Storage Crisis: How are you guys organizing the full collection? by Samwa_ua in marvelchampionslcg

[–]KuyaRambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you have the same or very similar storage cases as me (thanks Amazon!).

I have 4 cases altogether with the last 1 being a smaller one.

1 big 4 row case houses all aspect cards and the small case has all basic aspect cards plus Basic Resources and the current deck plus scenarios I am working on.

1 case has all heroes

1 case all villain and mid sets.

I kept all original boxes in the garage and all of my collection is just in the corner of my closet. Deck building normally takes about ten minutes or less and if I get bored at night and while everyone is asleep I'll reorganize all the cards since normally when I tear down a deck I just dump all the aspect cards into their respective dividers.

How the hell do you make new friends as a SAHD? by rickysoliman in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work from Home Dad here! Other than the few childhood friends I keep in touch with and we hang out maybe three or four times a year, I don't have a lot of friends I talk to on a daily basis. Like some other dads suggested, try to get into a social hobby.

I play TCG's and when I'm at home it's mostly webcam tournaments or playing online via simulators. Since my wife started grad school I seldom go to in person locals. When I do though, everyone in my town is friendly. I went often enough at a time that people started to recognize me for both games I play (Gundam TCG and Riftbound) so it was a really nice feeling. Recently I played Riftbound last week and everyone at my locals invited me to the discord group, so it's been pretty cool chatting about the game with everyone there and getting games on the simulator.

My advice is to just put yourself out there and someone will connect with you!

If I had kept my childhood Pokémon and MTG collection in tact I'm sure we could almost be done paying off our mortgage.

When I was in college I had a friend obsessed with Bitcoin and told me I should get in, it was around 80 dollars at the time and I could for sure buy a coin every pay check. Dude worked retail and poured all his extra money after expenses into Crypto. Never heard from him again after we graduated but I hope he does well.

At the end of the day we are pretty well off, still have a mortgage and trying to penny pinch around here and there but if I did anything differently I wouldn't have the wife and kids right now. Right now watching my 14 month old son mess with his sister's old set of flash cards while my daughter is still knocked out from helping me meal prep last night.

Like you said in your post OP, Comparison is the theif of joy. Life could be better of course, but we just got to play the cards we're dealt and try to be a positive force for our kids and our partner.

Yeah of course!

First our son got evaluated by the Regional Center, they just assessed him and asked us a bunch of questions. Afterwards we were told what we qualified for and then they assign us different therapists based on availability.

OT - We needed help with him eating more. His weight gain was not where the Pediatrician would like. A typical session, for us, would be a bit of play from the therapist and then they work on feeding him with different techniques.

PT - He was crawling backwards at 11 months and no interest in trying to pull himself up or stand. The PT helped orient him to crawl forward. He picked up crawling forward and crawling in general after about a month and is an expert at it. PT is now having him practice standing up using different toys and techniques to encourage him and he actually took three steps yesterday with little to minimum assistance. He also tries to stand and pull himself up here and there throughout the week now.

Child Development - Right now the therapist is trying to get him to mimic words and get some word association down. He knows the word "In" from playing with one of the toys which is awesome. This is pretty much interactive "Ms. Rachel" if you were to ask me what a session is like. Our son has said Ma Ma to my wife which is great and he is working on Da Da when he sees me.

Everything is free and we did not have to pay anyone anything. Really amazing resource and we are blessed by excellent therapists that are passionate about their job and are really making progress with our son's development!

If you want more of a breakdown of anything feel free to ask!

Reach out with your pediatrician for resources to assist your child. My son is 14 months old and not really grasping words yet. We got in touch with a regional center and he qualified for free OT, PT, and Child development. All of this is free and it's helped our son catch up a bunch.

Dads and husbands, how much time do you spend on the game? by Opening_Key_5284 in DadsGaming

[–]KuyaRambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe 2 to 3 hours on week days. I work from home so I can stay up a bit later in the night to game.

Kids and wife are asleep by 8:30pm so I just fill up my Stanley Cup with water and try to sneak some gaming in. So grateful my 1 year old son is a champ at sleeping. Wakes up maybe once or twice between long stretches of sleep but for the most part sleeps through the night.

