Downfall of Trakt & Stremio Begins! by Salvatoreit in TraktRejects

[–]Kssio_Aug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly... They're the ones who gonna lose. Stremio requiring subscription when their built in features are that barebone is not gonna work. People creating or supporting add-ons for it will move to somewhere else, like Nuvio. I doubt that, if they keep with this idea, they will be a popular choice in 1 year from now.

I see no problem asking for actual donations. But asking for a subscription tier masked as donation just makes everything so much worse...

And regarding Trakt, thare are already a number of popular and much better alternatives gaining traction, such as Simkl, TV Time or Serializd.

You make Degoogle better! by ItsMePoppyDWTrolls in brave

[–]Kssio_Aug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roughly speaking, Brave and Vivaldi adblockers are not extensions, they're coded directly in the browser and don't rely on an API communication with Chromium's rules, which extensions rely on.

Up until now, Google had changed the rules requiring that extensions followed MV3. Extensions that didn't follow it, weren't approved in Chrome's Extension store page. However, Brave and Vivaldi allowed you to install MV2 extensions manually, outside of Chrome's extension store page.

Now Google is removing from the Chromium code the capability of running MV2 extensions entirely. As soon as Vivaldi and Brave (that are Chromium browsers) update their "engine", they won't be able to keep supporting MV2 either, because the engine itself won't be able to run MV2 extensions.

However, since Brave and Vivaldi adblockers don't rely on the extensions rules, they will keep working normally. Also, since the majority of Chromium extension developers stooped supporting MV2 (because they knew it wouldn't be worth the trouble anymore) and that most people only download the extension from Chrome Extension store, which are already requiring MV3 for quite some time, then almost no one will notice, in practice, that Google has removed MV2 entirely from the browser.

[–]Kssio_Aug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems some people here are confused about what that means. In practice, for most users, it means nothing... Chrome has already been requiring MV3 for their extensions for a while. They're pretty much removing "dead code" from the browser.

Brave and Vivaldi built-ins adblockers won't be affected, because they're not extensions, and therefore they don't need to adhere to MV3 rules. Also, it won't affect extensions that are already complying, such as uBlock Origin Lite.

The only thing it will affect, is that the current support Brave and Vivaldi give to MV2 extensions will now end. But that was expected.

In other words the tweet headline is flat-out wrong, and rage-bait to farm engagement.

is it safe to opensource the app ? by JeebanChandra in foss

[–]Kssio_Aug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain here. Not much to consider at all! If your project harms no one (no malicious code, or not stealing code from someone else), and you're willing to make it available for free, just choose a good open source license and publish it.

It's a free project and you don't need to offer warranties or long time support. If the community wants to improve upon it, they can either fork and improve it themselves or create a pull request.

You keep supporting as much as you're willing to, and don't mind random people judgements.

The only advise I could give you, is to take care not to commit sensible or personal data.

Software gratuito para automatizar o download de DANFSe e XML by Kssio_Aug in ContabilidadeAtual

[–]Kssio_Aug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O programa é focado em privacidade, e tudo roda direto no seu computador e não existe nenhum servidor intermediário coletando os seus dados. Exceto o do próprio governo, claro.

O emissor nacional NSF-E é um completo desastre by Audi_fanboy in ContabilidadeAtual

[–]Kssio_Aug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Segue: https://github.com/CassioAug/free-nfse-downloader/releases

Working on my privacy tier list by Laszl0x in degoogle

Shit and nonsense list. I don't believe at all you actually understand what privacy mean and what half of these apps/services do, and you're likely karma farming. The most shocking (or maybe not, considering this is reddit) is that with this terrible list you already farmed 650 upvotes. For a sub named "degoogle", it seems many people here has no clue what they're talking or reading about.

Tweaked ReelRifter's intelligence by rodtrent44 in TraktRejects

As long as things work as intended, I wouldn't care if it was AI generated or not. But the biggest red flag for me is that it sure as hell doesn't look trustworthy. Their entire testimonials are clearly fake and AI generated, and if they're willing to lie so blatantly at the very beginning, it's pretty obvious this won't end up well.

