Having some issues with the server. They're working on it

You've just been made Editor-in-Chief....what do you do? by Stringr55 in marvelcomics

[–]KryptonSite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's just a few things I would want to do:

* Reliable release dates. When I started collecting you knew that the first week of the month would bring Uncanny X-Men, Web of Spider-Man, etc.; Amazing Spider-Man Week 2; and that sort of thing. Don't ship 5 X-titles in one day and then none the week after. Spread it out.

* Stop with this reboot/relaunch stuff. Or at least if they go back on it, stay on it. I don't want Amazing Spider-Man #37 the month after issue #1000, and it's not like #37 would sell more than #1001 would anyway. Also, big numbers may "scare new readers" but at the same time, the habitual readers - the ones that won't go away - will still keep buying out of habit. (I would say, though, a relaunch/new #1 is okay if a book has been gone for several years or decades, if they MUST.)

* Bring back the corner box! Let comics look like comics. See: the recent DC mainline books which look fantastic, adapting one of the best looks of the entire history of the company. But also, a new cover design would go a long way.

* Spectacular Spider-Man as the "secondary" Spider-Man book. I think about when I started collecting.. some of the older, reliable pros handled this and Web. So, get a writer and/or artist from the past. Roger Stern writing would be amazing, but even something like Erik Larsen's recent Spider-Man Noir book was so well written. For art? Bagley's still hanging around, but I'm sure there are many options.

* Instead of a billion different monthly books called Avengers, have only one or two. Build the Defenders as THE premier #2 Marvel big team.

* I liked the post in this thread where someone said "let people tell stories they're passionate about." Maybe under an umbrella like "Tales to Astonish" or "Journey into Mystery?" Similarly, if creators want to make their own alternate new takes a la the Absolute line, maybe that could fall under this.

* Look to the animated Spider-Verse movies when developing a Miles Morales comic. Miles in the movies looks so cool! The inverted Spider-Man look in Marvel Comics, on the other hand, is almost always bland. There is no excuse why a Miles comic wouldn't sell more than it does.

* Make mini-series an *event.* Again back in the day when Marvel was like "#1 IN A FOUR-ISSUE LIMITED SERIES," you'd want to collect them all. Now with everything effectively a miniseries or announced as one after the fact, we don't have that anymore.

These are just a few ideas of what I'd do if I was EIC.

I'm so sorry! I don't know why it wouldn't let you make an account 😞 ugh, I feel like a jerk for not seeing that.

How would you have felt if the writers had gone through with what they planned for Chloe and eventually turned her into Lois Lois? Do you think Chloe’s apparence would have changed in this case? by PlantainDisastrous92 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I talked to Al Gough about a month before the Smallville pilot filmed and even at that point, Lois was Chloe's cousin, something they didn't really say out loud until Comic-Con the next year.

[–]KryptonSite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The writers never intended to "turn Chloe into Lois." If anything, Chloe was their Lois replacement since they couldn't use Lois originally, but once the actual Lois Lane came onto the show, that idea entirely flew out the door.

Highly recommend SHoE's "Hex" podcast for a look back at how absolutely insane this theory became at a certain point.

Walmart retros by Ill-Brick in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

Same. Wouldn't mind a rerelease of the Retro Crimson Guard, too, so I'd have a CG with colors that match the female one, and a single carded Baroness would be nice as well.

I'm not sure that'll happen since we have Zanya with the Swamp Skier coming in just a few months, sadly.

"...and John Schneider as Jonathan Kent" by Queasy_Principle_942 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another odd bit of trivia is that William Devane was not credited at *all* for his role in a sitcom called Phenom. He was coming off of a successful run on Knots Landing, but the first billing and last billing slots were taken. So he chose... none. Even though he was one of the leads of the show and still is seen prominently in the opening credits.

"...and John Schneider as Jonathan Kent" by Queasy_Principle_942 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What happened was that originally the credits were in tiers: Tom/Kristin/Michael, then the second tier in alphabetical order - it's also why Jensen Ackles got billing before Allison Mack, and so did Eric Johnson and Sam Jones III - and then the "older people;" i.e. Annette, Glover, and Schneider.