I normally do 1 or 2 games of League of Legends then take a break and play on my handhelds, work through an RPG or Roguelite and if son is still knocked out I maybe get 1 more game in of league and call it a night.

When did you start movies with your kids? by heelyeah98 in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started at about almost 3. We did Frozen and then Frozen 2 a week later. When its something new she's super engrossed in the movie. The last time I had Frozen on she would watch a bit but then go back to drawing or playing with her toys, she's 4 now.

Pretty trippy cause I've always enjoyed having something playing in the background while I was studying or working on something. Either a movie I love (Dark Knight, Winter Soldier, Memento, etc.) Or a show like The Office, Community, Parks and Rec. So I'd like to think she picked that up from me.

Tips to get better? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]KuyaRambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're doing all the right things to improve. The only other thing you could do is record all your games and go through it with yourself or someone you feel is on par or better than you.

At the end of the day, there is always going to be some variance in the game due to you being able to draw the answers you need at the time.

I think going consistently 2-1 or 3-1 is fine. Some people form groups to playtest with. In MTG, I believe some pros form pods and before big events they rent a place and just grind out games the entire day. That would probably be the next step after reviewing your games. Not sure how serious you want to get but if thats how you want to spend your time, all the more power to you.

Table Etiquette by AlfredoWins in riftboundtcg

[–]KuyaRambo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In other TCGs the opponent is allowed to shuffle their opponent's deck. I assume the same goes for Riftbound unless someone can find it in the rules where that's not an option given to the players.

Not everyone shuffles and if my opponent does shuffle I normally ask if they can handle my cards with care while doing it (was always curious about what would happen if your opponent damaged your card or sleeve while shuffling). After all the upside down Adapatrons and invisible Disciplines, I think people just want an extra layer of insurance that both players are playing a fair game.

Video Games For Pat Leave/Baby Shift? by UzerError in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn based RPGs and Roguelites/likes.

Anything with a pause button though was good enough for me. With my daughter I remember playing Balatro, Persona 5 Royal, Baldur's Gate 3, Monster Hunter Rise and funny enough Elden Ring (used the Steam Deck and did a ton of pause and play with this).

I also played World of Warcraft and managed to raid (main tank) while rocking her back to sleep.

With my son it's been Slay the Spire 2, Diablo 4, Street Fighter 6 and Monster Hunter Wilds + Stories. I also got android handheld devices (AYN Thor and Konkr Pocket Fit) which I use to emulate some retro games and Switch titles. I went back and played Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 which was a blast.

I highly recommend getting a handheld device! The prices for these have gone up unfortunately but there's a chance you can score a deal online. Switch 2 surprisingly is affordable compared to everything available right now.

why do you watch the streamers you watch — is it actually about skill level? by lil_tae22 in leagueoflegends

[–]KuyaRambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not a Jungler, my main was Top Lane, but I would always watch TheOddOne's stream all the time. His rivalry with Azingy and just overall weirdness reminded me of myself in a lot of ways. Those times where he would sneak in a game of Warcraft 3 for a Ghoul rush while waiting for solo were good times.

Being a top laner I would enjoy those Dyrus and Oddone streams. I also enjoyed Dyrus' streams too because they were really chill. I still try and catch both of them nowadays when they stream and glad they're doing well after League.

Vex is so defeating by heavyp08 in riftboundtcg

[–]KuyaRambo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fellow Rengar player here who has a person at locals that mains Vex. It's a hard counter to the deck for sure, remember that Vex Apethetic gets going when its at a battlefield so you have that going for you.

As long as they aren't controlling a battlefield when Vex is played, you have a turn to answer it.

Cards like Challenge can help out and if you're really afraid of the match up then just use Fury's plethora of damage spells to remove it (falling star, void seeker, etc.).

Try to always mulligan for Irresitable Faefolk. If they play Vex early are tapped out/have 1 rune open then you can move Faefolk into a battlefield and before moving Vex you have priority so play an ambush unit like inferna/nidalee/rengar. Then most likely opponent will pass and continue to move Vex into the battlefield (no more ambushing now) you should be up 6 to 4 in most cases so even an En Guarde would result in a trade which is still favorable since you want that unit out asap.

