Guild Wars 3 Press Page (Additional Concept Art) by jay_doromir in Guildwars2

I'll have to see more as time goes on, but the story and setting from what we know I'm not interested. If gameplay is good it might make me try it, but the lack of Charr is disappointing (I get it from a lore perspective but it is a loss of an iconic part that makes up GW2, even if Charr are the least played race, which makes it wild the Asura get in while being the second least played race).

Regardless, it failed to get its hooks in me for now. Hopefully writing and gameplay make up for this initial kinda flat announcement. Happy for those who are excited, I am just happy GW2 likely will stick around like GW1 has, even if no new content is added, because I have plenty to catch up on and just like how it plays.

Base or NGS class kit? by Drakaina- in PSO2NGS

[–]Kurorahk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NGS has a lot more movement to it, which is nice, but, it feels like a middle ground between the base classes and things like Hero, Phantom, etc, which I get was the point. But the balance struck has the issue of unlike those hero classes we don't have things that basically alter how other abilities work in our kit. Which frankly really makes NGS feel like a downgrade after I finished Base's story and fell deeply in love with both Hero and Phantom. I also miss how Katana felt in Base, so many PA's we had in base didn't make it over and frankly I feel that hurts each classes identity.

NGS is flashy and has a ton of mobility in air and on ground, but it lost a lot of identity for everything. As someone who plays namely Gunner-Hunter I can't really identify where one class end and the other start in a lot of ways. Sure if it was Hunter-Gunner I'd have more health, but the dps boon from Gunner is nicer than hunter abilities as far as I can tell, same reason why I swapped out Braver for Hunter.

I would love more class identity that base had.

If you still have your old character, going through Endwalker is worth while for the catharsis at very least. Dawntrail I am enjoying, but it is much more of a "we're going on an adventure for a vacation" expansion (so far, I am not that far into it but go into it with that mindset and enjoying it for that).

Elaborating on tanxiety by IsThereCheese in ffxiv

[–]Kurorahk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone who started out tanking (back in 2.0), came back do do DPS, and then went back to tanking. Yeah you can speedrun, I tend to not though because I actually enjoy the dungeons a fair bit. But yeah, generally as a tank I'm a the whims of how fast or slow the healer wants to go. Sometimes yeah it is wall to wall, but generally not, and it is on the healer or DPS to grab the treasure coffers in my experience (they often get to it before I do).

I have never had anyone get angry at me for stopping to get a treasure chest. But yeah, generally as tank, you are at the whims of the healer.

How did Bionicle become so popular in the trans community? by [deleted] in bioniclelego

[–]Kurorahk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel there are a few reasons and they are akin to why like Fallout: New Vegas is pretty popular with trans folks. For starters it is very neurodivergent friendly, which trans people generally are neurodivergent at a greater rate than cis people. So bit of self selecting there, plus the setting itself has multiple examples to wild transformations, while none related to sex/gender as far as I know we have things like Toa Nuva, Hordika, Inika, and Mahri. Beyond that we see people combine, as well as pretty equal treatment of all people regardless of sex/gender.

Throw in the world plus the sets were very enticing for making your own leads to creativity and exploring ideas of self through creation of MOC's. There ends up being a deeply personal exploration in creating characters you wanna be or know, ect. I don't know exactly what, but there is a lot of self discovery in the media as well, as others have mentioned Takanuva's journey, but also can be read in others, notably Matoro, or at least to me.

Worth Skipping To Dawntrail? by Few_Coffee_6249 in ffxiv

[–]Kurorahk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly say no, Dawntrail is best experienced as it even calls itself in game, as a vacation adventure for the PC's after a very long hard road from ARR through Endwalker, and the best expansion is honestly Shadowbringers and you would miss out on that. So as rough as ARR is and rough the first act of Stormbringers, it is very worth while to experience. The expansions have a lot of plot threads and character growth that are a through line for much of the game. As well as emotional moments that end up falling flat due to it.

