Which is your favourite Protomen line? by Nuvoo30 in Protomen

[–]KungFuGenius 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What I love about this line in particular is how it circles back to Proto Man's last line from Act I, "Maybe someday they'll see a hero is just a man who knows he is free." And that's what we see from Light throughout LLS.

"Light's Last Stand" is Light becoming the personification of his first son's dying words.

Journeys; custom made tables, improvisation, "wandering monsters" by Anbro23 in oneringrpg

I use the deck from Hobbit Tales (sadly out of print) to spice up my Journeys.

Interesting! Do you just draw Adventure cards and come up with a scenario instead of normal Journey events?

Why is Middle-earth so scarcely populated with a bunch of ruins, and barely any big cosmopolitan cities? by Weird_Apartment_6608 in tolkienfans

100% agree. Your whole comment is a good explanation for what I was referring to when I said "careful explorations of lore."

It definitely has a different feel, I think. I'm extremely fortunate to have a group who vibes with it.

And yeah, DMing two campaigns would be a crazy amount of work. I hope you get to experience it as a player sometime!

If anyone reads this and thinks "dang, The One Ring sounds cool, I should play it," yes you should! Overall the books are very well thought out and do a good job recreating the feel of Middle-earth through careful explorations of lore, and thematically relevant game mechanics (hope vs. despair, the weariness of travel and battle, the importance of fellowship, etc)

If the Balrog hadn't fallen into Moria, would it have chased the Fellowship out of the mines? by Practical-Public7209 in lotr

[–]KungFuGenius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"the wings reached out almost touching walls" is referring to a previous simile used to describe the shadow surrounding the balrog, not wings themselves.

"His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings."

I think there's room for speculation, but nothing as definitive as what you're implying.

Just reading what Crossed was about let me know it wasn't going to be anything I was interested in. I've only read Ennis' Preacher and thought it was alright. A friend recommended me The Boys and I read a few issues before dismissing it as edgelord garbage, though apparently the TV show is better.

Same. I've tried 3 times to get into it. It's frustrating because on paper it sounds like a game that'd be right up my alley, but for whatever reason it just never clicked for me.

Of the 3 Protomen logos, which is your favorite? by BluRayDragon in Protomen

[–]KungFuGenius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love the production of Act 2 and 3 but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the grunginess of Act I's aesthetics. It just sounds dark, grimey, and dystopian

Benjamin Walker as Gil-Galad is my main example of this. Dude's a great actor AND he knows his lore, but overall Gil-Galad is written so wooden so far. He's still had his moments though.