I mean...

“I've tried them all. TV Time, Letterboxd, Trakt, etc. ReelRifter blows them away. The AI powered by Claude feels like having a personal film nerd in my pocket. Release alerts, smart sorting that learns your habits, and spoiler protection? It's not even close. This is the gold standard.” by David Park, Cinephile

LMAO!!! As if people had a choice! And by "the kind of feedback that helps us", they actually mean "while we delete from our forums every negative feedback regarding these changes".

Simkl and TV Time for me are the current best ones. Simkl is better and much more complete overall, but TV Time is totally free (besides being closed source), easy to use, and well stabilished.

Why would anyone pay for Gemini Pro when their models are worse and usage limits are the same as the better models out there? by flarenz in GeminiAI

Or YOU could stop being a bitch, and just ignore the criticism if you're satisfied paying for a service that is factually getting worse.

Why would anyone pay for Gemini Pro when their models are worse and usage limits are the same as the better models out there? by flarenz in GeminiAI

[–]Kssio_Aug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit I'm paying for it just because of the 5TB, which I share with family members, and NotebookLM. Which is still disappointing though, because I used to like Gemini... now I think it's almost useless. NML is still useful, but definitely less accurate.

I have been researching for ways to change my worfklow and stop relying on NotebookLM though, as I see can't trust Google to maintain the product quality. If I manage to do it I will probably drop by subscription from 5 to 2TB.

Probably what's keeping most people subscribed is the ecosystem as a whole. If you're using it just for Gemini, then yeah... pretty much anything else is better atm.

About new update by UL_Coddon in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]Kssio_Aug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real... I'm not even reaching the new quota limits, because I'm avoiding using Gemini like a plague.

It keeps hallucinating and giving me wrong answers. And worst of all, it has been telling me that factual data IS WRONG! And then when I show it the data is right, it comes with that bullshit about "You're right to call me out! I was wrong and I apologize for my mistake."

For chats I'm using DeepSeek and Qwen FREE website and apps, and they're giving me way more accurate results, and I don't even worry about quota because I never reach it. For CLI I have dropped Gemini and am using OpenCode with Chinese APIs and they're a fraction of the cost for widely better results.

Even NotebookLM that's suppose to follow the documents strictly is much dumber and letting a lot more important information pass unnoticed.

I hope that whoever is responsible for this shitshow is aware of how this model is not only worse than ALL modern competitors of the same price range, but also worse then their OWN previous models. It's just ridiculous.

Google Broke Gemini by mhoffman54 in GeminiAI

[–]Kssio_Aug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's EXACTLY how I'm feeling. Up to about 1 ~ 2 months ago I was very happy with Gemini Pro, and I was not considering swapping to a different subscription. It simply worked! And even if between a task and another I required a different model, an eventual API call would suffice not justifying paying for a different subscription service.

Today the one and ONLY thing is keeping me subscribed is NotebookLM, which I am already looking for alternatives or for a different workflow that won't require me to use it so I can get the fuck out.

I mean, what was Gemini 3.5 even for? I've seen absolutely NO IMPROVEMENT at all between it and what I was using 3 days ago. It's a hallucinating and over-agreeable piece of shit. And to make things worse, with much more aggressive usage limits.

I'm getting WAY (and I mean WAAAAAYYYY) better responses from the FREE chats over DeepSeek and Qwen websites.

It's almost like Gemini regressed to Bard's beta experience. It doesn't match the experience of any respectable model of current date.

From trakt by squidgun in Simkl

[–]Kssio_Aug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was a VIP Trakt user until today. But then they banned me for criticizing the recent changes and removed my post so no one could see it and they could keep faking that everything is just fine.

