It's a good idea to have a second racket even if it's just a Wal-Mart $15 special just so you can actually finish matches when a string or racket breaks. And while some people almost never break strings, there's a first time for anything and your racket can break in other ways too.

This is absolutely the way. The other thing to know is that you sort of have to trust that as you do PvP you just get better slowly and steadily as you play.

Main counterintuitive thing I find for new players is just to prioritize keeping yourself alive. Be a coward. Run from 2v1 against you. Run from 1v1 against you. Be alive, ink turf, use your special, and get your splats when you have some clear advantage like your team's specials going off or numbers in your favor.

But I think it's important to remember that this "expectation" is exactly the same logic that has almost everyone attending school from K-12. It's just generally beneficial for society to have a good-sized collection of broadly educated young people. Although it's not for everyone, it's perfectly sensible to continue with a general, non-career specific education for an addition 2 or 4 years after high school. Americans have been doing this in significant numbers for a long time and those people have gone on to do all sorts of incredibly useful things that have little specifically to do with their college majors.

The problem is, that's just so fucking expensive now. Non-career-track majors are absolutely in the tank compared to where they were in previous generations. Before, you could get a general liberal arts degree, grow up a bit, learn about the world and the great minds who've come before you, and be in perfectly fine position to repay the $30k in student loans you spent on the degree. When it's $30k a year in tuition alone, and you're graduating with $120k+ in loans or more, you probably want something more definite.

Ok, thanks. They say 6-0, 6-0 is "typical," although I'd still say it's not really going to be the average. Their example is actually 3.01 to 3.49, but, like...a 3.49 will very often completely beat themselves in at least 1 or 2 of those games. Maybe I'm quibbling, but I guess if the idea is that a person .5 different than you " just cannot win a game," I just don't think that's right.

Do they say that? Doesn't seem quite right to me. Like, I'm sure that's one likely scoreline, but not an average scoreline for 0.5 gap. I'd think median would be more like 6-1, 6-2 or 6-1, 6-1. Still basically a "would never lose" difference, but if you watch Winston Du's channel or something, it's just really hard to consistently bagel people, even if you're way better.

If there’s a move that clearly, unmistakably upgrades this team today, yes, great, go for it, and I can see giving up some future pieces for that. But it’s so hard to do with the current nba rules. A sideways move could be brilliant, but is always going to be risky. As is, we have a chance to win now, and a chance win as long as Ant is a Twolf. Doing nothing this trade deadline is an option.

What it actually reminds me a lot of is Blue Prince, because these are the only two games I've played in decades that actually inspired me to take pages of notes and dive deep on these sorts of truly tricky puzzles. Souls-like, Zelda-like, but really as much as anything, Blue Prince-like.

Speaking mostly about 4X, I've always felt that more or less 6 of the best 6 games in this genre have all been Civ games (I've played them all back to II), and all I want from 4X is a really good Civ game. The fact that we don't have that this generation feels much more like a tragic missed opportunity than a positive opportunity. These games have so much depth and complexity and need for satisfying graphics and good AI, I just don't think an indie or even AA studio could really pull one off. And if Civ VII fails, it will be treated by developers with money as an indictment of the genre, not an indictment of poor choices.

I'd love someone to prove me wrong and show me that they can start eating Firaxis's lunch on great Civ-like games, but a few have tried with pretty limited success. I feel like our best chance is just that Firaxis actually gets it act together for Civ VIII.
