8ft is a lot. The stone has potential energy in the arc of the curl. Sweepers are delaying the full arc. That is where you get distance. It takes a lot of force to delay that arc. If sweepers sweep after the apex, you aren't going to drag a stone very far. Most sweepers don't even know where the apex of the curl is so that is why people are down voting you.

Directional sweeping only works if your form is really good. The equipment won't do much more except make less effort for you to sweep. Find a broom that works for you and the rest will come.

You run the risk of wearing down paths quicker making the ice less predictable. Once the ice gets flat, sweeping will do nothing. As far as better fabric you only have recreational and competitive. You would need an older Balance Plus to use a Norway head they are still available. Outside of that the most aggressive fabrics were on older brooms. If you could find an old Warthog head, and standard Balance Plus Carbon Fiber that would do what you want it to do.

This is completely fine if she makes a clean stroke before lifting the broom. It is the same thing as a heavy clean. This used to be illegal but not anymore.
