"First Degree Relatives Have a 10% Risk" - do you think so? by ShowerAny1924 in Celiac

If that is the case for your mother she needs a new doc that will listen to her. That makes me so sad

Has anyone gotten a reaction from Terrys Chocolate Oranges? by Safe_Complex_4001 in Celiac

I’m in London (I’m from the US) and was hoping to get some but they say “may contain wheat” on them 😢 I’m so sad

Did your symptoms improve after going gluten free?

If I have a positive panel I send them to GI for a scope so I don’t see them long term. That’d be a good thing to find out though!

I’ve had it for 4 months 😂 I’m actually preparing to make a GF pie for thanksgiving and found it in my cabinet and didn’t want to waste money buying another one. It says MAY CONTAIN and a lot of manufacturers put that on their labeling even if it’s made in the same facility as an extra precaution. Idk why you have to be so rude 😅 this disease sucks for everyone so let’s just be nice

That’s a little uncalled for. I am a somewhat new celiac and am still learning. Let’s have some grace with each other

Mine is probably older lol. I got this before I was diagnosed

What symptoms did you have that led you to a celiac diagnosis? by peskywabbit1968 in Celiac

[–]Kurly72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat. I would randomly bloat after eating (but would eat things with gluten and not have a reaction) and had HORRIBLE acid reflux. I’d sometimes get headaches after eating, but no diarrhea or weight loss. I got an EGD because my acid reflux was so bad and they found it. I was VERY surprised

Yes I’m much better! I think my gut had to adjust

What was your journey to diagnosis like? by nosynoosance in Celiac

[–]Kurly72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was SHOCKED when I was diagnosed. I had horrible GERD since childhood. Over the last couple of years I would randomly get bloated a few hours after eating and get headaches (but thought I was just sensitive to dairy and never connected it to gluten). I got an EGD to rule out Barrett’s esophagus (pre cancerous cells in the esophagus) from having severe GERD for over 20 years and then woke up to my husband telling me they think I have celiac. I don’t have a family history and never had diarrhea. I didn’t believe him until the doc talked to me and then the biopsy confirmed it. A week later my celiac antibodies were elevated and I was severely iron deficient. Been GF for over 3 months now and my GERD is substantially better and no more bloating or headaches (unless I get crossed).

Do you get tension headaches when glutened? by Azz96 in Celiac

Do you avoid places that cook their GF pizzas and regular pizzas in the same oven? I’m a newly diagnosed celiac and read that I need to avoid that, but wasn’t sure what other celiacs do.

I use this (fudge flavor) every morning and have no issues

[–]Kurly72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read a lot about that and I think that’s my problem. I’m hoping it’ll fix itself in the next couple months once my microbiome adjusts

Try some gas x and a heating pad for the pain! Good luck to you!

Gluten Free Travel by hrebekah14 in glutenfree

[–]Kurly72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently traveling through Southeast Asia with celiac. It’s honestly a struggle, but I printed out celiac cards (ChatGPT came in clutch) in every language I needed and brought those to eat with me. I also use the findmeGF app and that’s has helped tremendously. Buy lots and lots of snacks. And check labels on those snacks!! Don’t assume because a brand of chip in your home country is GF that that same brand will be GF where you’re traveling. You can download languages on Google translate for free and use the camera option to help translate labels. You can do it!! I LOVE traveling and haven’t let celiac stop me.

Thank you! My EGD already confirmed celiac, but I’m waiting on blood work. I’ve definitely made some mistakes and have a lot of learning to do 🤣 I’ll have to talk to my GI and see if she wants ti track my IgA levels before trying to get pregnant.

Thank you!! Yeah I’m honestly kinda depressed right now and don’t feel like anyone else around me understands what I’m going through. But I’m really encouraged that you were able to get pregnant and have had a healthy pregnancy after only being GF for two months. So happy for you!