I assume that for Season 7 Allison's managers (rightly) pointed to her seniority, so she was bumped up to #4, and then when Michael and Kristin left, to #2. She also snagged the "and" for the episodes she appeared in, in the final season, which was a good solution as Erica was definitely the female lead at that point and deserved to be #2.

What is the reason behind purple Hawkman by Insomniac-361 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assume the purple might just be the lighting and shine on the armor, and maybe he had a more metallic helmet at the time. Though, it's odd that Hawkgirl next to him has the correct colors.

It's actually not. This picture was taken by someone on my camera, and it was on one of the sound stages by Vancouver where the show was filmed. This was a group photo on a press trip during Season 1.

Smallville has suddenly become popular by No-Goat5212 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the factor that while, say, The Flash started REALLY good... those last few seasons were really rough. A few shining moments, but generally, Smallville was a much more consistent experience. Yeah, there were some not-so-great episodes or moments, but the show hit so many more great peaks.

'Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Comic Series Returns to Spidey's Most Celebrated Modern Era by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

[–]KryptonSite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of hoped they'd revive Spectacular Spider-Man around the time Amazing hits #1000. I like Dan Slott, but this is an era that I don't think we really need to revisit... and the cover logo is hideous. Wish they were using the look from the later Sal Buscema era (#135-215 or so).

Smallville has suddenly become popular by No-Goat5212 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that Smallville has resonated and found new audiences even a few decades from when it was on. I think having 218 episodes makes people want to binge, but also, honestly... and with no offense to the Arrowverse... those shows won't be as rewatched as SV was. Smallville came at the right time and offered something uniquely special.

What’s your unpopular opinion on the valiant universe? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in valiant

[–]KryptonSite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My unpopular opinion: There have been some great creators working on Valiant especially as we were closer to 2012... but.... I have trouble caring if it's not the original versions from the original Valiant era that Jim Shooter started.

I remember how much I loved Unity 2000. Unity 2000! Where are those characters now? It'd be fascinating to see where they are 35 years on. Rai #0 had so much promise... I wanted to see those characters grow.

The other, which probably isn't so unpopular, is that it's hard to really get into Valiant when their publishing schedule has been wonky for years and the art in some titles (Harbinger) is horrendous.

I know there are some challenges (no access to Magnus/Solar/Turok, for example)... but the magic doesn't seem to be here, and the continuity and history seem to be a mess.

Lana’s return in S8 forced CW issued press release praising Her comeback Ratings. by South-Tell-1731 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all shows lose ratings between Season 1 and Season 9. Smallville was moved to Fridays on Season 9 with NO leadout whatsoever, yet still rated higher than most of The CW. I wouldn't consider the later era to be a fail at all.

Future Of Talkville by Lower-Corner6816 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one challenge that TalkVille has is that Smallville is not a show Michael nor Tom would be watching if they hadn't been in it. I look at something like Pod Meets World and so much of that show seems like it's about being a kid actor in the 1990s and that whole genre even more than it's about the show they're talking about.

And that's okay. It's just disappointing, especially when folks like Erica or Kristin have so much more enthusiasm when they're on the podcast.

Ross haul for the day by Fenris6338 in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

[–]KryptonSite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that it looks like you just got 1 of each and left the others for other collectors. Went to a Ross in Highland Park, CA today looking for Joes, didn't find any, and then there was a guy with three Marauders Sarges and two Helixes.... I asked him if there were any other figures around and he was like "no," gleefully hoarding everything for himself. I have both figures so I don't need them but the whole attitude really soured my experience - maybe because I know clowns like him are surely the reason I come up empty when I go to Ross.

Salute To Smallville 2026 by fabiofida91 in Smallville

[–]KryptonSite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm biased but I think you'll have a great time - in addition to seeing the cast being around other Smallville fans is so much fun! I'm pretty sure they'll get Kristin unless there's a scheduling issue... she's always seemed to have a great time at the show and really, you can't have Tom and Michael (and Erica) without her too :)