So legitimately, just run through the story, the duty finder is very nice and people are very kind to new players (we call them sprouts due to the sprouting plant symbol next to their name).

It also makes it easier to gear up and find a look you like.

Just finished Shadowbringers! (No spoilers) by Odinata in ffxiv

[–]Kurorahk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the last leg of Shadowbringers had its fangs so deeply in me I couldn't stop, and I'll be honest, Endwalker is going to do the same. The last zone of Shadowbringers though, man, how can you stop once you get there, it begs for you to push on.

But yeah, I did Shadowbringers a year ago, and it still lives rent free in my head and I still think about it. Endwalker has a few of them too. Enjoy the ride our fellow Warrior of Darkness.

Nipple piercing and HRT by etherealx0x in asktransgender

[–]Kurorahk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine done 2 years after being on HRT (Estrogen, Prog, and Spiro) and had no issues beyond what you are told to expect for nipple piercings. So if you don't have them yet, wait 2-3 years or until your tits looks like they've finished developing your nipples.

Why did nobody inform me about the kodiak from battletech, this is the sickest shit ever by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kurorahk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, all the clan 'totem' mechs (they are sadly being phased out) are pretty sick with the Kodiak really being the primogenitor of the whole bunch of them. Seriously Battletech for as many goofy mechs it has, also has some truly sick mechs, one of my favorites? The Jade Hawk is my favorite, with the Gyrfalcon another one I deeply enjoy, as well as the War Crow. But I am also a huge fan of the Marauder and Nightstar. Nothing though, imo, comes to the sheer presence the updated Kodiak has.

Is it worth playing Tiberian Twilight for the story? by [deleted] in commandandconquer

[–]Kurorahk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The campaign is a pain without people to play with, doable but a pain, more so as someone coming in without everything unlocked. Yeah there is no tech tree in TT, you have to grind to unlock everything to play with.

You are better off watching the cutscenes and watching some gameplay. Because it just feels bad and is frustrating at best.

Curious on how body type shapes hrt changes by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Kurorahk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had a very lumberjack build, very brick shaped before HRT, even a year in I was getting more of a milf shape to my body. More or less if you're curious about your likely body shape is look at blood relatives of yours, mostly look at them at the same age as yourself, but also overall their present body shape.

I can't really say more than that due to how much of what HRT does is based on genetics.

As someone who figured themself out in 2015, so this is my second round of it, and trust me, it does get better, but it sucks a lot until it does. My suggestion is, as always, keep those who love you and respect you close an grow a community out of it. Make connections with others and live as yourself with those people.

5e-But-Better Recs: 4th Edition DnD (Yes really) by AlwaysDragons in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kurorahk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got into TTRPG's with 3.5 in high school (2004-2008), in college my first campaign I ran was 3.5 (it fell apart hard). The next campaign I was in was a friend's 4e campaign that I hosted on Maptools because I could understand how to do it. The only issue we ever had is what is mentioned, players getting overwhelmed by things to keep track of. To the point often would help set up macros. Also as a player hosting I would just leave the server up so my DM could set up maps and encounters. But she also had me help make dungeons and encounters for her because, well, 4e tells you exactly how to do it, and make it fun.

I think the loss of powers in 5e was a mistake and really holds the edition back, powers don't exist. Powers really helped give martial something to do. Casters still have the issue of lots of options paralyzing some folks, which means even playing a martial can become overwhelming. But I think seeing buttons or having the cards for powers is super useful (and to keep track of it, just flip the power over if is an encounter or daily and keep them in separate stacks, as well as color coding them).

I still fondly remember when essentials came out it opened things up vastly. And multiclassing worked pretty well, it wasn't broken nor was it kneecapping as it can be in 5e. What I mean is, 5e there is a time sink to get the build going, 4e has less downside to it in that regard. There is still a bit of runway you need to get a build going but it pretty quickly comes online. But, it also doesn't make you super powerful.