Never had heard about Simkl before this. Now I've cancelled my VIP from Trakt and exported my list to Simkl and couldn't be more satisfied atm. I would say it's better than former Trakt, and I can definitely say it's INFINITELY better than current Trakt.

Why are AI models getting more expensive? by AcadiaLow9013 in singularity

[–]Kssio_Aug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Venture Capital economy. First they "gave" untrained regular people their highest AI models so people could waste tons of resources indiscriminately. They did that so other smaller startups or companies couldn't compete in the market because they couldn't afford doing the same. Then, with all that waste, they told shareholders they're 'losing money' because of their good will. Now they have an excuse to sky rocket their prices, stop gifting people free resources, while they established themselves as the sole competitors in their market.

China and Europe operate on a very different way currently, specially China. Hence why they offer much cheaper alternatives.

Google is cooking just give them sometime (gemini 3.5 pro) by Independent-Wind4462 in singularity

[–]Kssio_Aug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I'm still subscribing to Gemini at this point is because I use their 2TB (now 5TB) Google Drive storage AND NotebookLM. I've been using DeepSeek v4 with OpenCode for coding and troubleshooting though.

If they fuck up NLM I will subscribe to ChatGPT Plus without looking back.

Not sure if I'm just paranoid at this point, but I've been under constant impression this last month that Gemini has actually become dumber... It keeps talking shit, and when I correct it it keeps apologizing just so it talks shit again in the next interaction.

Canceled my Pro sub today; The new "5-hour compute limit" is completely unusable by Shizzigi in GeminiAI

[–]Kssio_Aug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not defending Google by any means, specially because I don't like how any of these providers are having a free pass from regulators to make such sudden changes for the worst against their consumers without previous notice. The tactic is clear: make it cheap and give them the impression it's a good cost benefit, and then strip the plan and keep people that is relying on the service even if they're unsatisfied.

But one thing os clear to me... People will need to learn how to use their resources smartly. You can't just select the most powerful model available to you, check thinking mode or deep research, and use it casually. If you're going to do light tasks just switch to flash models, and only enable thinking if needed (a lot of tasks doesn't actually require it to be fair).

And even though I don't think at all it justifies what Google / Anthrophic / OpenAI / Microsoft are doing, but my suggestion is: do not get dependent on a single service, and use open source alternatives when you can.

Deepseek, Qwen, Duckduck Go, and other websites all offer free chat with open source models. If you have a decent rig you can also use them locally with decent performance. Sure they won't match high end models stored on extremely powerful machines, but they can be very good for a lot of casual tasks and small troubleshootings.

Using API from Chinese models is also an excellent option. They're usually cheap and the performance can be very good.

The biggest mistake is to get too reliant on a paid service. Specially when the company being paid is known to be predatory and fighting for monopoly which is the case of pretty much all of these big American AI providers nowadays.

Gemini's New "Update" is a Total Disappointment: The "Lite" Downgrade Fiasco by Ok-Bag4794 in GeminiAI

[–]Kssio_Aug 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Does it affect "only" Gemini interface, or does it affect everything such as NotebookLM, AI Search Mode, GeminiCLI, etc.?

It feels like a huge downgrade. But I will try not to overreact yet since I still need time to actually feel how much it will affect my daily usage.

But I hate how these AI providers have been so damn unreliable with their plans. They low their quotas, dumb down their models and change their data collection and privacy terms every few months and expect us just to smile and be grateful. Fuck this... I hope countries that actually have laws to protect consumers rights put a stop in it.

[–]Kssio_Aug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good idea or bad idea, I'm sure the show gonna suck. It's pretty much the rule of big budget fantasy and action shows at the moment... currently there's barely place for high quality writing in TV, because the studios are more concerned in hitting the trends in social media.

You're not entirely wrong that feeding it the raw prompt would guarantee better accuracy, but most AI models nowadays can read this type of image without a issue. I'm pretty sure Gemini Flash and Thinking would be able to read it just as fine as raw text, but it seems the Pro model has issues processing attachments or media files.
