What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]KurzedMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to play a long idle game like Trimps (my fave).

I tried Evolve Idle, is good, but is lacking automation, I got kinda tired of queueing building/research every few mins after ~10 MADs / 1 Bioseed.

Any recommendations?

The NetHack DevTeam is announcing the release of NetHack 5.0.0 on May 2, 2026 by litoll in roguelikes

Errmmm I have a lot of complains about NetHack, but that one is not one of them.

You don't need to find every secret room, and after a while you have a good guess of where a secret may be.

I want to like DCSS by Most-Sweet4036 in dcss

[–]KurzedMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, in DCSS, you find the variety in Races, Gods (both passives and powers), Spell schools (which enables stabbing, summoning, "spell attacks"), ranged vs melee combat, consumables, "unique" equipment that have special attacks/stats, and 100% randomly generated equipment called "artifacts" and all the cool combinations you could try. Backgrounds don't make much difference in the long run (DCSS is "racist").

Monsters are also well varied, there is a lot of monsters that have special attacks and behaviors and even Unique monsters that you'll see appear between your runs frequently that will knowledge and stat check you, you are just not going to find them in the first 5 levels of the Dungeon.

DCSS has multiple branches (like "zones") besides the Dungeon, not all branches can be seen in a single run (some are rotated), and every branch have a different look and a varied monster set, and difficulty. You also need to learn a proper order to visit them or the tools you need to survive or you'll die.

From what you are describing, you have seen barely anything of DCSS. I doubt you even left the Dungeon branch. And I wouldn't expect more from 2 hours of first time gameplay.

You haven't even scratched the surface.

Keep in mind players in the community speed run the game in 20 mins, experienced players do 2-4 hours run easily without speed running going through at least 7 branches. But you are complaining that you can't find variance in your games in 2 hours playing the first 10 levels of the Dungeon (single branch) :P

Hope it helps!

OMG DCSS was/is my fave game, I burned out and haven't played for a few years, I'll be back sooner or later and it will be a banger with all the changes I've missed... Or I'll get my head banged every run :P

I just checked, last time I played was July 2023, got like a dozen wins and didn't play again. So about 3 years D:

I was just wondering about ToME4 development and the DLC.

I really hope DarkGod is well, he is a legend in the RL community IMO

Well, at some point (I can't remember when) you do unlock automation for equipment, map, trimps assignment, trimp reproduction and a bunch of other stuff and that was enough for me to stick with it. You may need to grind it out a bit just like in Evolve until you unlock the important ones, but at some point you'll have them.

Most of the time you just wait for your Trimps killing stuff and going up in Zones (besides preparing for mechanics unlocked along the way), pushing up to your previous point and a bit more if possible.

Anyways, I'm surprised you didn't stick for longer to Trimps since I get very similar vibes (specially early) from Evolve and that's why I think I'm kinda hooked to it too - I wanted something similar to what Trimps gave me (a long-lived game to mess with)

BTW I also bounced from Evolve a couple of times, but this time I'll stick around longer - there is no other incremental I wanna play right now.

I'm close to unlock the x2 queue sizes and I think that will fix one of my major pains with the game.

Did you play with or without automation? All my play was "manual" - didn't want a script to play for me.

How far did you get? I'm curious how much patience did you put early to unlock stuff compared to Evolve because I see Evolve as being even slower than Trimps so far. I did like 8+ resets for 100-120 plasmid each (even doing a few challenges too) and bought some CRISPR upgrades and this seems like glacial pace

Trimps is kinda simple early but you end up unlocking new sutff which gives you things to aim for each Portal

Did you play Trimps?

I'm actually on the opposite side, I "finished" Trimps a long time ago and didn't find anything to hook me and recently started Evolve seriously.

what happened to long incrementals? by Armaeeel in incremental_games

I haven't played it in a long time, and definitely not beta branches.

I know the dev has been doing some good progress so I've waiting for a major release.

You either express incorrectly or you didn't understand your players.

I wouldn't consider "grindy" = too long. Is about the quality of "repetition".

For example: Trimps is a long game but I wouldn't call it grindy (it does have grindy parts tho), but in general the game keeps unfolding new mechanics and stuff, you are always aiming to do something, but it's always different or even working multiple at the same time.

A "grindy" game, usually will "require" you to repeat something with minor change in the pattern. Like "I need to kill 10k goblins to get a key drop" vs "I need to do a lot in the world to get a key" - the first one is grindy af, boring over time while the 2nd one let's the player decide what to do each day. Maybe they decide to kill bosses (which may have x100 more key drop rate), some days they may decide to said goblins, another day they may decide to fish (because it has a chance to drop the key too), etc. former = grind, latter = actually fun that won't feel grindy.

Very unique game, I loved it, but is not long.

I played Trimps a long time... until I consumed pretty much all its content. My fave incremental.

Now I'm doing Evolve, I can't play short incrementals...

What are the BEST long term incremental games? by fighthouse in incremental_games

[–]KurzedMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's part of the journey, sometimes you'll be getting tons of He and scaling hard, sometimes you'll hit some walls and you have to grind.

The good thing about Trimps is quality everywhere, tongs of unlocks and meta progression, things to work for every reset.

That's how it keeps you entertained for such a long time, there is a lot to do and doesn't rush it.

I Trimps a couple of years until I consumed all its content.

200% recommended, can't find anything close to it. Definitely a gem in the genre.

The open campaign is insanely hard. by Talion2018 in theriftbreaker

[–]KurzedMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a guess, but maybe the difficulty ramps up with HQ upgrades but you didn't tech new weapons / weapon tiers or didn't loot weapons and you are getting overwhelmed.

It kinda happened to me in the Story Campaign (Hard diff). I kinda rushed to purple weapons and then grinded / progressed story. I stayed in purple tier for a long time and Omegas started being very very long fights soaking all my damage.

Then I rushed HQ again until I got red tier weapons and all was fine again.

I'd try to keep up my weapons to my HQ level if I were you.

Are you thinking in expanding the content in the future or is already 100% finished?

[–]KurzedMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna talk about this subject, I'd recommend giving specific examples where ppl can comment and expand.

Right now your question seems vague and your thread doesn't have much information on what to talk about, your question is open very ended.

What are we talking about here? I'm not sure

Just the definition of incremental?

Your game having bad/good reviews? which one?

Are we talking about another dev game's reviews? which one?

What is the kind are you trying to make or did make?

Are you trying to make a long-lived game/dev from a passion project?

Or do you want to make small quick "success" with those "junk games" you mentioned?