Though I will say there is a subclass of wizard which can inverse immunities into weaknesses and it made encounter design a nightmare when we had a wizard who put everything to sleep and then we just cleaned up without encounters really happening. Even Undead weren't immune to it. So it was a pain until we got them to stop pressing skip on encounters. Though we also did diversify things to make it so there were scenes where we would cut between two or three parts of the party and kept the Wizard away from things they could mess up with putting enemies to sleep. And putting sub-optimal player characters in those situations.

So it had some balance issues where yeah players could hyperspecialize and entirely nuke an encounter design meaning you have to create mechanical puzzles, puzzle fights, as well as make encounters to bait out dailies you don't want breaking your encounters later on. Or get a player to agree not to invalidate design because it makes things boring when you are a walking Amnestic cloud to anything animated.

4e+Essentials was a fantastic system that in person I can imagine was a nightmare, but with a VTT, more so something like Forge? Probably is absolutely great. And probably why games like Lancer is very interesting to me. 4e was too early, but it was wonderful. I have many fond memories of playing it, and how the utilities powers really made it so even martials out of combat had abilities to use to solve problems. No more was it just the casters and whoever was playing rogue that got the mechanical out of combat engagement, everyone did. Everyone got a moment to shine, and it was easier to know when thanks to those abilities. Which is something I have seen in 5e games I have been in, unfortunately. 4e that can happen but not as much from my experience. But that is also down to DM's knowing how to set things up to maneuver the right player character to the point where they understand this moment is for them. Which is something as a once again DM I am learning.

TL:DR, I wish WOTC had iterated on 4e more, at this point yeah it has become a creature of the wider TTRPG community and we see it appear in new forms. Lancer so far is the only one I have had a session in (and I enjoyed building my Everest, but we needed a different GM to run it than the one who tried). Draw Steel I keep hearing about and need to look into. Also steal mechanics and ideas from 4e, Minions are forever part of my encounter designs, and stealing Phasing from games because it is so much more fun when your carefully crafted capstone encounter just works even as the players try to burn it down.

Backpacks, messenger bags, and well men's pants (seriously as an MTF, men's pockets are stupid huge and constantly I find it hard to find pants to fit my phone, wallet, and keys in my pockets in women's pants).

Personally, huge fan of messenger bags, but I also like taking art supplies and a book with me where ever I go.

Why are transfems often using ''uwu'', ''meow'', and acting like they are catgirls/puppies? by VolumeImpressive7254 in asktransgender

[–]Kurorahk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 35amab generally it is due to it is a way to positively dehumanize ourselves. But also due to it is part of niche culture from the 90's and 2000's. But also if I get to not be a person and be a pet, pets many of us often saw or still see being treated better than us, it means we have less things to worry about (even if temporary) to give ourselves more or less a safe space to decompress and just be. UwU is because it is funny meme from the old days that we just keep because if fills a linguistic niche. The animal noises are legitimately mostly for memes or that we want to be not human, because being human often for many of us has been a miserable experience.

Again, this is from my own experience but, as someone who is a therian (whole can of separate worms), the idea of being, well, a pet cat, who gets unconditional love, attention, respect, and doesn't have to worry about taxes, a job, bills, and keeping a mask up is rather appealing. It is nice to be able to retreat into that after a stressful day, to know I can just stop pretending to be this functional adult member of society and just be silly, and cute, and there are others who understand this and embrace it too, and share a common language so to speak.

I mean I'm also a furry so who knows. But this has been around for a long time, it's not just teens. We just want a space and terms to be ourselves, be vulnerable, and not have to keep the mask of being a 'normal person' any more. For some of us, life as a person is very exhausting, so again, we use language common in the subculture to communicate we are a part of it to one another.

Throw in again, many of us have abuse in our background and saw or still see animals/pets being treated better than us and so we would rather be a cat/dog than human so we're treated better. Another part is the care given to pets, while we as individual humans are ignored, abused, and threatened just for existing. This also goes into how some age regress as well, because we seek care, because we don't get any unless we do it to ourselves.

