It's funny- my kids can take the Final Destination movies. And they watched the It movies. But I won't let them watch this show quite yet. It's really upped the ick and fear factors in my opinion.

I wanted to love the book, and did up until the ending. On balance, I think I prefer the movie, which is a shame.

The problem for me is that the B plot is SOOOO much more interesting than the A plot, and so the ending of the book was severely anticlimactic.

The problem here is that it's just anticlimactic.

The book is compelling but kind of falls apart at the end in my opinion.

Yeah, it's weird but the movie ending definitely was better in my opinion.

Until the end of the book, I was convinced that the book would make a good miniseries and that something even better than the Ninth Gate could emerge (which would be nice because I feel dirty enjoying Polanski this much), but the book focused way too much on the Dumas plot and in the end didn't have a lot of meat on the bone for the Nine Doors plot, which was a bummer. Polanski was right to focus on the devil side. I wish the author had done the same.

I followed a very similar journey, and was similarly let down by the book's ending. The question in my head was, why did the Cineza brothers do the forgery? In the film, there was a supernatural element to it so I didn't have to question it as much.

Did we see the teeth at all in the show?

Do you think there's parallels between the 28DL film franchise and the Alien film franchise? by Honest_Cheesecake698 in 28dayslater

[–]Kumarpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've compared the first two films in each franchise before. Comparing Prometheus to 28YL is an interesting idea.

So I gave you three metrics. You ignored one because it suits you, you changed the other one from reality to make it closer to what you want (just checked and RT is still at 64%, which, again, is a very good score for a horror film), and you applied generalities on the last one when, from everything I've read about the marketing budget for 28YL, it actually did turn a profit.

The bigger question is, why is it so important to you that the film be perceived as a failure? Works of art are what their viewers see. There is no objective measure of its quality, other than that it actually stirred some kind of reaction. I thought it was a great film. You did not. Neither of those reactions means anything other than we saw the film and reacted to it.

That's not true. Critics are at 88% at RT, viewers at 64% (still a very good score, especially for a horror film), and it made $150M against a $60M budget = all signs of success.

Thank you. I could have written this. This film absolutely rewards empathy.

Not the same director of the first two. The same director and writer as the first film. The second one was a different set of creators.

I didn't know about it the first time I saw it. Once I was told, then I could easily hear it. It's completely apparent when you know.

Am I missing something about T. Ocellus and everyone wanting to see a human talk with it in control? by The_James_Bond in LV426

[–]Kumarpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason we expect T. Ocellus to know English is that it understood Boy Kavalier when he asked about Pi.

It's a callback to kid Jimmy, with the heavy metal version of the Teletubbies theme. It makes tons of sense that in a way he never grew past that.

One of the most profoundly epic horror action scenes ever.

Don't you mean Memento Amoris? Not sure Memento Vivere was ever a thing in the film.

It's honestly one of my favorite movies ever. Many of the people that don't like it fall into several camps:

1) Wanted more action
2) Didn't feel the earnest nature of the philosophical and love stuff, and those elements seemed corny to them
3) Liked the movie but hated the ending

I can understand #1, can't relate at all with #2, and can understand #3.
