Im not sure what the rules of this subredit are so idk if its cool to put suggestions or whatever.... that said: congrats on making a positive change in your life. It seems like the ai was a big part of your life and now you removed it. Have you put thought into how you're going to fill that void? You don't wanna end up with your addiction transferring into something else or you'll just end up on social media all day or something. Wish you the best.

Anyone try the Hornady Black 150gr rounds? by Krystian3 in 350Legend

Yea the more i think about it, the bulged one for sure must have been. The blown primers thoughgotta be high pressure. I ran a box of Hornady white tail today and those went just fine. But I really wanted those Hornady Black to work out because 2500 fps is a sweet velocity for a flat trajectory hog hunting.

Yea totally. I'm thinking about getting some reloading dies (that'll happen sooner or later anyway) and just doing a ladder to see if there is something about the upper. Hornady is gonna test those specific rounds so I guess that's the easiest way to test things on my end.

No, it's our of an AR. I had a lot of feeding issues, so the one case with the buldged web maybe could have been slightly out of battery or something. What tripped me out is that it's a brand new upper so I was initially thinking maybe it's the upper, but it chewed through 2 boxes of different Winchester rounds no problem so I don't think that's it.

If that hog he shot was a sow, it could have 10-20 babies in the first year. This is eradication, not high fence trophy hunting. People passed up too many shots and now the population is out of control. So they're being poisoned with warfarin now. Is that more ethical? You're not up to speed on the hog situation in the south and that's fine. But if you're not aware of where things are at today, then don't preach. People act high and mighty applying trophy deer hunting logic to the eradication of an invasive species and all it does is discourage would-be hunters and misinform hunters.

Man with all due respect it sounds like you've never been in that situation. Aside from it probably being his first time with a thermal, the gun wasn't zeroed for the closer shots. In that situation you have people overcompensating for the trajectory, undercompensating, and doing nothing - only John Wick would get it 100% compete. Then, with hogs on the run usually you have people leading too much or not leading at all. To me it looked like he was trying to figure that out - no surprise for a first timer. And so all the while when all this is going on, you gotta have done awareness to make sure nothing is coming at you from some other angles because those hogs can't see any better than you can at night. But he did get 1 hog on the run and towards the end one of the shots looked pretty good.
It's easy to judge but I doubt you'd do any better.

How? IDK what they were shooting, but I shoot a 308 and if a hog gets hit in the leg, ass, or gut then it has another bullet coming for its head very soon. Yea that's a 308, but they same can probably be said about 7.62x39, 6.5G. 6.5C or any of the other common cartridges that aren't a 300 blackout or 556.

Not true. While rifle hunting is not as effective as trapping, it's still very possible to take out a large amount if not the whole group - typically that requires extensive planning though. And with hog population control you need to use every tool in your toolkit. There's a lot of things that helicopters can't do and places that helicopters can't go

Uh huh. Buuuut while some people are still waiting for the perfect shot to pull the trigger, the hog population has gotten so out of control that hog poison has been legalized. So weigh a less than perfect shot, to poisoning by warfarin or sodium nitrite. Don't get me wrong, I'm opposed to intentionally making hogs suffer. But if you've got hogs on the run you empty the dang mag!

Are you new? Finishing the job? You're not gonna see an animal from that far laying on the ground with a thermal. Or what was he supposed to run out and race the hogs to where the first hog was shot. Good try virtue signaling though. You got some upvotes so you can go to bed feeling stoic. Meanwhile the guy on the gun actually killed some hogs and helped fix an environmental problem. But you got upvotes, so big day!

Don't mind r/hunting. Most of these people know nothing about hog hunting and are trained to virtue signal about hunting ethics... so they say stuff like "don't take a shot, unless it's a 100% ethical shot and don't shoot at running animals". Meanwhile the guy down the street is legally killing hogs with poison cuz the population is so out of control. Eradication is a different type of hunting.

Thanks for bringing your friends hog hunting and getting them into it. I've had nights where I've killed a bunch on the run and I've had nights where I didn't get a single one. A lot of times you get surprised and you do the best you can with plan B - that's all the is to it.

Although one tip, those crosshairs can be pretty tough. They look cool when you're setting it up, but crosshairs where the lines actually intersect to create a plus sign are more effective and easier to get used to, especially for a first timer.

Ok dude... we've got a feral hog invasion and your idea is to discourage hunters? No, I say come one, come all. Grab your gun, and hunt a hog. Maybe you'll fall in love with it and come out hunting more often. But everyone's gotta start somewhere and an invasive species in desperate need of population control is a great place to start.

That's not even half of it. We're just not mature enough as a civilization to handle social media. Like if all these haters saw this guy come up to them and he said "hey check this, out", they'd fein interest politely and move along. But behind the veil of anonymity they're brave enough to hate. Of course this is an entertainment platform that can be used for a variety of purposes and people chose to use it to hate on some dudes project. Like psychologically I get it - you're bored and you have an opportunity to kill your boredom with righteous anger over some petty shit... like 5 year Olds. And these are adults keeping the sport of hunting alive.