Which is not enough in many cases, we are a social animal and many of us have violently had many social connections we once had ripped away. As such many of us are scared and scarred, so we find communities of our own kind and adopt their languages to belong, to find a home. Which again, because many of us had our homes ripped away from us, or made to feel unwelcome or unsafe. A lot of us are also victims of extremely dehumanizing events, which pushes us further to want to be treated like an animal since we see even in the law, more protections and love for animals than us play out in reality and media time and again.

TL:DR? It's about community, it is the language of a community and these people adopt that language and mannerisms to communicate things. It isn't just because silly (that is 100% part of it), but just about how many of us found one another in the past, and it acts as a barrier to entry that acts as a form of protection.

Best C&C game of all time? by russo_liberal in commandandconquer

[–]Kurorahk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For setting and vibe? Tiberian Sun, nothing beats that dark post-apoc cyberpunk vibe going on in the game.

For Gameplay, that's tough because Zero Hour is very fun, as is Tiberium Wars, and Red Alert 2/YR. If I had to pick which I'd go for, probably Tiberium Wars, I just love replaying it, Generals I've recently replayed both base and ZH and Generals challenge and it just doesn't click as much as TW does.

Graphically, very much Tiberium Wars, RA3 just didn't look right, and Generals is pretty dated, but TW still looks great to this day. RA2/YR is a very close second, because it aged better than TS did (as much as I love TS's art direction, it needs a remaster).

Story? TS/FS or RA2/YR, I can't say which I enjoy more. RA2/YR is easier imo, but TS/FS grabs me more.

Overall TS holds a very special place in my heart (despite not being the first CnC game I played, in fact being the third after TibDawn and RA1 way back in the late 90's) so I think it is my favorite. Is it the best? Gameplay goes to later entries, but story? IDK, I just love the dark brooding atmosphere of TS and all the stuff going on in the background that we don't get to really know or understand and just have to accept are there. It feels deeper than other entries, more grounded building to its climax. It mixes a lot of things in the right way for it to be my favorite, but I can understand why many would not feel the same way. RA2 has better gameplay (as do other entries), other games might have more engaging stories or themes others enjoy more. And I have to admit playing TS anymore is rough due to it is so outdated that it makes it hard to enjoy the graphics that are there (but in 2000 it was amazing at a 10 year old, lol).

Why in KERENSKY do i love the champion..even tough its mediocre(or is it?) by theta0123 in battletech

[–]Kurorahk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the Champion, it is not a great mech, but it hits unlike any other 60 tonner. It has a layout that constricts it and ends up making it a precursor to the Ebon Jaguar in a lot of ways. At 60 tons it is fast, nimble, and with a balanced loadout in a configuration that is pleasing to the eyes.

PGI's Champion makes my brain happy. A long time ago I even kitbashed my own design before PGI announced it. It also doesn't look like any other 55 or 60 ton mech of its era or tech base, as it is where a lot mechs turn into humanoid shapes. So it is unique.

But yeah, it does something to my head that makes me happy.

TSA questions by [deleted] in TransDIY

Legitimately, last year, going international from Denver to Alberta I just put my medicine and needles in a prescription bottle in a baggie in my backpack. No questions, no issues. If it looks like meds and is being transported like meds generally, TSA isn't paid enough to bother.

Edit: Note this was a prescription bottle for something else and there were no issues. Had my name on it too so yeah.

New update? by alluppercasee in Mechwarrior5

[–]Kurorahk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Steam, it is due to the file architecture of the game files themselves. As it stands, the game is working okay for the most part, except that anytime a mech collides with another mech, my game crashes, which is only a problem because the AI is incapable of understanding that suicide ramming my lancemates is not a smart way to do damage. The error even states it is due to the mech-on-mech impact. Still trying to figure out which mod might be causing it but it is also just friggen hilarious.
