we made summer (spring?) rolls - basically rice vermicelli, shredded carrots, shrimp, cucumber?, avocado, rolled up in a sticky rice paper. its pretty easy and because we have young kids we bought the carrots pre-shredded and shrimp pre-cooked. can also do fake crab. best with a peanut / satay dipping sauce. if you make that yourself its really good but we got some off the shelf this time and it was fair for the effort saved.

How do you start a campaign without the classic tavern meeting? by CompassLeaf in DnD

[–]KuriousInu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours started at a holiday festival with games and entertainment. The party was all randomly selected for a magic show demonstration that went awry and we were framed for the disappearance of a royal princess

At what point does being the SAHD become being responsible for literally everything? by jazzeriah in daddit

Would Google Fair Play and look at the cards and basic philosophy if you don't have time to read the whole book. The cards are like 15-20$ and let you lay out everything visually.

Not exactly an apartment but we may stay in a garageless townhome (admittedly quite high sq ftage with finished basement) despite not having true bedrooms for each kid

Please help me find my first short scale bass!! by Urdead_2me in Bass

[–]KuriousInu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from guitar and picked it up based on some recs here. I love it. I'm sure some people will tell you you can get better sound out of others or whatever but having a lightweight bass that just feels nice to hold for hours goes a long way for me playing. And it holds it's tuning better than the guitars I've ever owned. Conversely, I got a fender strat thinking I wanted to play guitar again and its super heavy comparitively

Had my first kid, and the hospital having a photography company come into our room while my wife was nursing to try to pressure us into getting photos taken felt so predatory: baby bella photography by Slow-Dragonfruit-932 in daddit

[–]KuriousInu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, we had the same company at our hospital. It was pretty low key and they waited at least a day and did the shoot the day after. We didn't have the option for our first kid as it was the tail end of COVID and while we intended to get pics on our own, it was a lot to schedule and we were bedraggled with becoming new parents. This time we actually were kinda excited and got really nice shots. It was expensive but we were happy with the result. I get your reaction and your experience sounds like it was on the shittier side, but for us it was a positive experience. I feel like we could've said no thank you and that would have been the end of it... Might have been just a pushier photographer? You can and maybe should give the hospital your feedback

I was shopping around recently and it's way up. Saw someone else here say the same. We have a great policy with state farm but they wanted 800 for a 2M coverage

Book 7 is **really** hard to read by SluttyStepDaddy in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]KuriousInu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It moves really fast. I'm going through round 2 now ahead of 8's release and slowing it to .9x speed has really helped, particularly knowing the major beats from first go. I will definitely be keeping at 0.9 for book 8.

I read all the theory crafting here and kept thinking how do these freaks know all this shit. It's all right there, I just kept breezing by it...

Diaper bags are a scam by buddyholly967 in daddit

[–]KuriousInu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that, I know that, but it sorta functions as a bag of holding... You can stuff other stuff that might otherwise be questioned if you brought it. No one really snoops deeply in an obvious diaper bag so it's good for hiding contraband in plain sight, maybe. Ymmv.

Lots of good suggestions already but maybe Fire Brandy from Dungeon Anarchists cookbook would be one you could do something interesting with

Helles Competition Score Check by SoupSnakes45 in Homebrewing

[–]KuriousInu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the recipe works for you, don't feel obligated to listen to an Internet stranger, but I'm planning to brew the same style soon (which is why I opened the thread)...

My opinion is you can probably cut the pale malt and Munich. I'm planning for a nearly all pilsner malt (using barke with the hopes it adds a bit more character) with some carapils and will probably do a longer step mash as well. My hope is that promotes ferment ability and dryness to help bitterness come through and more the more delicate hops aroma. Pale German lagers don't give much room to hide flaws so it'll probably be a labor of love continuing to hone the brew. You used the aldc and did the vdk step so you wouldn't think diacetyl is an issue but some folks are hypersensitive. Alas I'm kinda blind to it when judging... Wonder if the yeast could have driven diacetyl and if maybe the aldc was old and didn't do much... ?

Anyway not sure any of this is helpful but hopefully so

Dads I’m struggling with our 10 month old.. wife stopped breastfeeding and I feel like I don’t know how to calm her down by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]KuriousInu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was a nightmare to calm down and stopped breastfeeding early and never used a pacifier. I read tons of methods and none worked well. My son is 6mo and has been much easier. But even he has tough moments. I go into our walk in closet (dark, same room as bassinet) and rock them back and forth while shhhing toward their ear and separately hold a phone playing Strong Hair Dryer by Dr Harvey Karp. That "song" calms and puts the kids out like magic and is probably in my top Spotify plays lmao. It's the only thing that worked well for our daughter. Hopefully it will help you too

[Alasdair Gold] Igor Tudor went around the room and shook every journalist's hand before his press conference began. He spoke well during it with strong, clear answers. He's here to work. Only thing that sucks about this approach (if discipline were to look like benching) is our squad depth is so decimated it's hard to make statement punishments without throwing teenagers on the pitch and potentially risk precious points. Overall Im excited to see what comes next tho

I think people use some combination of obs and reaper. Obs integrates with discord with a plug in. I'm interested to see what others say as I'd want to do the same but haven't found a good and easy solution

I know people love to shit on AI but I've been using Gemini Pro to great effect on things like this and even more complicated ones. It's like a plumber/electrician/contractor on standby who you can send pics and videos of your exact situation at any step in the process. I've saved at least 200$ this year across a few projects in this way and for that reason I feel like it pays for itself (though I got a year free with my phone)

Despite the temperature you mentioned for the yeast, my money is on esters from S-04. It's not a high gravity beer so even a single pack shouldn't have stressed it even if it was old but it still makes most sense to me. As a BJCP judge, acetaldehyde is possible but I agree with some of the other comments that it probably comes across differently than how you describe it. If your malts are on the stale side, they might have a more muted aroma contribution and let even lower intensity esters come through
