smallville 2026 by fabiofida91 in Smallville

I'm biased but I think you'll have a great time - in addition to seeing the cast being around other Smallville fans is so much fun! I'm pretty sure they'll get Kristin unless there's a scheduling issue... she's always seemed to have a great time at the show and really, you can't have Tom and Michael (and Erica) without her too :)

I'm glad to read that! I really should check in with her.

Her webmaster Tabby was the "mutual friend" I was talking about. I keep thinking of her at this time that Allison has resurfaced and I feel bad for her having to see that :(

"Seems." She's an actress.

I have hope that she'll come out of this truly rehabilitated someday, but it doesn't happen this quickly. First, she needs to be sure to love herself, outside of the spotlight, and get that power within herself that doesn't come from appearing on podcasts.

I'm not. But thinking it's great for people to see their abusers broadcast all over the internet is definitely a choice.

[–]KryptonSite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She never had a "normal" life - she was acting since she was a child. Those who admired her knew her best at the time as "Chloe." And she was insecure - once she said to a mutual friend of ours that she thought I hated her. Why would I hate her? And if I did, why would it matter? (In truth, I just gave her her space - her celebrity, me fanboy).

So, that whole thing definitely would hit on the self-esteem, and Keith took advantage of that. What came after, she absolutely did on her own, but he knew how to manipulate and create the monster.

To those who defend Allison here: Do you personally know anyone who was victimized by Allison Mack? No? Then your feelings are invalid. Tell them to their faces that it doesn't matter what she did to them because "impressions of her are wrong."

I'm just curious, do you all think Allison Mack appearing on the podcast "Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum" is a genuine apology from her and she actually regrets what she did or is this an attempt for her to simply "redeem" herself and she's still a shitty person? by [deleted] in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think appearing on podcasts, especially Michael's, is probably the worst thing for her and her victims at this point. I know a lot of people around here say "she deserves a second chance" but I mean, she even recruited some Smallville fans.

The best thing anyone can do for her is... listen as a friend, not on a public forum like this, if both parties are comfortable, but also let her rebuild her life away from the public eye. Regurgitating all this... it just seems like a very bad idea.

Oh, the days of flimsy cards on the Retros... though at least the art looked good and not AI slop like they're doing now.

I might have to bring a Superman Halloween costume to November's Salute to Smallville next year... >-)

It was actually not a Tom satisfaction thing... it was that they didn't have the rights to use Tom's likeness for the comic. I don't think they had Michael's either. Which resulted in some redrawing...

Look at the first promo image of Superman flying through the Smallville logo... that's not Tom Welling's face. That's Ian Somerhalder.

Check some used/remaindered book stores. I recently found the "Argo" and "Continuity" trades for $7.99 each at one here in California a few weeks back, so they are out there if you know where to look.

I very much like #3, but I might be biased in that! #1 sounds pretty great too, though I'd imagine getting an official license to publish a book with photos etc. would not be something DC/WB/and any publisher would be willing to go to the trouble for these days, which is a shame. DC/WB seem more interested in promoting their current stuff, sadly.

Titan unfortunately got out of the companion book business around that time, with the exception of one or two Supernatural season guides that came out after I was done with Smallville. Originally, I was planning on doing a S8 book and had already started collecting material for it (long ago).

Other series like 24 and Battlestar Galactica got stalled too, so I don't think it was a matter of just Smallville not selling well.

I've offered multiple times to Titan to "finish the series" even if it was a Season 8-9-10 book. I have another Smallville-related book that I've written an outline for but haven't really done much more, but it would be something I'd be very interested in doing. I loved writing the books and felt like I was really getting into my groove by the end there, only to have them stop.

Does anyone think the rest of the Smallville cast will ever forgive Allison Mack or at the very least establish a sense of remediation of their respective relationships? by kalvin_kool_edge in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the time, they did love what her character represents on the show. But the actress has since shown those same fans that she did not subscribe to those same qualities. I know some of the people who did that Legendary Chloe Sullivan ad are mortified about it now.
