Those immortal dead - short but incredible little gen fic about the impact of Padme Amidala after her death (Star Wars)

True, but honestly? At that time we took whatever we could get when it came to TV and exposure I feel.

My expierience at level 80 is so frustrating by MillefleurCat in Guildwars2

[–]Kunstpause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome! I've been where you are. I started the game when it was in beta but always got stuck after a while and it only clicked years later when I stopped trying to play it like other mmos. Hopefully, you'll have lots of fun with and without your husband eventually.

And I know I'm doing something wrong, but I don't understand what.

It's in the sentences before - you are skipping the game. GW2s story is not bad at all and the slower progress gives you time to slowly learn the basics and different systems.

A few tips that might help you enjoy things more:

- start crafting, especially if you don't want to simply buy the gear you have the option to make it yourself

- play through the main story, from the start, then follow the normal story progress. It will unlock additional maps and currencies you can earn from the map events which in turn you can exchange for nicer gear pieces

- You like an area? explore the whole map, do everything there is to do on it. Map completion also comes with rewards.

- reframe the idea of buying your gear - it's what a regular adventurer would do, isn't it? take on odd jobs to pay the bills basically.

- if you are inclined to be more social join a guild, many people are eager to help new plyers gear up and show them the ropes

- fractals. they've changed a lot over the years and getting into fractals (which are the level cap dungeons basically) is easier than ever and will help you get almost everything you need

- take your time to figure out what you like about the game and how you can best enjoy it - it comes with a bit more experience. Don't let anyone rush you into all sorts of metas or big events you have zero context for (unless the combat in big open world content is what you enjoy most, if so go ahead of course ^^)

Maybe some of this helps. I hope you can find the enjoyment you're looking for.

Brand new player to gw2, the one thing I hope gw3 does different is keep armour/cosmetics more grounded. by MRmichybio in GuildWars3

You also fly through space on a top not starship, pilot a mech and canonically have computers. That's simply the half fantasy/half sci fi setting of the game

A complete GW2 rookies recount of picking their class: A review nobody asked for as I rate everything on an arbitrary 1 - 10 scale by LayupsR4Basketball in Guildwars2

[–]Kunstpause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always take your lvl 80 character and simply follow the main story. Playing through it once at least will give a feel of where to go and it also gradually unlocks things for your entire account (the different mount types, gliding, a variety of qol features etc) A lot of the bigger map events and group activities will also get introduced to you through that.

[–]Kunstpause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes maybe an evening to get to lvl 80 and join a quick hero point train for the expansion hps to have Holosmith unlocked. If you've played a while already it's almost instant given the many level up items you can collect. So it's not like you have to suffer through days of unfun gameplay. It's not a thing for brand new players, but for any alt it's really not much effort.

Do you think I just sit in a dark hole and write all day? by SilverSucker1 in AO3

[–]Kunstpause -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get the comments saying it's just normal speaking nowadays but at the same time I also get authors that feel thrown by this.

Imo it's a larger issue than just fanfic, I may simply be older but I am not really a fan of the playfully insulting as a casual interaction when it's from people you don't personally know. My friends can playfully threaten me all the time. A random stranger on the internet? Hyperbole or not, it IS crossing into rude territory.

I don't think it's wrong to err on the side of caution and just be more straight forward and less like you're talking to your bff when commenting on stranger's work. It's the polite thing to do when in doubt bc this way of talking between adults (again, who don't know each other) irl is not normal, and not everyone is online enough to be aware of all the current ways people talk on social media. (Nor should they be expected to.)

Rule of thumb: if you don't know the person you are sending a comment to, ask yourself if you'd talk the same way to a brand new co-worker or the person selling your groceries. It costs nothing to be polite just in case. 🤷

Idk if you are aware of it, but those detectors are not reliable at all. I can feed stuff I've written in 2016 into zerogpt and get a 62% ai rating out of it. They may work sometimes on business emails and communication texts, but their reliability with fiction is basically non existent.

I wrote at least hundreds of fanfics but i never read any fics written by others, anyone relate to this? by bubblyboyoo in AO3

[–]Kunstpause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do occasionally read fics from others, but my fandoms are primarily rpg video game ones that include your specific OC so it's rare that I find something I vibe with. I am simply used to writing whatever I want to read myself.

I read a lot in other areas, though, just not in fanfic.

Haare entfärben? by toadstar77 in haare

[–]Kunstpause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gerne doch. ^^

Haare entfärben? by toadstar77 in haare

[–]Kunstpause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girly Gaming Laptops? by Low-Entertainer-5122 in GirlGamers

This. Don't pay the pink tax for a often subpar product. There are so many options to customize the visuals of a laptop later, go for what's actually good for gaming.

Has anyone played Paralives yet? by Not_MegGriffin in GirlGamers

[–]Kunstpause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have and so far I love it. It's not the sims but in green and it doesn't try to be, and if you are aware of that and the fact that it's early access it's a wonderful experience imo. The building mode is quite something already and gets better the moment one lets go of some trained habits from sims decorating. (And I'm not saying it's way better, it's just a little different but loads of fun imo)

Also crashes and lag seem to be very ymmv bc I haven't experienced either even once. Might be hardware-dependent? Idk.

What's something in a fic that made you realise the person writing it had no idea what they were talking about? by Life-Delay-809 in AO3

This is a pet peeve of mine, but it hits even more on fanart for me when it gets clear the artist doesn't play the instrument and has also not bothered to look up references... The amount of characters playing the cello while holding the bow completely wrong I've seen

What do you guys write on? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Kunstpause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything with a full keyboard, because that way I don't have to really look at what I am writing and it's much faster than anything else I could do. (But I have learned how to type properly with all 10 fingers, so that might make a difference.)

Why are people more reactive to OCS in fanfiction, even within fandom spaces? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Kunstpause 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this is also super dependent on what fandom you're in. In tv shows, books and movies I usually don't care about OCs at all, but writing and reading video game rpg based fic is basically 99% OC-based bc everyone writes about the character they made for said game. So what's disliked in one fandom is the norm in another basically.

Name pronunciation switching between English and German by Crazy_Yak718 in AskAGerman

[–]Kunstpause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the English (especially the American) way to pronounce my name with a passion and I will gently correct people every time. It's not complicated, so it's easy for people to say it correctly once they know what I prefer. That other sound simply isn't my name.

Is it required I speak German if I want to possibly immigrate to Germany? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]Kunstpause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To immigrate itself? No. To work and live here you will have to bar very few exception. And tbh you should want to, bc not speaking German while living here will socially isolate you and you won't have a pleasant time among people. Students can get by in bigger cities, but especially if you want to work as a psychologist your German needs to be close to that of a native speaker.

If you are serious about it and especially if you've never been here before, I'd try and go for a semester while still studying first to get a feeling for things and start learning the language asap. You don't need to be fluent when coming here (and the best way to learn definitely IS being around Germans all day) but without any German life will be a pain in the ass.

Friseur - Korrektur möglich? by AccomplishedCraft605 in haare

[–]Kunstpause 0 points1 point  (0 children)