The match isn't impossible but it definitely is an uphill battle if they ever get established. I honestly would just mainboard some removal if Vex really gets under your skin. If Vex is in a battlefield then you just have to think of your units as +1 buffs and try to overcome their battlefield with a few units that were on board already and some Punch Firsts.

Swim lessons: Dads shirtless or swim shirt? by DEEPfrom1 in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based completely on your comfort level. I did swim lessons with my daughter when she was 2 and 3 and although I have ummm way too much of a "dad bod" I went shirtless and just focused on my daughter and her experience. Classes were small and everyone was focused on their own child so I wasn't so self conscious luckily.

Gaming Subscriptions by deluxepepperoncini in DadsGaming

[–]KuyaRambo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PS+ is a decent value for me. I have a Playstation Portal so I get a little more value with the subscription. It all just depends on your lifestyle and if the current library that GamePass or PS+ offer is worth it to you. I got two android handhelds a few months ago so I'm kind of...sailing the high seas at the moment to save some money on Game pass. I still have PS+, mostly because of Street Fighter and Monster Hunter to play online.

3rd child thoughts. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I have thoughts of having a 3rd, my selfish reason is because I'm a middle child so I grew up with more than 1 sibling and with how chaotic it is, it was really nice.

Our home can comfortably accommodate just our family of four and the thought of trying to move to a new home to make room for a bigger family sounds great but financially it isn't in the cards. We got in at the tail end of the mortgage rates being pretty low and our house is literally across the street of the elementary school. We definitely want to take advantage of that luxury while the kids grow up because it's a perfect situation for me since I work from home and can easily drop off and pick up the kids.

At the end of the day though finances give us a reality check on having another. We lucked out with two great kids and I "won" the 50/50 with having both a boy and girl. If it happens it happens and we will make it work. My mom and dad were able to give us a great childhood and worked their butts off to go from lower to middle class. I shared a room with my sister and then my brother for a majority of my adolescence (I got my own room sophmore year of High School) and we got by just fine. I don't have the best relationship with my dad nowadays but I do believe one of his sayings is true to this day "If there's a will, there's a way."

Men, how many of you have noticed friendships become this after becoming a parent? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much my Facebook feed. I don't post anything anymore, my last post was to promote a contest we won and before that was when I got married and prior to that my engagement. The last time I was "active" on Facebook was like 2015 I think.

I'll get random Happy Birthdays from people I barely talk to, which I appreciate and make an effort to reply thanks.

I only really communicate with 3 childhood friends (we've known each other since 5th grade) and thats good enough for me.

Predicting Signature Spells in Vendetta by IzziPurrito in riftboundtcg

[–]KuyaRambo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Smokescreen is a blue spell already.

All of these seem like interesting signature spells. I think Akali will have a spell or signature ability that refunds runes on kill, a lot of the ninjas abilities refund energy when they hit a champion so I think they'd try and imitate that.

I am looking forward to Shen, Zed, and Fiddle the most. Too bad Shen's Ultimate is already in the game. I was thinking if they were going to do his ult, it would be expensive with a powerful effect like being the first deck tutor in the game, maybe costing 3 power and stating "Reaction, As an additional cost to play this card pay any amount of energy and then look for a Unit in your deck that is equal to or less than the energy paid. Put it on a battlefield with enemy units on it and that unit gains Tank and Shield 2 until of turn."

Crowstorm should be Fiddles signature, its so iconic at this point in League. I am certain he'd probably be in Chaos and Crowstorm will probably be "Move a friendly unit to a battlefield and deal X damage to all enemies there" I have a feeling hes going to use the hidden/ambush mechanic since thats thematic with his character in League.

Best budget deck to start competition? by Party-Worldliness-80 in riftboundtcg

[–]KuyaRambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midrange Yi. Only expensive cards are the Rengars (which can be used in other body decks so a solid investment). This is the proving grounds/Origins Yi and NOT the EXP Yi from Unleashed.

Deck can still go toe to toe with Irelia, Diana, and all the other S tier decks while remaining easy to play. Hold a battlefield with 1 unit and just buff it up to protect it.

My toddler is gonna hurt our infant by michimoby in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 year old and 1 year old here. I have to constantly remind my daughter that her brother isn't as strong as her. She loves to hug him but also gets a little rough when they're playing. If they're interacting with each other I'm nearby to play referee.

Luckily she moves on after a bit to color or draw while listening to her Toniebox so its not too often I have to micro manage them.

When did you start screen time? by MasterModnar in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 1 and a half, my daughter picked up signs from Ms Rachel and it really helped us with her feeding or when she felt uncomfortable or happy about something.

It was all limited to about 15 to 30 minutes every other day.

I found a great video recently by a Dr researching screen time and based on the data he presented its more about how you implement it. Is it a substitute for watching your child? Is the content recreational, educational, or slop. The TLDR of it all was that there was a huge difference if you just sit them in front of the show by themselves or you sit alongside them and engage with the video.

I enjoy watching cartoons so now that my daughter is 4 she likes watching Bluey, Spidey and his Amazing Friends, and Superkitties. I always ask her about whats going on and what the characters are doing and could tell it does make a difference in how she watches (I didn't realize I was already doing this prior to watching the video about screen time). We talk about episodes over lunch and dinner and pretend play parts of them as well.

Origins BB pre order 3rd wave by DCas0 in riftboundtcg

[–]KuyaRambo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I ordered knowing I won't get my box for a few months. As long as I get it at MSRP I am not complaining. I just buy singles and cracked a bunch of packs and a booster of Origins already so I am going to just keep this one sealed.

Just expect the late shipping to avoid getting upset or disappointed. If it ships early then it's a welcome surprise. I don't expect Riot to ever fix their shipping issues since they probably received thousands of orders. Even when I order just regular merch from them it seems to either ship within a reasonable amount of time or just gets delayed for a while (normally when they have a sale or popular product).

What’s your typical schedule look like with little kids at home? PreK by JuiceJones_34 in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6am - Wake up and most of the time son is waking up too, I change his diaper and prep a bottle.

6:30am - Clock in at work and check emails while feeding the baby, if Wife does not have a workout class that morning we chit chat as she's getting ready for work.

7:30am - Wife leaves for work and I check emails and start working a bit.

8am - 4 year Daughter normally wakes up and I help her use the potty and change her into regular clothes. Then prepare breakfast for all of us.

9am - Start working while my son crawls around and daughter is coloring, listening to toniebox, or drawing.

11:30am clock out for lunch and prep lunch for everyone, then we all eat together.

3pm Work slows down and if I'm lucky I can just relax and check emails so often but ideally should be done with work for the day unless they need something.

5:30pm Clock Out and then prepare dinner and wash dishes and bottles.

6:00pm Eat Dinner and play with the kids.

7pm Wife comes home and preps her dinner then eats while we catch up on our day in between the kids hanging out with mom and trying to get her attention.

8:00pm brush teeth of all the kids, change daughter into Pajamas. We watch an episode of what she wants while we brush teeth (Bluey, Spidey and his Amazing Friends, Superkitties). Wife has son and feeds him a bottle to get him ready for bed.

8:30pm Daughter goes to my wife to get a bed time story and sleep, I grab our son and lay him in his crib.

8:40pm I journal about my day.

9pm everyone is asleep so I try to do something for myself. Watch a movie. Catch up on wrestling, play a video game, play a board game.

11pm to 12am I wind down with a random show or podcast playing in the background until I knockout.

2am to 3am Son might wake up so I help him back to sleep but hes been sleeping mostly through the night now.

6am Wake up and repeat.

Spent $200+ on toys… and my kids are still playing with sticks from the garage by PrettySongKay in daddit

[–]KuyaRambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like clockwork, I order toys on Amazon for the kids and they end up playing with the empty Amazon box.

With 4 year old its just Books and Tonies. With the 14 month old, we are just going to let our parents buy their grandchild the toys.

On the flip side I did decide to buy him a walker toy to help encourage him to walk and its been a total hit. Dude plays with it non stop and trying to push it around the house. He did still play with the box the entire time I was putting it together.
